This new iPad Air, on the surface, isn't anything groundbreaking. It's a bit faster, a bit thinner, a bit lighter, and a bit shinier than all the tablets I've used before. But, taken altogether--and taken along with the second-gen Apple Pencil--it feels like an entirely new experience. I haven't been this struck by a new device in a while.
Over the years, I've owned three or four iPads, a few Android tablets, and a few convertible touchscreen laptops running various OSes. I've always been partial to Samsung because of the S Pen, and I've owned a couple of Galaxy Tabs and the Chromebook Pro: I love taking handwritten notes during meetings, and I like writing my first drafts by hand.
But this device, with the Pencil, is leaps and bounds better than any other tablet I've used. Writing and drawing on it feels completely intuitive and fluid. The responsiveness of the interface with the pencil is amazing--it reproduces my handwriting (chicken scratch that it is) perfectly. And more than that, the built-in handwriting recognition in the OS is frankly astounding. Either using the Scribble feature to handwrite form entries or using the Notes app's feature that lets you search your handwritten notes, everything works FAR better than I expected them to. Let me reiterate: my handwriting is atrocious. And yet, this iPad is able to decipher my hieroglyphics with a frequency that actually makes the feature really useful--I was expecting it to be little more than a gimmick, as in the past handwriting recognition apps have been completely useless for me. There've been a few times where I actually giggled out loud when the iPad recognized something I'd written that I could barely read myself.
Outside of how perfectly the iPad, iPadOS14, and Pencil have all integrated into my workflow, the design of the device itself is very nice, and the build quality is excellent. The tablet feels oddly light while still feeling very sturdy. And it's thin--even Apple's marketing images really don't do it justice. And obviously the new processor is nice, though I won't pretend to have done enough to even come close to pushing its limits. But the entire experience has been very smooth, even playing around with video editing and trying to find the most graphically-intensive games on the App Store I could. Haven't seen any lag or stuttering at all.
All that said, it's not perfect. I do wish Apple was finally putting OLEDs into more of their devices outside of the iPhone. The screen on this really is gorgeous, don't get me wrong. And the blacks aren't awful or anything. But given how great everything else is on this device, having a backlit screen--as advanced and pretty as it is--just feels weird. And I'm kind of ambivalent about the power button TouchID. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled the Home button is gone, but I think I'd kinda prefer FaceID. The TouchID on this iPad works great, and it does work very quickly, but I'm spoiled by being used to just tapping the screen on my iPhone and having it unlock itself automatically.
Anyway, those minor gripes aside, this is a great little device, it fit itself into my workflow immediately. I think the highest praise I can give it is that it's amazing how quickly it effectively disappeared: within a couple days of using it, I stopped noticing it, because everything about writing and taking notes with the iPad and the Pencil felt second nature, it felt like it had always been there. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I love my new tablet. Easy to use, fast, and beautiful. I’ve had it since release day and really enjoy reading books on it. A couple of times I caught myself trying to turn the page because of the realistic looking book text. I like how fast it whips in and out of apps seamlessly. Clear vibrant images and sound while face timing with friends. I like being able to use FaceTime and play a game on the other side of the screen. It’s just nice! Apple did a great job in the design of this one, I feel it’s worth every penny.

...No, He's not twisted and eevile. He's just plain Mac Happy. He has finally moved to the fun side that is the Mac OS and is a very content user of this most excellent iPad Air.
Excellent quality. Super speed. Enough storage for what you need, ease of use and best of all it is FUN. Oh...And superb graphics. What more does one need?'
Nothing really.

I have no complaints. I have owned this ipad for a few years now and it has held up wonderfully. I primarily use it for note taking in my classes and I have highly preferred it over using my laptop. Nice big screen, lightweight, and very user friendly.

