The best gaming CPU in the market, you might think the upgrade in L3 cache might not be worth it but it makes a HUGE impact. For an example, Tarkov loading time was reduced from my old cpu (i5 12th gen) from 60 seconds to 15, my frames also increased my 40 from 90-100 up to 140-170. The frame bump is insane on every game i play. Only thing i would say is that you shouldnt turn on X3D mode in your BIOS, honestly it kills the overall performance.

Best gaming CPU for purely gaming. 9950X3D is the best for both gaming and non-gaming, but this CPU is more than enough for most. Runs cool and can get incredible frames even if you lower the power limit to below the 120W TDP profile

This cpu works really well for gaming cause the large v-cache it has.Runs a lot cooler and more efficient than my old 10900k from Intel. My PC went from sounding like a wind turbine to something like handheld fan

This chip is a beast! I upgraded from the I9-14900K and saw a noticeable FPS boost in games like Warzone and Starfield. It runs cool, stays efficient, and pairs perfectly with my RTX 5090. No issues with temps or stability—even under heavy loads. If you’re building a high-end gaming rig or upgrading an AM5 system, this is hands down the best gaming CPU you can get right now. Worth every penny.

I bought this as a upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D after my AM4 mobo died. After initially looking at a 9900X which at the time of purchase was $10 less I went with this because of the more efficient V-cache. I am happy with this CPU, after tinkering with the settings and applying a -15 all core undervolt I so far have not broke the 75C mark while consistently at max boost clock of 5.25GHz.

Love the performance of this processor. People say it runs a little hot but w/ the right water cooler (got the Corsair Titan 360), no problem at all. Have always been an intel user previously, but finally switched over. Motherboards are cheaper than the intel counter parts. Keep it up AMD.

I play at 4k exclusively and usually run at highest settings. I have a 5090, so why not. Everyone always say, even the tech experts, that CPU matters a lot less at 4k, so I just sat with my 13700k and the 5090 was still doing good. Well, I always had it in the back of my mind, that I was possibly not getting the most out of my 5090, and of course, wanted the best of the best. So, I bit the bullet and just got the 9800x3d and see if there was a difference. With the 13700k and 5090, I was still getting great FPS at 4k, most times over 100fps. Now with the 9800x3d, I'm hitting my monitors 160hz refresh rate with the same settings.... I never thought the 13700k was holding back my 5090 THAT MUCH, but it sure was. Sometimes those reviews just don't do a product justice, and for some reason they always do them at 1080p. But even at 4k, a CPU upgrade STILL can make a massive difference. I'm definitely not looking back and it's great to be back with AMD. And I'm cooling this with the Corsair Link Titan 360 and while gaming it keeps this bad boy at 50c and it goes into the 60s when downloading and installing.

Crazy How good this is, From a 7600x this is worlds above, my previous CPU was to the point of showing temps to 90° and IDK why. With this one and a forced change of Paste, it doesn't go above 66 on heavy games with max graphics including Ray Tracing.

As of late, I’ve been gaming more and this one is highly recommended. Upgrading form Ryzen 7700x. The temps dropped from the 70s to the 50s. My fps went up in several games and has been a smooth experience.

Short Review: AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D – Gaming Performance The AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D continues AMD’s dominance in gaming CPUs with its cutting-edge 3D V-Cache technology. Designed with gamers in mind, it offers exceptional performance in CPU-bound titles like CS2, Starfield, and Baldur’s Gate 3, delivering consistently high frame rates even at 1440p and 4K when paired with a top-tier GPU. Thanks to its massive L3 cache, the 9800X3D outperforms most Intel counterparts in gaming workloads, especially in open-world and strategy games that benefit from faster memory access. It's not the best choice for heavy productivity or overclocking due to its locked-down power profile and lower base clock compared to non-3D models—but for pure gaming, it's one of the best chips available in 2025. Pros: Outstanding gaming performance Low power draw and thermals Excellent value for high-end gamers Cons: Not the absolute best CPU for workloads but still more than adequate Verdict: If you're building a high-end gaming PC, the Ryzen 9 9800X3D should be at the top of your list.

