A True Upgrade On 4K!

When you see some of these older films released on 4K you wonder if it is worth the upgrade over the Blu-ray. This film has seen more than one release on Blu-ray: the more recent studio release with the silver, red and black slipcover, which had a new scan, and an Arrow Video Blu-ray with a newer scan. So, does this 4K HDR upgrade stand up to those? It does. It is an upgrade, but not a drastic one. The HDR here offers a picture with more depth than previous releases. There is still some grain in areas, like in the skies of the opening scenes. But there is good detail here and I liked the uptick in detail, color, and the addition of HDR.
If you own one of the two aforementioned Blu-rays, you may not want to rush out and upgrade to the 4K, as those are very good. But if you want this film in the best quality (and it is one of your favorite horror films), then this is a very nice upgrade. And if you don't want to spend the money for the limited edition, hold out for the upcoming standard release and you'll get the disc with the upgrade, sans the booklet and poster.

This movie is one of my all time favorite movies and I don't normally like horror movies. The movie keeps a good balance between gory violence and good humor so it never feels to heavy or serious. Furthermore in an era before cgi the werewolf transformation scene is excellent and still stands up today. Although I watched it frequently on cable TV I have never owned a copy. I have to say that in 4k it has never looked better. The packaging and included poster and booklet are a great addition too.

It’s not like this is a new film but the 4K transfer makes this look like it was filmed in 2022. Amazing color and depth. Black levels are spectacular. The only downfall of 4K is you can see how cheesy and hokey some things are. This is why so many filmmakers go back and “enhance” special effects or digitally scrub out film grain. They try to hide the flaws. This one is on 4K and I see no reference to any enhancements. Just a fantastic restoration of one of my favorite films.

Excellent 4K release from Arrow. The picture and sound mix are excellent and the packaging is of good quality. If you have the Arrow blu-ray, don't expect a huge leap in picture quality with the 4K, but if you're like me, and you want the best quality presentation possible, it's worth purchasing.

If you have a 4K set-up, then this is the best this film has ever looked. I would mention that "dark" scenes are truly dark and there's a lot of natural grain (and I think that's a good thing. This is a sensational package with a ton of terrific special features.

Of course the movie is one of the greats of the genre.
As for this new 4K version, while it wasn't as big of an upgrade over my previous Blu-ray (Universal) as I expected, it is still probably the best this movie has looked. Worth the price of admission.

4.5 stars My bad, I thought this was a steelbook, but alas it is not. Otherwise, it is a very good offering. The 4k and the artworks are excellent. The movie itself is a classic! I highly recommend this movie (and this particular offering).

What can be said about this movie that hasn't already been written, one of the best werewolf flicks ever created! Now even more enjoyable by an incredible 4K transfer! Would have liked to wait until Halloween to watch but that's 6 months from now.

Things to know about An American Werewolf in London:
1) Stay off the moors.
2) Stick to the road.
3) It's the greatest werewolf movie ever made.
4) It's even better in 4K.
Plus it comes with a nifty little book, some postcard prints, and a poster!

This is a great upgrade from the Blu Ray but man I feel like I have bought this film so many times. I really wish they would have not bleeded us like this and just released it in 4K last year instead of the regular Blu Ray.

Loved this movie 40 years ago when 9,and it looks even better today, in 4K! Sure the effects are dated, but the actors and story still hold up! A classic and a must have for anyone who loves a good classic horror film!
Enjoy!

I was so happy when I found out American Werewolf in London was coming in 4k. I immediately pre-ordered this movie and was not disappointed when my movie arrived. The packaging with the book was a nice touch with the sturdy slipcover

So glad I was able to add this epic piece to my collection. This movie started the special effects for me of how werewolves were to look transformed. Still great after all these years. More joy to come.

Arrow does a great job with there releases. For An American Werewolf in London, even though it is the same packaging as the non-4k release, it still is a great packaging. 4k quality is amazing!

If you haven’t seen this, watch it to see where a lot of modern horror gets it’s inspiration. If you have seen it, get it for the 4K transfer. It looks and sounds amazing!
