The new operating system is enough of a change to be noticeable and functional but still feels familiar to anyone upgrading from an older system. As far as the computer goes, it's awsome. The screen is perfectly calibrated with accurate color and precision manufacturing. I have built Windows computers, and worked repairing them, as well as fixed a few macs and although you may get more for your money on a Windows machine as far as processor speed and graphics, I still prefer MAC. On a Mac you're paying a premium for the design and reliability, and if you've been through the frustration of dealing with Windows software issues then you will truly appreciate the difference. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because a few years back iMacs could be used as monitors for other devices and Apple has removed that feature from these new 5k and 4K models which is tragic given the beatiful screens these guys have.

I ordered an iMac after my faithful 2009 Mac Pro (RIP) died. This machine is pretty great. Runs latest build of OSX and features like handoff work just as you would expect. I had no problems setting the computer up, iCloud and Dropbox synced my files over as expected. I was somewhat concerned about ordering a computer with 8gb of RAM but after using it for a month I'm impressed. This machine is fast. The only thing I have found that can slow it down is a web browser with 20-30 open tabs (which is no surprise since web browsers are notorious for hogging RAM). I ordered this specific machine because I wanted a dedicated video processor. The graphic on this machine are pretty impressive. It runs Diablo 3 very smoothly with no framing. I also play Warcraft and the machines handles raid environments very well. I run l 40-50 FPS during boss pulls. If you are considering this machine- just buy it. You won't regret it.

I must thank the Hackintosh community for making it possible to first experience OSX 3 years ago and if Apple is listening I hope they realise the service this community has done in promoting their brand while converting tons of big spending computer fanatics like myself into loyal Apple users who may never buold another pc again save for gaming. This will be my third Apple in 2 years and they were all bought at Best Buy, a macbook air, then a retina macbook pro, and now a 5k 27 inch iMac. If you can afford a 5k imac it should be your next desktop/AIO computer. If you can't afford one my advice is to start saving and you will never regret buying this computer. Whats not to like? You get Intel's latest Sklake quad core i5 or HT i7, the 1000 series chipset, and the most beautiful screen money can buy in the consumer market. Did I mention you get fushion drive? Which thus far has thoroughly impessed me a computer fanatic who has nothing but ssd's in my machines for the last 4 years. The bottom line is most of the time I forget this is not all ssd, its that fast. Only during reboots will you notice that it's not as fast as a full pcie SSD like macbook pro. You also get potent AMD R9 300 series mobile graphics included in even the entry level model. I got the mid spec model Best Buy carries with the R9 390 and i5 and have never been more satisfied with a desktop computer purchase in 25 years since I bought my first pc.

Amazing from the sleek design to performance. I couldn't ask for a better piece of equipment. I mostly do video editing on it and pics using Adobe lightroom. I was considering buying the lower model but decided on the 27in. One reason was the display size would make working on video and pics easier. The other reason was that only on the 27in IMAC you have the option to upgrade the ram yourself. I wasn't sure if I wanted the SSD so I decided to go with the Fusion drive which is good makin opening the programs that I use mostly quicker. Also boot up only takes seconds.