I purchased the iPad Air 4 to replace my aging "regular" iPad 7th generation model. Although my original iPad suited my needs when purchased I soon outgrew its limited storage and subpar camera setup. This isn't a complaint but rather just shows how my needs evolved.
I originally thought about getting the 11" iPad Pro but Best Buy had this iPad Air on sale (saving me over $200 off what would've been required for the Pro purchase). Since I got this home and put into the protective Otterbox case I have been amazed at the speed and versatility of the device.
Although this 4th generation does not have the whiz/bang features like Face ID or the M1 processor, it has thus far handled everything I've thrown at it. There is only one downside to not purchasing the Pro model - this iPad Air 4th generation's fully laminated display only goes to 60 HZ refresh rate. The Pro has variable refresh rate up to 120HZ.
Otherwise I have loved using this iPad and often take it out instead of reaching for my Macbook Pro. It's a fantastic device upon which to consume media (Youtube, etc.) as well as surfing the web, working in e-mail, or even sitting quietly to read a book.
So if you're considering this iPad Air I would encourage doing so. You won't be disappointed as it will handle anything you throw at it. Plus the 5th generation iPad Air has moved to the M1 processor (not a big deal for me). This means you should be able to find this 4th generation at a discount.
Grab one today - I promise you won't be disappointed. Just make sure to place in a nice protective case. I use the Otterbox Pro and then added my own Zagg screen protector. For all but the most demanding applications, this 4th generation iPad Air is essentially a laptop replacement.

Bought this 256gb at discounted price at $549 and hope it can replace my iPad Pro 10.5 inches. Compared with the newer iPad 10th generation, this has basically same appearance but is able to work with 2nd generation Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, and cheaper price. Very good deal.

I decided it was time to upgrade the old iPad Mini 4 which I purchased back in mid 2017. The IPM4 has been a great ownership experience so there was no doubt I was going to stay with Apple. This time I decided to go with a larger screen.
Even though the iPad 5 was released in March 2022, I purchased the iPad Air 4th Gen a month later in April 2022. Great Purchase, love it, use it all the time. This was still a huge leap forward compared the old iPad Mini 4.
The iPad Air is the sweet spot, because it has the better specs that I want, such as the anti-reflective coating and laminated display, and a few others, but it doesn't have all the extra specs and features I don't want or need, which the iPad Pro includes.
After 10 years of using a Mac, I switched back to Windows, I still like having an iPad. I know Samsung has improved as far as the length of time which they support and provide updates for their tablets, but after dealing with Samsung's customer support a few years ago regarding a previous Samsung Tablet, I won't make the same mistake twice. I'm sticking with iPads.
Go with what works for you, it's as simple as that.

The iPad Air has a very crisp picture. It has no home button so swiping took a little practice. I love the speed of the iPad. The camera takes great pictures. Still learning more about all the things this iPad can do. My old iPad is 6 years old and a bit slower. Glad I bought this one.

I recently upgraded to the iPad Air, and I can confidently say that it has been an exceptional device that has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. This sleek and powerful tablet has truly transformed the way I work, learn, and entertain myself.
The design of the iPad Air is sleek, slim, and incredibly lightweight. It's a perfect balance between portability and functionality. I can comfortably hold it for extended periods or slip it into my bag without adding much weight. The integration of Touch ID into the power button is a convenient feature, offering secure and fast authentication.
The battery life of the iPad Air is impressive. I can easily go through a full day of heavy usage without worrying about running out of power. Whether I'm working on projects, streaming videos, or attending virtual meetings, the battery performance remains consistently reliable.

I've have the the last 4 or 5 generation iPads (9.7/10.2"), decided to try iPad Air, as it's a little lighter, little bigger screen and should be more powerful. Well to begin with I'm impressed by the better screen and thinner design. I can't say I can tell it's lighter, but the screen resolution/brightest/colors is improved. I did some performance comparisons from iPad G7 to iPad Air G4, and there is some improvements, could just be faster networking, which is another bonus. The Cameras are better, but I rarely use the camera for anything but face time. It does performs better in darkness. The pressure sensitivity of pencil 2 is nice but not worth $129 they get for it. it also connects to BT so I suspect batter life with Pencil 2 will decrease.
over all it's a step up from a iPad but not a big step, I'd only recommend buying when on sale.

I’ve used this for the past few years for school. It works amazing especially with the Apple Pencil. It was a bit over priced and I probably could have been fine getting the regular instead of the air but I still love it. It did start to bow after a year of having it. Luckily I had apple care and paid only $50 to replace the whole iPad.
