The AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT 16-core 32-thread 3.3/4.8 Ghz AM4 CPU is the best Zen 3 CPU for the am4 CPUs available at BestBuy. I have an AM4 motherboard with Windows Pro assigned to it so I don't want to upgrade to AM5 just yet, so this CPU saved me $3000-$4000 on making a budget AM5 pc. This CPU replaced my AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT, 12-Core 24 Thread Zen2 AM4 CPU, I don't remember the rest of the specs, it was a bottleneck in my PC build so this was the last piece of my upgrade.

Excellent cpu. Swapped from Intel and haven’t looked back. Genuinely one of the best cpus I’ve had. Running this with a 5060 on low gets me 300-400 fps in most standard titles / comp shooters.

This is an amazing value, got it for my brother, and makes me wanna get one myself. This is a full 16 core processor. Rivals the 5700x3d in gaming, if tuned right.

Upgrading from my Ryzen 7 3700 to this Ryzen 9 5900XT was honestly one of the biggest real-world PC upgrades I’ve experienced in a long time. I expected a noticeable improvement, but I was genuinely surprised by just how dramatic the performance jump ended up being across almost everything I do. The Ryzen 7 3700 was still a solid processor and handled gaming well enough, so I debated for a while whether upgrading on the AM4 platform would really be worth it. After using this CPU for a while now, I can confidently say it absolutely was. The difference in overall system responsiveness was immediately noticeable the moment I booted into Windows. Applications open faster, multitasking feels effortless, and heavier workloads that used to make my system feel slightly sluggish now barely register. Everything just feels smoother and more immediate. Gaming performance has been especially impressive. Frame rates are higher and much more stable, particularly in CPU-heavy games and large open-world titles. I also noticed a significant improvement in frame pacing and overall smoothness, especially when multitasking while gaming. I can now have browsers, background apps, monitoring software, and other programs running without feeling like I’m sacrificing performance. What really impressed me though is how capable this processor is for productivity tasks. The jump from 8 cores to 16 cores and 32 threads makes a huge difference when working with demanding applications. Video rendering, compression tasks, multitasking, and other heavier workloads are dramatically faster now. This CPU absolutely tears through anything I throw at it. Another huge benefit is that this upgrade allowed me to extend the life of my AM4 platform instead of completely rebuilding my system. I was able to keep my motherboard and DDR4 memory while still getting a massive performance increase. Considering how expensive full platform upgrades can become once you factor in a new motherboard, DDR5 RAM, and everything else, this felt like an incredibly smart upgrade path. Thermals have also been surprisingly manageable for such a powerful processor. Paired with a good cooler, temperatures have stayed very reasonable even under heavier loads. The processor boosts aggressively when needed but also idles down nicely when the system isn’t under stress. Installation was straightforward as well. After a BIOS update on my motherboard, the processor dropped right in and worked perfectly. No weird compatibility problems or instability issues. AMD has done a great job keeping AM4 viable for so long, and upgrades like this are exactly why people appreciate the platform. I also appreciate how well this CPU pairs with modern GPUs. I upgraded my graphics card recently as well, and this processor has no trouble keeping up. It feels like a really balanced high-end setup now without bottlenecking performance. Overall, this CPU completely exceeded my expectations. The performance increase from the Ryzen 7 3700 was enormous and instantly noticeable in both gaming and productivity. If you’re already on AM4 and looking for a major upgrade without rebuilding your entire PC, this processor is an incredible option. It honestly made my system feel brand new again.

Very fast processor focused on multitasking and pro tasks. Replaces Ryzen 9 5950X which came out in 2020 for $799 MSRP. It's still the best CPU upgrade on AM4 platform. It lacks behind x3d processors at gaming but those are getting harder to find these days.

