Fantastic remake of the 70's classic previously own on DVD finally out on Blu-ray the perfect horror movie

Big fan of the original movie but this remake is okay but not nearly as good. If you can get it cheap it’s worth it but don’t buy at full price.

Decent horror remake, if price is right worth a watch.

George & Kathy Lutz and Kathy's 3 children are moving into an elegant Long Island home. What they don't know is that 6 gruesome murders were committed there the year before - Ronald DeFeo Jr., the oldest son in the family, murdered his parents, his 2 brothers & 2 sisters by shooting them with a .35 caliber in November of 1974. No sooner are the Lutzes moved into the house than they begin seeing horrible things - the ghost of Jodie DeFeo, horribly disfigured bodies - and hearing ghostly voices throughout the house. George seems to notice it the most, and it isn't long before he becomes a danger to those around him. When the local priest, called in to bless the house, comes charging out in horror after being swarmed by flies, he issues a dire warning to Kathy - 'Leave that house'. But will they be able to escape before the house and its vengeful spirits take control of George - and make him into a deadly menace?

For a one-time watch, it's entertaining and fulfills what a horror movie should. It is a ghost story with a number of oh-man-I-didn't-expect-that scary moments. I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5, but I decided to choose 3 stars instead of 4 (instead of rounding up) because strangely, nothing about the plot of the movie other than the legend behind the house stuck in my memory. This is unusual because my memory of movies is pretty great. I feel like the plot was a bit cliche and shaky. Nothing sets this movie apart from other horror movies except for the scary scenes...which it relies upon. Even the twist (I think I barely recall there being a twist) isn't that big of a deal. I think I predicted it very early on. The acting was good though. Ryan Reynolds- great. So there's a house. Years ago a family was slain in it. The ghosts of the house aren't the enemy...the house is. I recommend it, because compared to other horror movies out there now... this movie is easily 4 stars... but as a movie itself, I give it a 3.

The original too me was scarier. That may be because it scared the crud out of me when I was little. This movie has awesome effects and is one of the better remakes out there. This movie also has a lot of jump out of your seat scenes. Very good movie!!!

The film itself is great, and it scares you no matter if you're familiar with the original tale or not. Overall it was good, and even compares to the recent excorsist prequel. Worth buying at a fair price and good for some bone chilling fun.

I really enjoyed the Amityville Horror. I thought the movie was really effective. I particularly enjoyed the opening montage, which completely pulls you into the story immediately. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys horror movies

There are a lot of terrible horror movies, but this isn't one. It's creepy and entertaining.