What can I say about the iMac that hasn't been said? If you're considering a 27" iMac then you know what you're looking at. Yes - if you look at a spec sheet between this and a comparably equipped PC - you're paying a decent premium for similar specs. However, where the Mac shines is in some of the intangibles. The 5K Retina display is just over-the-top good. It's literally candy for the eyes, no matter what you have on screen. It's also a huge boost to my productivity. First - this is a machine that's built for photo editing. With all this display real-estate you can have today's high megapixel images on screen and have a decent, if not full, portion of the image available for viewing without scrolling. Using Lightroom is a joy on this machine. In the productivity category the 5K retina also shines - it gives me so much desktop real-estate I can have multiple terminal windows open, a browser session, instant messaging, and another app or two all in a usable display size. I used to run a dual and triple monitor Windows 7 and Windows 10 setup but the 5K Retina display allows me to be as productive, if not moreso. I also love the Continuity features that allow handoff of calls to the Mac. It's one of the features I use the most. My office computer is literally a huge speakerphone that I use with my iPhone. As long as my phone is on the same Wi-Fi network, I can place and receive calls. I also love the integration with iMessage, I can send and receive text messages to both Apple and non Apple devices. The keyboard does take a little getting used to I will admit, but I have adapted quite nicely and can hammer out 80+ WPM on it even with larger hands. I still prefer the comfort of a nice Das Keyboard or my Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard, but the Apple keyboard isn't bad. I also have both the Magic Trackpad 2 and the Magic Mouse. I use them both. Sometimes I naturally reach for the mouse for some tasks, and others I use the trackpad for. The trackpad also allows me to use OSX gestures, which make switching desktops, and between programs a breeze. The only reason I scored this Mac model down one star is the Fusion drive. Apple got cheap with this generation of iMac and dropped the SSD portion to 24GB on the 1TB Fusion Drive equipped Mac. If you're a speed demon and have a lot of things going on at once, you might find that the Fusion drive slows you down. Initially I didn't - but I really wanted an all solid state drive iMac, so I returned the 1TB Fusion drive model and had to custom order one from Apple. This is a big purchase that I expect to last for a few years so I want the absolute fastest performance I can - and most of the time the limiting factor is disk speed. For someone who doesn't have a ton of programs loaded at once or isn't running Virtual Machines, or loading a lot of disk intensive apps, you might find the 1TB Fusion Drive OK. The 2TB model has 128GB of SSD combined with a 2TB spinning disk, which might be a better choice. With that being said, I'm a Mac convert after using DOS/Windows based PCs for almost 30 years now. If you'd have told me two years ago I'd be "Mac Guy", I'd have said you're nuts. However, Windows 10 didn't impress, the way all my Apple devices work together is just awesome, and the 5K Retina display is icing on the cake. If you're thinking about getting a Mac - definitely consider one with a Fusion drive. If you can afford the 2TB model, go for that. It has a slightly faster processor and more solid state drive which is what will make the Mac feel fast.

I upgraded from a 4 year old 21 inch iMac to this 27 inch Retina display. The picture is phenomenal! Large, yet crisp and and colorful. I can definitely tell the difference in program loading speed with this Fusion drive. I would recommend this option. I do a lot of video and photo editing and this machine handled it with ease. I can't think of anything more I'd want from a computer.

Previous reviews were excellent. Salesmans was knowledgeable. Only concern then was the large screen size for desk work. Space used is a corner desk, so it sits back a bit further than it would on a regular desk and the size is PERFECT. It is more than we hoped for. Graphics are exceptional and so far performance is excellent. Incredible purchase.

I was tired of upgrading my Desktop PC every 3 years due to crashes and bugs. I went to Best Buy looking at getting another All-In-One and saw this iMac on sale for $1799.00 with the upgraded graphics card. As many have noted the screen resolution is just amazing. Also, the quietest machine I have owned. And the HD is super fast. The downside is learning a new operating system. I played with the settings so the windows stay open like a Windows 10 machine. You can also open two windows side by side like in Windows 10. The "Finder" thing is just strange. The only drawback is that it comes with a lousy Photo program. And unlike Windows 7 you can't name the photos you are loading, for example "Birthday party, Sunset Feb 12 2016 001. jpg" Instead it loads it with just an image number like 00123.jpg. Very bad for organizing. So I purchased a batch renaming program for $20.00 and use that to load the photos. A bit of a hassle. It would be nice to have that option built in to name the photos when importing them. A major oversight by Apple for us photo bugs. The Photo viewing program is very bad. I am using a PhotoscapeX which is an awesome viewer. Double click to close, click to open, scroll between photos from the bottom while looking at large image. the "Photo" program has you using the space bar and arrow keys or clicking with mouse but no click to close. You have to scroll over to the top left to close it, which is too time consuming. Keyboard is tiny but functional and the magic mouse took me awhile to get used to. Basically scrolls the opposite of a Windows PC. It is a cool mouse. You can also check in the settings menu to see when you need to plug in the keyboard and mouse for charging. So far after a week of solid use the mouse is at 65% charge. So I would say two weeks between charging. Only 4 USB ports on back which is a little low compared to a PC. SD card also loads in back which is a bit awkward. And last, no built in DVD/CD drive. So I had to get a USB Super Drive for another $100. These gripes are minor compared to all the pluses. Stunning screen, fast and quite and with a track record of extreme reliability. So long Desktop PC - RIP.