This review is kinda negative, but it's a good processor overall. Ok, I damaged my 12 core 5900X CPU removing liquid metal compound after three years so I needed a replacement. CPU picked up right away by my X570 Asus MB. Updated the bios, setup the bios D.O.C.P memory. Now, here comes the problems. Tinkering with the processors is where the problem lies. My 5900X I tinkered the heck out of it. 1.8V O.C to all core 4735 MHZ and tempts gaming 68c or lower. This CPU, I have no head room. BSOD or failed to load at just 150 MHZ. Unstable at 100, stable at 50 MHZ O.C which is basically nothing. So, O.C the infinity fabric to 1866, and DDR ram to 3733 MHZ which netted me about the same performance if not better than the measly 50 MHZ O.C At stock, Cyberpunk was getting 151 FPS with the O.C to memory and infinity fabric. With the memory O.C, it's getting 154 FPS and stable. Now, my old 5900X optimized to the best of my ability was getting 158 FPS in Cyberpunk at 1080P, high settings. 3D mark, 56 vs 58 FPS, in Hogwartz 59 vs 62 FPS in 3K resolutions with high settings. So just a touch slower. Next issue is heat. This CPU hits 80c gaming, big difference compared to my old 5900X CPU 68c. I know it's 16 cores vs 12 cores, and AIO cooling is just 140 MM fan. Cinebench, it hits 93c, so this CPU can run out, but I think a better AIO could solve this problem. Ok, positives, it's still a fast CPU overall. Knocked off maybe 40 seconds in handbrake upscaling a blu-ray to 4K with denoise enabled. It doesn't feel sluggish, everything is just smooth using the latest WIN11 build. I game in 3K to 4K, and the difference at higher resolution is typically less than 5 FPS, even compared to the newer CPUs with X3D cache (RTX 4070S, more GPU bound here). I only use 1080P for CPU testing, but do not game at 1080P resolution. So, I'm really not losing CPU performance besides something like Harry Potter which towns are heavy on the CPU. Next positive is the price. Only $325 at the time, applied a gift card, $240 or so with taxes. Plus, I've always wanted a 16 core processor as I've had 6,8,12 cores since 2010 (Old Intel 970 6 core duo monster). Overall, CPU is 4.25 out of 5. If the O.C was better, I would have no problems giving it 5 stars. I'm the tinkering type, and this CPU offered very little. I had my old 3800X performing at Intel 9900K stock with the O.C I had on that processor along with infinity fabric O.C. My 5900X performed faster than Intel Tiger Lake CPUs with the O.C I had on it. However, this could be due to the lack of cooling with a single 140 MM AIO. Is this CPU a buy? Yes if you're coming from Ryzen 2700X, 3800X, Intel's 8 and 9th series processors. If you have a Tiger Lake core? Probably not unless you're heavy into production workloads.

Final uodate option for my AM4 X570 motherboard. Works as expected. Still working on bios tweaks for optimal permormance

This is a revision of the 5900X CPU with 4 more cores and 12 more threads. It is basically a 5950X but for cheaper. If you are still running AM4 and youre looking to upgrade, this is a top pick. AMD processors are of the highest quality and this little guy doesnt fall behind. Perfect for budget work stations as you're still getting 16 core - 32 threads and runs on DDR4 so you dont have to worry about the over-inflated DDR5 RAM prices! Make sure to pair it with a water cooler for better performance

I upgraded my PC with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and the performance difference is incredible. The processor is extremely fast, responsive, and handles everything I throw at it without any issues. Gaming performance is smooth, multitasking feels effortless, and productivity tasks like video editing and rendering are much faster now. Installation was simple on my AM4 motherboard, and the CPU runs very stable. The boost clocks are impressive, and the 16-core / 32-thread setup gives plenty of power for both gaming and heavy workloads. Temperatures are also reasonable with a good cooler. For the price, this was an amazing upgrade and definitely one of the best options for anyone staying on the AM4 platform. Highly recommended for gamers, creators, and power users.

To be honest, I have haven't installed this new ryzen9 as of yet. I've other upgrades to add as well. Though I believe this to be one of the best processers available for an am4system, going from a 3700x. This should definitely be an improvement on performance! Perhaps a newer nvidia GeForce GTX will be the top on top.