    Beast of a CPU

I usually have gotten higher end CPUs in my computers in the past but got one of the cheapest AM5 processors when I built my current PC. Pretty major difference switching from a 8400F and now my computer is running like I had hoped when I built it. x3D chips have great performance in games but you definitely pay more for them. Not a great value for average users or people with a tight budget, but I like gaming and really wanted a better CPU for the CPU heavy games I play and do not regret it. Haven't seen anyone happy about paying more for x3D now that I think about it but don't think I've seen anyone say they want to go back to regular CPUs after using one. The 9700X beat the 7800x3D in the CPU games I play, while costing less, so I spent some time weighing if x3D was worth it. What made me switch to the 9800x3d was seeing the performance between 9700x and 7800x3D in the games I cared about was like +3%, so paying ~150 more for the 7800x3D wasn't really worth it. But the 9800x3d beat the 9700x by +15~18% in the games I wanted to upgrade for. Was worth the extra cost, but makes me feel like the 7800x3D is a bad value despite still being a great CPU. Depending on what you want, worth looking at the 9600X and 9700X.

An absolutely Fantastic Chip. Runs cool and ideal for the gamer who doesn’t want to spend the extra money on the additional cores (in a perfect world we can all afford chips with more cores). If you’re a student or a professional who likes to game and do extensive projects (requiring the processing workload) then perhaps wait and get the ryzen 9 x3d chip when they come out

Switch from an i7 13700k to the 9800x3d and x870e platform and it's been painless. Didn't notice a huge difference in most games at 4k. Though, there were noticeable improvements even at native 4k... like in Baldur's Gate 3 with almost 40 consistent FPS higher in the lower city with a 4090. I prefer having the option to drop in the next AM5 x3d CPU as a simple upgrade, since this platform has longer legs than my z790 platform did. Idle temps are about 15 degrees hotter than my 13700k with an NH D15 G2. Gaming temps are similar albeit with lower wattage on the 9800x3d. As a side grade it was more expensive than it was worth since I don't notice a difference in everyday use for the most part. I did the switch because I wanted a platform with more longevity and CPU headroom since I am planning to get a 5090. If you are doing a new build though, I can say the CPU is excellent.

Thr Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a great processor, it seems to run cooler that my old Ryzen 9 3900x. The processor is easy to install, i used a AM5 plate to secure it, and more efficient thermal paste spread. I highly recommend this processor if you can find it Best Buy was the place I could find the processor in stock for retail. That is why I go to Best Buy for all my tech.

Blisteringly good performance. It's crushed everything I've thrown at it, and temps have been no problem. Under a gaming load and with an AIO, I haven't seen it break 70 degrees. If you are building a gamin PC, look no further. This is the CPU to get.

I've been patiently waiting for the 9800X3D for years after upgrading to my previous 5800X. The performance screams, the feature set like precision boost overdrive and the Ryzen Master software are great, and the 3D v-cache makes this the fastest gaming CPU you can buy right nwo.

I have been hearing great things about the Ryzen CPU for years but I was loyal to stay in the Intel space and not make the switch. The final nail was my experience with the I9 14900k , This 14900k was a hot, power hungry CPU that wasn't worth it. I made the investment and switched to the AMD 9800x3d, The first thing i noticed was how premium the material for the CPU felt compared to intel which felt cheaply made. I changed my board, installed the CPU with absolutely no issues. This thing runs on roughly 60% less power than the 14900k and temps are much better under load. My case fans just don't suddenly ramp up. This 9800x3d idles between 39 to 42 degrees based on case fans and ambient, Under load like gaming it doesn't get higher than 60 degrees unless it is a CPU intensive game where it might get close to 75 degrees. This thing is a gaming beast , I run it with a 5090 card and the frame times are consistently smoother and FPS is higher than the 14900k. It is just an overall better gaming experience than the 14900k using less than half the power and better temps. It has been a stress free experience with no system crashes, just make sure u update to the latest Motherboard Bios and AMD drivers. I highly recommend this AMD CPU for first time builders or anyone on the fence. Just wish it was under 400 dollars
