The 9800X3D is hands-down the best gaming processor I’ve ever owned. With its massive 3D V-Cache, it breezes through complex Paradox grand strategy titles like Stellaris, Victoria 3, and Europa Universalis, keeping late-game simulations smooth where other CPUs start to crawl. At the same time, it excels in modern AAA games with high single-thread performance, making it a true all-around powerhouse. Paired with DDR5 and a modern AM5 board, setup was seamless, thermals are manageable with a solid cooler, and efficiency is impressive for the performance on tap. If you want a processor that doesn’t just play games but dominates them, the 9800X3D is the crown jewel of a next-gen build.

I play at 4k exclusively and usually run at highest settings. I have a 5090, so why not. Everyone always say, even the tech experts, that CPU matters a lot less at 4k, so I just sat with my 13700k and the 5090 was still doing good. Well, I always had it in the back of my mind, that I was possibly not getting the most out of my 5090, and of course, wanted the best of the best. So, I bit the bullet and just got the 9800x3d and see if there was a difference. With the 13700k and 5090, I was still getting great FPS at 4k, most times over 100fps. Now with the 9800x3d, I'm hitting my monitors 160hz refresh rate with the same settings.... I never thought the 13700k was holding back my 5090 THAT MUCH, but it sure was. Sometimes those reviews just don't do a product justice, and for some reason they always do them at 1080p. But even at 4k, a CPU upgrade STILL can make a massive difference. I'm definitely not looking back and it's great to be back with AMD.
And I'm cooling this with the Corsair Link Titan 360 and while gaming it keeps this bad boy at 50c and it goes into the 60s when downloading and installing.

What can you say that hasn't already been said? The best gaming CPU money can buy. Although the 9950x3D is a few % faster is certain games, the price to performance here is unbeatable. Coming from an i5 12th gen this was a giant upgrade in every way. With a slight under volt, I never see my temps above 66c and my power consumption is down about 15-20 watts. The only "issue" doesn't even come from the CPU itself, some motherboards may need a bios update to be compatible with 9xxx CPUs but with bios flashback it's somewhat of a non-issue. All in all, team red just can't stop winning.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an absolute beast for gaming. The 3D V-Cache makes a noticeable difference in high-FPS titles — smoother gameplay, better 1% lows, and excellent performance at 1080p and 1440p. Paired with a high-end GPU, it really shines and keeps frame rates extremely consistent.
For productivity, it handles multitasking, coding, and light-to-moderate content creation very well. It’s not the best option for heavy rendering compared to higher core-count CPUs, but as a balanced gaming + work processor, it’s outstanding.
If your priority is top-tier gaming performance with solid productivity on the side, this CPU is absolutely worth it.

I usually have gotten higher end CPUs in my computers in the past but got one of the cheapest AM5 processors when I built my current PC. Pretty major difference switching from a 8400F and now my computer is running like I had hoped when I built it.
x3D chips have great performance in games but you definitely pay more for them. Not a great value for average users or people with a tight budget, but I like gaming and really wanted a better CPU for the CPU heavy games I play and do not regret it. Haven't seen anyone happy about paying more for x3D now that I think about it but don't think I've seen anyone say they want to go back to regular CPUs after using one.
The 9700X beat the 7800x3D in the CPU games I play, while costing less, so I spent some time weighing if x3D was worth it. What made me switch to the 9800x3d was seeing the performance between 9700x and 7800x3D in the games I cared about was like +3%, so paying ~150 more for the 7800x3D wasn't really worth it. But the 9800x3d beat the 9700x by +15~18% in the games I wanted to upgrade for. Was worth the extra cost, but makes me feel like the 7800x3D is a bad value despite still being a great CPU. Depending on what you want, worth looking at the 9600X and 9700X.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an absolute beast for gaming and high-performance tasks. The 3D V-Cache makes a noticeable difference in frame rates, especially in CPU-heavy titles. It's cool, efficient, and delivers top-tier performance without breaking a sweat. Paired it with a good GPU and the results are phenomenal — ultra settings, smooth gameplay, and minimal latency. If you're building a high-end rig or upgrading, this chip is worth every cent. AMD knocked it out of the park with this one!

It's an awesome chip. Runs fast, ever so smooth, no lag or stuttering. What I think impressed me the most though is how cool this thing runs! At full settings on any game, i cant get it past 54° after long gaming sessions. I only have a 2 fan, 280 mm CPU cooler on it and no rear exhaust fan. Pretty future proof too. Very pleased with this purchase all around.

Insanely fast cpu for gaming and productivity. I installed this processor into my new gaming build and let me say, it is the fastest processor I’ve ever seen or used in any pc ever. It is a blazing fast at gaming and productivity tasks. I would highly recommend this processor to anyone looking into building a top tier gaming pc. This is the #1 gaming processor in 2025 for a reason.

The best gaming CPU in the market, you might think the upgrade in L3 cache might not be worth it but it makes a HUGE impact. For an example, Tarkov loading time was reduced from my old cpu (i5 12th gen) from 60 seconds to 15, my frames also increased my 40 from 90-100 up to 140-170. The frame bump is insane on every game i play. Only thing i would say is that you shouldnt turn on X3D mode in your BIOS, honestly it kills the overall performance.

Similarly to what you might’ve seen on YouTube this thing is a unit. Got it on sale after upgrading to 9600x. Performance in some games are very dependent on the game itself (HD2 10ish fps difference) burin CSHO my frames have increased by nearly 100 with much better 1% lows.

This chip is a beast! I upgraded from the I9-14900K and saw a noticeable FPS boost in games like Warzone and Starfield. It runs cool, stays efficient, and pairs perfectly with my RTX 5090. No issues with temps or stability—even under heavy loads.
If you’re building a high-end gaming rig or upgrading an AM5 system, this is hands down the best gaming CPU you can get right now. Worth every penny.

It's been great, I don't know what your reason might be, but if its for games; this CPU has been amazing for me, I don't notice any of the productivity issues many other people have been mentioning either. so for me this gets a 10/10. Easily see 400+ fps on games that rely on CPU more than GPU.

Arguably the best gaming CPU. Saw a performance increase that was a little unexpected considering that I game at 4K. Also compared to the Intel CPU I was previously using, it runs much cooler and therefore my CPU cooler fans run quieter. A pricier choice. So for many it might not always be the correct choice. If you primarily game with your PC this is as good as it gets.

I bought this as a upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D after my AM4 mobo died.
After initially looking at a 9900X which at the time of purchase was $10 less I went with this because of the more efficient V-cache. I am happy with this CPU, after tinkering with the settings and applying a -15 all core undervolt I so far have not broke the 75C mark while consistently at max boost clock of 5.25GHz.

This CPU is an absolute powerhouse for both gaming and productivity. Games run buttery smooth thanks to the 3D V-Cache, and multitasking feels effortless. Temps stay reasonable with proper cooling, and power efficiency is excellent compared to other high-end CPUs. If you want top-tier video gaming performance without stepping into workstation territory, this chip is the best choice.
