Stunning and absolutely marvelous! Documentary game changer.

This is a required purchase for any who love documentaries, and who love space exploration. The video quality is, well, astonishing. Right there with "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Ten Commandments." The only flaw is a slight red push. The audio is clear, well-defined, strong with unexpected power during key moments. The colors are vibrant. Shot in 1969, but it looks like a window into yesterday. There were many films with mediocre video quality on the blu-ray release. This towers over them. If released on UHD, it could re-define that platform. Recommended with esteem and confidence. 98/100

This is a review of both the film and the Blu-ray Disc. The film is easily one of the great documentaries I have seen. I remember clearly as a young boy the experience of the Apollo 11 flight; to see it with this degree of clarity is quite an experience, thanks to the high quality footage that was discovered and shown as part of this. The footage of the blastoff is worth the cost of the entire movie. The Blu-Ray disc is outstanding, as is the digital version (these days I’m getting a 4K version whether I ask for it or not. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing that, but I’m not complaining). Couple this with First Man, Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff and you have everything you’d want for a perspective on the space race of the 1960’s. Definitely worth owning.

If you are even remotely interested in astronomy and space exploration, you owe it to yourself to watch this documentary. Newly released 65 mm film footage painstakingly rendered into digital format looks bright and clear as if made just yesterday not 50 years ago. Amazing that each intricate step of this Apollo mission to the moon was successfully completed and the astronauts returned home safely will fill you with hope and pride in what we can accomplish. Watch it and be happy.

Watching this film is like witnessing the entire mission in real time. The way they boiled down a mission that ran longer than a week is amazing. The soundtrack was a huge surprise, they had thousands of hours of audio from all those engineers in mission control wearing headsets and wove it all together to create the narrative. The 65mm footage was gorgeous. What surprised me the most is all the cameras NASA used to record everything. I’ll watch this again and again.

This film is excellent. They produced it by taking original NASA films of the Apollo 11 mission and digitizing copies and them and merging the results to produce this film. The clarity and detail is amazing. There are seines I have never seen before. My son had purchased the movie and after watching his copy I had to purchase a copy for myself because I wanted to have an accurate record of the mission. I worked for Grumman Aircraft on the LEM program and saw many records of the mission. This is the best and I recommend it.

I must admit, when it first showed the astronauts up close, I thought... "whose that actor". Dah.... Maybe it's because it's the real deal with real footage of the actual events. Sure, if you have been spoiled with 4k quality you might find a few segments that might make you whine, but the majority of the movie is absolutely breathtaking. Just the blast off and space scenes alone are well worth the price of these historic events. Since my purchase, I have watch the movie at least 3 times, and will certainly watch it many more.

Are there ways you can inform an audience as to a subject in which they know the ending before they even see the movie? Try to imagine that they found many thousands of hours of 65 mm footage that was shot of many aspects of the mission. Then they used 8K and 16K sampling devices to scan these thousands of hours of footage. It is almost unbelievable how good 50 year old footage looks! There are many other reasons to see this, buy it, love it!

I have watched several of the recent movies and documentaries about Apollo 11 including the movie First Man. I have lo listened to the Audible book biography of Neil Armstrong. This movie documentary about Apollo 11 helps to add visual context to everything else to make it real. I was 14 in 1969 and I remember these events from a teenager's point of view but these movies let me see the reality of the difficulty and heroism of this effort to put men on the moon.

Watched this tonight .... Amazing!!! The story had been part of my life for half a century but the transfer from the 65mm film was stunning, and the music and the way it was put together was brilliant. This is definitely one you need to put the phone down and fire up the Big Screen and turn the surround sound way up! The launch sequence in particular had my heart pounding. Loved it!

I had seen the trailers for this and didn’t get a chance to see it in the theater. What an incredible experience watching this on a big screen with the sound turned way up. When most of us see an accounting of the moon landing it’s in the form of grainy footage that’s directly from old news stations. This documentary has HIGH DEFINITION video of the astronauts, rocket set up, take off and landing. It is absolutely stunning. It is the type of film that will be shown in schools for decades to come...AND the students will ENJOY every minute of it.

To see the lunar landing again after 50 years was truly amazing. The digitally enhanced film was even better than what I had expected and the additional footage was very interesting. I was fifteen when the landing occurred and watching the film make it feel like yesterday. Even if you were not around when the landing took place, I highly recommend this film for all who are fascinated by space. A truly great adventure.

Saw this in the theater and the quality of this Blu Ray was just as good. You have to take into account the film quality at the time is lower then today, but amazing for what they captured. Most scenes are very beautiful such as the astronauts getting ready and of course the take off. Just amazing and the sound was very good with the bass needed for left off. Good score and Very well put together.

The remastered never before seen footage from NASA is absolutely breathtaking.I was not born when this occurred and I all I saw growing up was old and grainy footage. But now with this remastered footage it actually feels real and not like fairytale. The film itself is very well put together and will have you biting your nails. Must buy for your home theater collection!

Great documentary about the Apollo space program,the moon landing and all that went on in front of the television and behind the scenes. Made from never before seen footage,took me back to being a young boy and the excitement and patriotism of that place in time.

This documentary is AWESOME! I was only 3 years old at the time of the original moon landing back in July of 69. I saw this 5 times when it was released in IMAX back earlier this year. To see what they did with the “new” found footage is nothing short of EXTRAORDINARY! To hear those Saturn V engines fire on my surround sound brings goosebumps to me every time!

You must see this film! Director Todd Douglas creates an awesome documentary from a newly discovered treasure trove of 65mm film thats never been seen! That and 11,000 hours of audio recordings. All of this goes into a cinematic power house that tells the story of the July 20, 1969 landing of the Apollo 11 on the Moon. You really must see this film!

To be fair, this is best seen in IMAX, but since that ship sailed months ago the Blu-ray version of the film is a good substitute. This has a lot of footage that you've seen before, but restored and in high-def it just looks...so much better. Good price, and if you are looking at these reviews you're likely to be someone who will watch this more than once. Recommended purchase for anyone interested in the moon missions.

This film is composed of nothing but actual footage from the Apollo 11 mission. This includes footage from ground cameras particular at the launch that are simply stunning in terms of clarity and color. Unlike other documentaries, there is no narration or voice overs. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the mission through this film.
