    One of Gibson's Finest!

Gibson really makes his mark as a director with this superb film. It looked great in the theater, and at home on your big screen Blu ray, it jumps out at you until you feel that you have gone back in time with the characters. The story is essentially about the end of the Mayan civilization told through the very personal story of a man chosen as a sacrifice. However, no one review can really describe the story as it is felt and seen by each viewer. Watching this film is a visceral experience. It is beautifully shot, well acted by native characters for authenticity, and its action sequences are vivid and tense. From the moment it begins until the end, it holds one's attention and never lets go. The film is violent and graphic, and may be too intense for some, especially small children. However, none of the violence is gratuitous. It is all part of the story and never seems over the top. This film is quite an experience for any true film fan, especially those interested in historical action movies. I highly recommend it!

    Action by Mel

I first saw this movie in the theator and it was good, I saw it later on DVD then saw it on Blu Ray and the Blu Ray version looked the best. Now on to what I thought about the movie. I'll point out now, that it is subtitiled. This doesn't bother me but I know it does bother some people. The story is about the Mayan dying civilization and a man and his family who fall victim to a raiding party. the raiding party captures people to sacrifice to make the gods happy so the People of the Sun will stop suffering. Unfortunately for Jaguars Paw, the main character, his village is going to have to be those people that bleed for the gods. To top everything off his wife and kid were left in danger and he knows he has to escape and save them. The reason I liked this movie so much is that the hero of the story is a regular guy, he doesn't bust out in a karate fight with the bad guys, he gets hurt sometimes and he doesn't always outsmart the villians. All in all this was a good movie. Some people will say some of the stuff was far fetched but so is every other movie, I was entertained and I think you would be to.

    Gripping film

I must say that prior to watching this film I heard primarily negative reviews in the tabloids but these people must have gone in with pre-meditated expectations. I simply had none and could not pull away from the screen and neither could my wife who jumped in halfway through after waking up from a nap. The photography is intensely vivid especially during the scenes depicting the shear brutality of a primitive culture and it is obvious the intention was to depict a REALISTIC interpretation of the Mayan civilization and not deliver a watered-down portrayal for the sake of queasy stomached movie goers. The gore in this movie is equal or greater than "Passion of the Christ". If on screen blood is too much for you stick to the PG-13 section. The blue-ray disc shines in bringing the breathtaking scenery and backdrops to your screen as well as delivers decent sound. I would say excellent sound but this isn't exactly a special effects whirlwind. Some cheesy CG in this film though.

Apocalypto is a great movie about Mayan civilization. The action is amazing and keeps you guessing. Definitely not a movie to let the kids watch- all characters are wearing practicaly nothing, blood is abundant, and it's in Mayan with english subtitles- but the plot is great and there are several humerous parts in the drama-laden plot. As far as I know, it is mostly historically correct. Overall a great movie with great characters and actors and an amazing plot.

I've heard that some people aren't seeing this movie because it is a product of Mel Gibson. I understand because I've never really cared for Mel Gibson's work either, but oddly enough this turned out to be one of my favorite movies. It's spoken in another language which just adds to the realism. And you really begin to cheer for the main character as he makes it through obstacle after obstacle. The scenery is also gorgeous. pretty violent though so probably nobody under 13-14. this is a must see!!!

    A Must Have

I normally do not like action-type movies, but I could not peel my eyes from this movie. From the very beginning I was drawn into the story line, the characters were strongly built and the cinematography was amazing. Gibson made me feel like I was part of the movie. I would recommend this movie to even the biggest movie snobs.

Apocalypto is period piece set in the decline of the Mayan civilization. Gibson gives us a two-part film with an interesting look into the Mayan culture and then turning the film into "The Fugitive" ,just set in the jungle. This film was criticized for several reasons, and yes it's flawed, but nevertheless it's a great cinematic achievement and it didn't deserve to be lampooned by critics. This is not a movie to miss.

This movie had a very different story line, which got my interest. The cast was chosen perfectly and the layout of the movie was proper. I really liked how they spoke a different language from english, to make the film seem more realistic. Great buy for anyone, other than kids.

One of the best dramas ever made! Made me involved in the plot. So realistically and brilliantly directed by Mel Gibson, it's a film I would watch over and over again! I thought I was part of the plot until the movie ended.

    Very Real

From the beginning, Apocalypto feels like you are watching a National Geographic special on ancient Indian cultures. The characters, makeup, and cinematography are all very authentic. The encounters are quite brutal but no more than in other movies. On the negative side, the storyline seems reproduced; it's a stereotypical movie plot and is actually unexpected in such an authentic looking movie. Worth watching at least once.

Mel Gibson did an amazing job on this film. He came extremely close to interpreting the Mayan culture and civilization. It happened to be the first movie I bought on Blu Ray and I'm very happy that I came across it. Must see if haven't already.

I really detest Mel Gibson and I thought Passion of the Christ was a pothole he'd, never emerge from again (nevermore to see the like of Braveheart). Well, Apocolypto definitely isn't Braveheart; though it is quite a good film. The subtext can get annoying after awhile, but the story kept me watching. I wouldn't suggest buying this one; just rent it.

Very well done. Mel Gibson's talent for directing almost exceeds that for acting. A great story and a great visual presentation. Definitely worth checking out.
