MacBook Air Rose Gold 8GB RAM

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my second MacBook Air, and my first one lasted me 10 years. This one is holding up well after 4 years, the Rose Gold color turned out nice. I doubled my RAM to 8GB (previous MacBook only had 4 GB), but I would recommend getting more RAM if possible; for instance, if you're like me and can't help but use your laptop for a lot of tasks, including installing a lot of desktop apps. It's been good for web development, but that's why I'd recommend getting maybe 16GB of RAM, otherwise, 8GB is not bad for casual use. If you are also prone to using a lot of USBs or other external devices, you'll have to buy an adapter, like a USB-C to USB adapter. There are only 2 USB-C inputs and I think a headphone jack on this MacBook Air. Otherwise, you might want to get a Pro or a different laptop entirely. I'd say this laptop is better for casual users, or someone who is maybe not planning to use their laptop for work and play all day and doesn't plan on transferring or uploading lots of files from external devices.

The perfect on the go laptop

I've been building and repairing computers for almost 30 years. I change laptops like most people change hairstyles. I finally found a 15" Windows machine that fills the space between my desktop and an ultra portable, but the ultra portables I tried left me wanting. When Apple refreshed the MacBook Air with the new scissor keyboard, I thought it might be time to sharpen my Mac skills after a few years away. I am really glad I did. This laptop is fast, light, and has battery for HOURS... around 9-11 on the average. It's shining feature is its keyboard. I know, you probably don't think much about the keyboard... I don't either. But when you use one THIS good, you notice. The touch ID works perfectly and quickly, and this unit has handled everything I've thrown at it. One other seemingly small but important detail is the way a Mac opens. you can lift the screen with one hand. On some of the other ultra portables I've tried, trying to open the screen results in lifting the whole laptop. Not with the Air. In addition to my side hustle of fixing technology, I also do quite a bit of writing. This is the perfect laptop to throw into your backpack and always have at the ready, and some of the new Mac OS features, like OneDrive integration, make it easier than ever for a user like me to have MacOS and Windows co-exist. I don't regret this purchase for one second.

This laptop is fast light and beautiful. The screen is so clear and crisp, gets really bright. The battery life is amazing and I love the touch sensor login. It's very user friendly and easy to learn how to use. Great for emails, watching videos and using social media! Even some light Photo or video editing was possible.

Writing this review in 2024 after purchasing this in 2020. It has served me well through and after college, now taking me into my Graduate program. Does everything I need. The fan can run a bit loud now and it gets when I run games like Minecraft or RuneScape. Battery life definitely deteriorates with time. Over all a reliable computer that has put up with my abuse of long hours and mistreatment (I’ve never put a case on it and dropped it several times, even on concrete. A couple of dings here and there but not one crack)

Beautiful computer. The rose gold color is so pretty. Great size. I love how lightweight it is. It is very user friendly . My friends actually had this computer and recommended it to me. One very important thing to note is that it has no USB ports. You have to buy an adapter. I suggest the Apple one.

Don't Listen To The Overheating Reviews!

Long review BUT worth the read... After looking at numerous reviews about the MBA 2020 and the MBP 2020...I decided on the MBA and I'm so glad I did!!! I had an early-release MBA 2010 which I loved (...and lasted perfectly until 2016 despite having a cracked plastic hard-shell, it was the base model too)...I decided to pick-up a MBP 2015 which was great at the time due to me doing a lot of video editing because my old MBA could do it BUT it took forever. My MBP 2015 still works fine BUT occasionally experience glitches and I realized it would be smart to get another Macbook especially since I'm working from home everyday during these covid-19 times. I no longer do video editing and wanted something that is great for everyday multi-tasking like web surfing, listening to music, watching YouTube/Netflix AND most of all doing office work. I was sold on getting the new MBA especially since I love it's sleek design, wanted the magic keyboard and I like the fact it's slanted at the keyboard (...I do a lot of typing and carpal tunnel is real). But I was turned-off by the "overheating" reviews, I'm happy I took a leap of faith and purchased the MBA 2020. I am able to multitask just fine WITHOUT this laptop overheating and I've had yet to hear any fan noise . Trust me I know all about loud MBA fan noise and the machine getting SUPER hot...I experienced it with my 2010 MBA and it would get so hot that I couldn't sit it on my lap. I know this MBA only has one fan and doesn't have a "cooling system" like the MBP...BUT people need to realize the heat is not getting trapped in the MacBook, it is being pushed out the back of the MBA. That's why the back of the MBA is warm at times (...not intensely hot) depending on how much you're pushing the laptop. The rest of the MBA remains cool and it's fine to use on your lap or in the bed while you're relaxing. This MBA is leaps and bounds away from the heat and fan noise I experienced in the past with the 2010 MBA...which the "overheating" reviews I saw made me think the new MBA would be similar to that experience AND it's definitely not. I think the bad "overheating" reviews are coming from people trying to do MBP activities with this MBA...it isn't meant for continuous intense video editing or as a device for serious gamers. It works perfectly for everyday multitasking (emails, web-surfing, live streaming movies/shows, watching Netflix, using Apple apps like FaceTime, light video editing like importing vids from your smartphone and using iMovie)...and most important I can use my job's remote client application with no issues like I experienced on the MBA 2020. Also Apple products have safe-guards to prevent technical overheating...if the product is getting close to dangerous temperatures, it will literally shutdown to prevent damage. I know people have slammed the camera but that's not a big deal or a deal-breaker for me...I have used the video camera a few times for work without the laptop getting crazy hot but other than that I always use my iPhone or iPad Pro for those functions so I don't care. I do love the speakers on this laptop because I love listening to music while working AND the sound is wonderful, much better than my 2015 MBP. I purchased the gold, i5, 8GB memory and 516GB storage model...this laptop is super fast even with multiple Safari tabs open, while using my job's remote application on Chrome and listening to Apple Music at the same darn time. Also I can't say this enough but if you won't be using this laptop for continuous intense gaming or professional editing...save some money AND purchase this laptop with confidence. You definitely won't be disappointed!!!

