I purchased this router as an upgrade from a D-Link Xtreme Gigabit (DIR655). After purchasing a 2014 iMac I wanted a router that could feed it as quickly as possible. Router set up is as easy as it gets, although you give up some of the controls other routers in this price range offer. Range covers my 2000ish sqft home extremely well. One of my other favorite things about the Airport extreme is the way it looks. It's not so much that I care, but my wife doesn't complain about how ugly it looks sitting out in the open. So far there have been no bandwidth distribution issue. Often there are 3 users streaming Netflix simultaneously. I would definitely recommend this router to those looking for an easy upgrade from a G or N router model.

I purchased the Apple AirPort Extreme (WiFi) Router 5 years ago and I have never had an issue with it. I based my experienced from the last AirPort Extreme WiFi Router and was very happy with the product. It was recommended that I purchased the AirPort Extreme WiFi Router because we had multiples Apple electronics devices ([5] iPods; [2] IPads and [3] Laptops). The AirPort Extreme price was a bit higher than the other WiFi but I'm not a computer genius and to plug and go. I'm all for making my life simple. I felt like a genius for purchasing the item. :D

I've owned different routers: LinkSys, Net Gear and Cisco. None of them compare to the Airport Extreme. Entire family have apple products and where they had weak or no signal at all, now they have an incredibly strong signal, even outside on the driveway. My Note 4 also has gotten better WiFi. Aee attached pic I would not only recommend it to a friend but to all people who are in the market for a really awesome router. You will not regret it.

Whether you're a Mac or Windows user, this Apple Extreme router is THE ONE to get. Just connect it to your modem with an ethernet cable and your Wi-Fi is set automatically and instantly. No WPS connectivity required. With a modem and Apple Extreme router in my basement (the absolutely worst place to locate these devices) the Wi-Fi signal carries to the upstairs in my 3,600 sq. ft. house -- far better than the Wi-Fi router in my Xfinity gateway modem. So I turned off Wi-Fi on the modem and let the Extreme do the work. I highly recommend this router.

After having used an older Airport Extreme Base Station (flat model) for several years, I found that it was unable to keep up with the new high speed Internet I recently switched to (200 MB). So, I got this newer model, and it works like a dream. Bear in mind, though, that in April 2018 Apple decided to discontinue its WiFi routers. So, this is the last of the line ... unless the company decides in the future to bring them back. But, I figure in the meantime, I’ll be good to go for a couple of years with this one. (In the picture you will see that I have it inside a cabinet behind the TV, yet I am able to pick up WiFi beautifully throughout my small house.)

Works perfect with my iMac, I have 1 gb service into my house via fiber. Without a router directly wired to my computer the speed is about 970 gb/s. Going through the router the speed is 900 mb/s down and 230 mb/s up. So the router does slow it down some. Wireless is giving me about 300 mb/s as that is the speed limitation of wireless technology even though Apple states that it is 1 gb/s wireless. Very pleased and have another that extends my network in the attic without having to switch rulers on my wireless devices.

Searching for a wifi router that would not fail. Used a few prior and even used the one that came with the web service provider. No good. But then Apple came to my rescue with this router that allows me to use for Apple TV, mini, iPads, I touch and game system for kids. GREAT PRODUCT. Highly recommend it. Could have used one with some external memory. Maybe next time.

Purchased to hopefully gain better performance out of my Uverse service. Been using for two months with NO speed or performance issues! Be advised: if you are a Mac owner, save money by purchasing the time capsule for backups, as it is a router too.-a very costly mistake on my behalf!

The is a good product, faster streaming and stable that the Internet does not drop off while online. Make sure the modem is also new when you upgrade to the apple extreme or else, you might have to reset both modem and wifi router to get connected back online.