Wow. I was hesitant to believe that a 5K screen would make a difference over a standard iMac. I was wrong. The difference between the two is like night and day, everything is so much clearer and crisper. Add to it the speed from the processor and this is one powerful machine . I upgraded to 32GB of RAM and this thing just cruises. I'm running multiple ram heavy applications at the same time, and this machine handles them all with ease. Very happy with this purchase.

Before this iMac I have always been a Windows user. I purchased an iPad a few years back and over time I came into an iPhone. Then I decided to get an iMac to create an ecosystem. The ecosystem I now have streaming from all my Apple products works flawlessly. This iMac with 5K retina display has truly been a great performer beyond my expectations. It's fast, it simple, it's pretty, it's Apple and I don't think I will ever go back to windows.

I replaced my 8 year old iMac with this new one. So far, everything is silky smooth, both the speed and the graphics. I'm very happy with the purchase. My one complaint is that the transfer did not go as smoothly from my old computer to this new one as I was assured it would by Best Buy's Geek Squad. When I called for support just a few hours after the purchase, they were very unenthusiastic about helping me out so I had to take it to a computer service business to have the data transfer done. I figured spending a couple of thousand on a computer just hours before would have bought me a bit of support, but I was incorrect.

This was a great purchase and I wish I would have bought it sooner. I had been waiting for a great sale to come along and kept waiting. I think the most you can save is $1-200, possibly $300 but for the amount of time I spent on my old iMac, it would have been worth not getting a sale price at all. This model is so much faster and can do so many more things. It's worth the price, any price. It's also easier to use than I expected. I'm IT challenged and this is very easy to use. I'm still exploring the additional capabilities but, for basic computer use: Internet, Documents, iTunes, etc. it's very easy to use.

Great computer, very fast. I am a big fan of the fusion drive, didn't know much about it before looking into the iMac's, would definitely recommend the extra couple hundred, much faster than my previous macbook pro with hard drive. Aesthetically beautiful like most Mac products. The 5K resolution is also amazing. Highly Recommend.

I had been a PC owner and user for at least 30 years, but as my latest PC aged beyond repair, I was persuaded by family members to invest in a new MAC, instead. I am really glad I did. The MAC is very easy to use if you exercise a little common sense and keep practicing. I have been very pleased with the quality of the pictures on the screen. The MAC is also much faster than my old PC. All in all, it was a great purchase.

I still have a 2011 iMac I took to work because it has yet to crash.(especially need reliability at work) The new iMac is for home. I didn't think my eyes could tell the difference with the 5k display compared to the older one. But pictures, video, and especially text are much more pleasing to the eye. Speed is plenty fast with the fusion drive and 8 gb memory is enough to run osX and windows at the same time. Btw no one ever mentions how good apple customer service is.

I was initially hesitant to purchase this computer because it was a bit over what I wanted to spend on a new computer and there was a newer model available as well. The difference between this one and the latest model were minimal so I decided to take the plunge and make the purchase. I'm so glad I did. It has great screen quality and hasn't taken much to get back into using a Mac (I've had a PC for a few years). It has all the programs I need and has great speed as well. I'm really into photos and I like this computer for that as well. The speakers produce quality sound and it was really easy to set up. I like that fact that it can have multiple users and those users can basically set up their own separate computer. The only downfall, which I was aware of prior to purchase from reading comments on the product, is the USB and Memory Card ports are on the back of the monitor so it's a bit awkward to reach around to use those. Despite that, it has been well worth the investment.

The new version of Apple's 27 inch iMac is very impressive with it's 5K Retina screen and solid state drive. There is no whirring sound from the old traditional moving hard drive. They retained most favorable features and added new features. The only negative is that the Photos program and El Capitan are not compatible with some photo editing programs I already had.