This apple laptop overall is amazing. It performs almost all the same functions as the other models. It is light weight, I initially bought it for graduate school and it was able to perform all the tasks I needed it to. It even performed well with the school technology I had to download. After buying this I will definitely buy another apple laptop. I have used many different models and this one has been my favorite. It is durable and light weight half of the time I didn’t even realize that it was in my back pack. It holds its battery life more than prior brands I have used.

This is a great macbook air! Very light and works pretty well for light to medium use. I am typically running email, Excel or Word, and 10-15 web pages at any given time and haven't experienced any sluggishness. I only start to notice things slow down when I'm using Photo, but my photo library is pretty big and sits on a separate 4T hard drive so I don't necessarily fault the laptop. If you buy the laptop, I recommend buying a USB adapter hub so you have additional USB ports. With the laptop only coming with 2, of which one is usually used for charging, it's pretty limiting without an additional hub. Overall, it's a great laptop at this price point.

I purchased this MacBook Air about a month ago. I did not want to review until I had put 4 weeks of time into the review. Everything has improved on this device from the 2015 through 2019 models. Keyboard, software, keeping the Touch ID, retina screen. The screen size is 13 inch, but the over all dimensions are only 1/4 inch larger than my Late 2010 MacBook Air 11 inch screen model, which is still working after 10 years. The same build quality. It also comes with 6 month free Webroot security, and 4 month free iTunes. The only negative is the same complaint I have been making for the last 10 years, and on this MacBook is that it only has 2 USB-C ports available. That means that you have to buy a hub for your peripherals. The only hub worth buying for this Mac is the Kingston Nucleum because of the pass thru power that is required by one of the ports and it is the only hub in my collection that does not get hot or even warm because of the blazing fast performance of this Mac. This hub is not sold by Best Buy though. Don't waste your money on any other computer. This model is the best any purpose all around useful Mac. However, gamers and video editors should buy the MacBook Pro 16 inch model.

I fell in love with mine that I got for another apple lover and she is so happy about it! Perfect size for for backpacks and even my purses. Super light and easy to learn! I never had an apple computer and was nervous changing from a Windows but it was easier to get use to and only took two of using to even know intricate system settings that I couldn't fin on any windows computers. I am a student and work from home for businesses social media sites - more than enough storage and ability for me to do online school and also create graphic and utilize apps and graphic creating programs to be successful. The personalization is endless and the best part about any apple product ... APPLE CARE IS WORTH IT EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE IT AND APPLE'S WEBSITE PROVIDES EVERY BIT OF SUPPORT YOU NEED AS WELL AS INFORMATION ON PRODUCTS THAT I NOW FEEL LIKE A PROFESSION IT WORKER. It is a great feeling fixing or answering my own questions about anything i don't know but apple care provides so much additional support that I can fall back on that if I need to . I have never had to use it but still would never pass up apple care on any product.

Please disregard ALL the reviews online and on here with the i5 model heating up. I had it for over a week now and it only gets "warm" under severe multi-tasking and video editing, which is what this laptop IS NOT designed to do. I also had the i3 model and noticed it was a bit slower than the i5 model. The heat issues are only visible if you push the laptop to its limits, which is what 99% of people don't do with laptops. If you want to edit videos/create content- get a MacBook Pro. The air was not designed to be a powerhouse like everyone imagines it too. End of Story.