I am a huge Apple fan. I have a home loaded with apple products. I am writing this review for people like myself. I bought this router to replace my current Apple time capsule. The range on this router is outstanding and I am getting speeds upwards of 57mps. I have xfinity blast internet 50mps. Setup is a piece of cake and the 6 antenna design is great for range and dual bands. I wish the 5ghz band would go a little further but when I'm connected to it the speeds are amazing. I have about 20 devices in my home that hook up to this router and they all work great. Price of course is high but I believe you get what you pay for. This router seems to not run as hot as my old apple router did. If you have a big home this will work great just make sure to put it in a central area of the home.

I purchased a new (latest gen) 2 TB Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme pair to replace my venerable but aging Apple AirPort network. The old network was asked to perform some impossible tasks -- such as providing reliable wi-fi between the two separate buildings that make up my home, as well as to offer decent speed and reliable transmission to allow Skype, FaceTime, and GoToMeeting services to work well without jitter or frame loss. Generally, the equipment was able to deliver, but often I would get strange signal fade due to the saturation of wi-fi in my neighborhood. I had a total of six AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express nodes in the network, and I'd characterize availability at about 99%. Still, getting a strong and reliable signal to some of the outlying locations was challenging through so much drywall, siding, and distance. Thus, my decision to give the latest generation of these products a shot. Long story made short: I've been using the new TimeCapsule and AirPort Extreme for a week now, and they have performed absolutely flawlessly. Based upon a quick test of the new nodes and their beam forming antennae arrays, I decided to take a chance and reduce my rather complex extended AirPort network from the previous six nodes down to a total of two latest-gen units (the two I am reviewing here) and one of the older AirPort Express units in my garage. I consistently get a transmit rate of 243 Mbps between the new nodes, and a solid 54 Mbps with the 802.11b node in the garage. Performance has been flawless, and I have had zero problems with connection drops, channel drift (as a result of spectrum congestion), or choppy performance. This, despite the location of the Time Capsule in a fully enclosed closet, and the distant (100 feet-plus) Airport Extreme in an office space surrounded on three sides by wall, siding, and filing cabinets. As I intended to replace the previous Time Capsule, I decided to setup the entire new network from scratch. It went without a hitch, and I was able to completely modernize, implement the new network (with WPA2 security and a 5 GHz alternate service) in about 30 minutes. All computer nodes immediately recognized the new nodes and, aside from having to perform complete (but now very fast) Time Machine backups from all Mac nodes in the house, the wi-fi service has performed solidly and flawlessly. Packaging for the new AirPorts was typical Apple; very well packaged in quality materials that I intend to keep so that I can reuse the packaging when it comes time to sell these units. The equipment was well wrapped in tack-back plastic wrap to protect the plastic components from scratches. The units themselves feel very substantial in the hand -- again, typical Apple quality. And I didn't need to consult any of the documentation even once during the setup. Again, typical Apple intuitive setup and configuration. In conclusion, this has been an outstanding purchase and implementation; the products did exactly what I hoped they would do, and they have performed flawlessly to date. Five stars for the product. Five stars for typical Amazon fast, hassle-free delivery via my Prime membership

I had the previous version of this and purchased this to extend my range. Man I can tell you the range is at least double from the previous Airport Extreme which makes this a great value for money. To put this in perspective I used to have a previous generation Airport Extreme with another airport (mini) to extend the range to my living room. The New airport Extreme reaches my living room without an extender which definitely can save money from buying additional devices. With the 802.11AC it is very fast on the few devices that I have that can support this speed. Finally, The Apple Airports are very simple to install and setup and extremely stable. I used to have a medium to high end Netgear network in my home which has a much more complex setup procedure. Once that was setup I found myself having to reset the network semi periodically for some reason. So although this was less expensive, I would recommend spending the extra money for a more stable and consistent Apple network. The Apple Network rarely needs to be touched and if I do want change things around I can do it right from the app on my phone. So Easy. This is a simple case of you get what you pay for. I highly recommend. It's speed is comparable to other high end routers but for the same money, you get a super simple, small and stable network that can easily be extended or changed with ease.
