Upgraded from an Ryzen 7 3700X & it has been a pretty dramatic improvement. Games load quicker, and overall perform much better than the 3700x. It does run a little hotter than the 3700x so make sure you pair with an AIO.

Ryzen 7 5800XT — The Last Great AM4 Warrior

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT is exactly what it claims to be — a refined, last-hurrah upgrade for the legendary AM4 platform. If you’re already rocking a B450, B550, or X570 motherboard and want a noticeable boost without switching to AM5, this chip is an easy “yes.”
Performance-wise, it’s impressive. The 8 cores and 16 threads handle gaming, streaming, and multitasking like a champ. Clock speeds hit 4.8 GHz on boost, and it stays smooth even under load. In real-world use, games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Warzone run buttery with solid frame times when paired with a good GPU. Productivity tasks — video editing, compiling, or 3D rendering — also benefit from the higher boost frequencies over the older 5800X.
Thermals are decent but not amazing. You’ll want a solid air cooler or a 240mm AIO, especially if you plan to push it. Power draw is a bit higher than the original 5800X, but that’s the tradeoff for extra performance.
What makes it shine most is value — if you already own an AM4 board, this chip breathes new life into your system without breaking the bank. However, if you’re building from scratch, you might want to look at Ryzen 7000 or Intel 14th Gen instead — they offer better futureproofing.
Pros:
✅ Excellent performance for gaming and productivity
✅ Strong single-core boost up to 4.8 GHz
✅ Great final upgrade for AM4 owners
✅ Unlocked for overclocking
Cons:
❌ Runs a bit hot under load
❌ Not ideal for new builds (AM4 is end-of-life)
❌ Limited upgrade path beyond this CPU
Verdict:
⭐ 4.5/5 – The Ryzen 7 5800XT is the ultimate AM4 send-off — powerful, reliable, and still relevant in 2025. If you’re not ready to jump to AM5 yet, this chip is your best bet.

Excellent CPU for AM4 Upgrade

This was a great upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5500. Excellent value for an AM4 upgrade. I am able to get 300-400 fps in competitive titles with my RX 6600 graphics card. The CPU itself was perfect and installation was very easy. Temps aren't too high with a single fan air cooling tower, but I haven't tried it with the stock cooler, as I've heard that it can run a bit hot with just that. My cooler was under $30 though, so it's probably worth the investment. Overall a great purchase!

Fast. No issues installing. Great value, and it runs everything, ran to 4.9 ghz out of the box. Undervolted and overclocked it and it screams. Definitely get a water cooler. It wants to run hot. Great upgrade for an aging system.

I have it paired with a 7600XT and it runs everything I throw at it at 4k. Just to name a few: Black Myth Wukong, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Hogwarts Legacy, Monster Hunter Wilds, all running 144fps on high/ultra settings and FSR capable when needed. The cooler it comes with is pretty good too! If you’re looking for a higher end CPU that can handle modern gaming, this is the best for its value right now!

I bought this cpu in order to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5500 and it was worth every penny. After updating my bios and making sure my motherboard was compatible, it was pretty straight forward to install. Also came with the stock cooler with thermal paste on it. Highly recommend this cpu to anyone on the fence about it. Easy and painless order online and pickup in store.

Have been using AMD for a while now. This was actually kind of a future proof buy, but it is worth it. With the right GPU you just drop it in and away you go. Just as a precaution make sure your cooling is on point. Keeping everything running smoothly is essential.