Cutting straight to the chase, the form factor, build quality, new keyboard, and portability of this laptop is a cut above the rest. The latest model of the MacBook Air is a nice step up in hardware hindered by higher expectations And heavy work loads. If you are a casual MacBook Air user I think this is a great laptop. The problem arises when you consider the price tag Performance you associate with that price range in 2020. Sure this is the cheapest MacBook Air ever BUT only with an i3 and it’s nearly the same specs as the previous generation. Youtubers were quick to recommend the i5 version as it offered 4 cores which is stellar for such a thin laptop. However a few days later everyone hit the brakes. Why? For me personally I work in IT I keep up with the latest tech albeit processors, graphics cards, etc. The i5 in the MacBook Air is almost identical to Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3. The Surface 3 can handle light gaming, heavier workloads, and it sports a really nice metal build just like the MacBook Air i5. And it’s Cheaper! If you run a tool that monitors the processor temp, this thing hits 100c almost constantly if you’re running anything demanding. Granted that will not break the laptop but you can expect a shorter lifespan than others on your $1100-1300 laptop! I suspect Apple really wants you to fork out the extra money for a MacBook Pro which they have every right to do. It just hits a tipping point of is it really worth it. The majority of users I suspect will but this model for the space and won’t do much more than email, internet, and YouTube and or Nexflix. That’s really the limit of what you can do as it is, you’re just paying a hefty price tag and if you have the money enjoy. But for those that say the i5 processor with the G7 Integrated graphics that runs fairly impressive on the Surface Laptop 3, this isn’t even close. The chip throttles so much and can’t even limit gameplay to 30fps and get it smooth enough. The previous MacBook airs seem to do around the same if not better. Plenty of videos online showing this processor throttles all the way down to last gen performance with slightly better battery life.

As I am a student and my 2015 MacBook Pro is on its last legs (running out of disk space every other day!), I decided to splurge and buy myself a new laptop. I first went with the new (base model) MacBook Pro - touch bar and everything. I actually really didn't like it, despite the fancy marketing and everything - I missed tactile keys. So, I returned it and bought the 8GB/512GB MacBook Air, with real keys at the top intact!! While my first order shipped in under 24 hours, the exchange took longer - BUT, I saved $128, with my AppleCare subscription retained. I am sooo happy with my new laptop! The profile is very lightweight and sleek, and not too pointy like I feared. I chose silver to pay homage to Apple's design classic, and I'm so excited for the extra space I have for music and photos. Touch ID is a nice simplified perk that the Air keeps!

I love almost everything about my laptop. It’s faster than the 2016 version I had. I wish the MacBook Air had more USB ports. Also, the fan comes on when you are charging while using it. I don’t think it slows with speed but I believe the MacBook Pro can handle these smaller pet peeves. I saved a few hundred dollars by going with the Air vs Pro. Also, the weight and the color sold me for travel usage and DJ’ing.

Purchased this for my son. He's a sophomore and this is his first year in a large public school. He wanted an Apple Mac Book which was a big surprise to me because we use PC's in our home. He and his Mom both use iPhone's though which probably explains how he adapted to this MacBook so easily. It's a perfect size for carrying to school in a backpack and unbelievably thin and light. Personally I was surprised that it doesn't have a touch screen but research reveals that no Apple lap top offers touch screens, at least not yet. My son loves the MacBook Air. It's fast has great resolution and he's now one of the "cool Kids" with an Apple on his lap top! Thanks Dad!!!

Bought this MacBook Air to replace my 2013 version. So far I have been very happy with my purchase except for having to purchase an adapter to use my older USB A drives. Based on what I had to pay, it would of been nice of apple to include an adapter. Regarding the fan and heat issues, I started to experience the same issues after about 2 weeks of use. I did some research on line and someone mentioned they were having heat issues when using Google Chrome because of the resources it uses on a Mac. I decided to use Firefox and Safari exclusively to see if that would have any effect. 2 weeks after the change, I have not had any fan noise or excessive heat. If you are having heat issues, I would recommend giving that a try.

The MacBook Air is replacing a 9 year old MacBook Pro that worked great. The MacBook Air is more refined than the Pro (faster processor, lighter weight, better screen). The only thing that I wish were better is the camera. It's not quite as good as the MacBook Pro for some reason. Blogs I've read attribute it to the confined space available for the camera, being the area where the camera needs to be is very thin (as compared to the Pro). But, I didn't buy the MacBook Air to use for much camera use. An external camera can be purchased, if this changes. All-in-all, Apple has done another great job!
