This product will only connect powered items like a camera or USB hub w/ a power supply. A thumb drive or card reader will no work stand alone.

With Apple you are often stuck having to get their unique 'work arounds' like this, so grin and bear it. Annoying that they have no extra ports. Oh well...

It can’t handle newer usb camera products If looking for something that you can like a newer camera or usb this is not the item

This is a great product if you are wanting to see things on your one bigger. You will need a longer HDMI cord to be able to work on it in a relaxed area.

These are expensive but it’s the only way to use a microphone and iPhone or iPad to record music with app.

This is not for adding a usb hookup to your Ipad. Only a camera (or something with it's own power) will work. USB flash drives don't work with this!

It works for I want. I was rushed at computer check out and sale was not applied to my Best Buy rewards card.

Using this item for a drone application for connecting the controller. I was told that it should work but it came up with an error on my phone

Did not work for using flash drives with iOS 13 on iPhone. It said it needed more power. I tried several flash drives.

Useless to connect even a tiny usb flash drive or micro sc card reader to an iphone. Always says "xxx...device requires to much power". Seems Apple in all their wisdom does not make Lightening capable of powering even a 5v 50mAh flash drive or card reader. USB C on any other phone, or even usb micro on old smartphone 10yrs ago with a OTG adapter would work fine. This only works if you connected a AC wall brick powered USB hub to it. I need a fast and working way to connect the micro SD card from my cars dash cam to my phone to pull video footage in case something happens while I am on the road...something my Android phones have always been able to do. But since switching to iphone, its impossible. This will work fine with a powered hub connected to use flash drives, sd cards, usb audio DAC (some) etc....but prepare to buy more items to get it to work, and have many more cables and acces to wall power to use it.

Wish it worked for what I needed it for, it seemed to be exactly what was needed to connect a midi key board but didn’t work

Works well give me the ability to connect my phone romy camera.

My bad. I thought I could use this to transfer PDFs from a thumb drive to the iPhone but it only works for photos and videos

I came in with my iPad and a usb drive -- the two items I wished to conn3ct -- very nice man at the entrance took me to the aisle and lifted off the hook, the adapter that would do what I wished -- I showed him my iPad and the USB - will work with theset wo? and he dsaid yes.HOWEVER -- it does not do it. UNLESS you have another piece of equipment -- . When I tried to use it (on two operating systems -- both actions gave back he error message -- You do not have enough power to run this accessory. I wish to return this -- but your return options do not have a selection for this kind of problem. Please allow me to return this item. Thank you very much. Nothing wrong with Best Buy except not accurate advice. Clair

Okay converter. Thumb drives and other USBs connecting to the port are with some difficulty. Suspect there are better converters out there.

Last-minute attempt to get movies from a hard drive onto the iPad before a vacation. They didn’t have a simple iPad to USB adapter, so we tried this. Worthless. Doesn’t read almost any USBs we tried. Kept saying something about the USB requiring too much power? Bottom line - don’t get this as an attempt to pull stuff off a USB.

I got this and it didn’t work on the iPhone she had but we gave it away and it worked good for them

Tried using this to connect to my I phone with card reader. Must use to much power and dosent work. But works fine on my PC.

Like all Apple dongles. I needed it, and it was all Best Buy had in stock. Heaven forbid that Apple would use standard connectors.
