Customers praise the MacBook Pro 13.3" for its strong performance, ease of use, and impressive battery life. Many appreciate the keyboard, design, and lightweight portability. However, some customers express concerns about the condition of the pre-owned laptops received and find the price to be high for the included storage and RAM. A few also mention the laptop can get quite warm during use.

Amazing experience, doesn't need to match PC specs

I usually am an anti apple individual, more for the "macophiles," who blindly bought products without really knowing anything about them. After getting 4 years out of my gateway computer that is still running without problems save for a loud fan, I needed a new computer. I had every intention on getting a $600 PC that truly had all the bells and whistles of Macs and then some. However, after using both computers for a while, I realized that Macs do not offer all that a PC does in terms of specs, however, it truly trumps the PC in terms of the experience. In my opinion the reasons Macs are more pleasurable to use include the flawless track pad that i actually prefer to a bluetooth mouse, the wonderful back lit keyboard, the speaker quality, the start up time, the magsafe charger, the dimensions of the product, and most importantly, the ease of navigation between and in windows. All of these ultimately end up in my desire to use the computer as much as I can, something I couldn't say about my PC.
As for price purposes, its similar to paying for an Audi when you get all of the same features and then some for a ford taurus at half the price, however, anyone who has driven an audi can attest that the experience is the difference.

Once you try the Macbook pro you will never regret I am a student and I have basic needs but at the same time programming it's my main need with my mac I can easily do it and run as many programs as I want. This is a very portable computer and it as asleek design long lasting battery and powerful simply the best over so many other systems. This is the second I will get and I will always love it pay some extra bucks and save time and be efficient!

Largely depends how you plan to use it.

Fairly pleased and am looking forward to fully using it. I use it mostly for lite things like browsing, note taking, organiser, et cetera. I have some games installed. It runs them perfectly, but as stated in many reviews, it gets very hot very fast when gaming. With that said, I feel somewhat limited as to what I can do.
There's a lot of Apple programs included. You can see this as a plus if you use them (i.e. video editing... which I imagine makes it hot), but I just see them as something they included to raise the price.
The 320gb hard drive is enough for my use. There is no HDMI port, but you can purchase an adapter and connect to an HDTV (so far without audio). The two USB drives are a little too close together, but still usable. Given the Bluetooth capabilities of everything now, two is enough in my opinion. When I first got it the battery life was short. After using and charging it a few times the advertised 6- to 7-hours is a bit more realistic.
The general belief that "Mac OS is incompatible with all programs" is very untrue. The most popular programs have Mac versions, and those that don't have alternatives. It just requires some looking. I don't know if these now come with Mac OS X Lion, but if they do, waiting for the kinks to get worked out or ordering it with Snow Leopard would be best (if possible). In general, I advise against updating. Lion is visually much less attractive and I really see nothing wrong with Snow Leopard.
One of the main factors is that Macs just last longer. A MacBook Pro can easily last you your entire college career. A PC, likely not.
So, students, you can't get better. Gamers, maybe look into a PC laptop or an iMac (Mac desktop).

Hi, I'm a PC... well, I was.

I've been a lifelong Windows user, and have sworn that I would never use a Mac. I had also said the same thing about iPods, and now I use an iPod Shuffle, a Touch, and an iPhone 4. This transition was inevitable.
The computer is slim, and with a strong aluminum case, I am not worried about durability. I baby all my computers, anyway. It features a magnetic power cable. The days of loose cables or tripping and pulling the computer off of the desk are a thing of the past!
The performance is also amazing. Load times are almost nonexistent, as this computer is very fast. It only has 320gb of space, but that's more than enough for me. I do keep an external USB hard drive, just in case.
To make it even better, it includes Bluetooth functionality, so I can connect a Bluetooth headset to it.
And the battery life is amazing. I have never owned a laptop that had such a great battery life.
I do not regret buying this one bit, and though a little pricey, it is well worth it.

The switch has been bitter-sweet
Posted .

I finally decided to switch from windows to mac. I've found the switch to be somewhat bittersweet and expensive. Only a couple pieces of software I used was compatible for mac OS X. I find myself switching back and forth from windows 7 (bootcamp) to lion.
Some specific problems: Printer drivers and compatible printers - good luck. User interface is more difficult to use than windows. The keyboard lacks page up, page down, delete (as used on widows based keyboards). The money trap commonly associated with Apple products - have to repurchase software - have to buy add on adapters to use with peripherals (HDMI, VGA, etc.).
Some specific pros: The smooth operation between applications. I have not found much waiting at all for large memory based programs or multiple programs running simultaneously. Internet surfing in Safari is neat with the gestures done on the trackpad. The keyboard, while lacking keys I've used for years, is super easy to type on (I think I've been able to type about 10 more words per minute at least). Battery charges fast and lasts long. Screen is nice - resolution, glass, hinges, etc.
I think I will eventually come around, but the transition has not been as smooth as I thought it would be. Hey, I can't afford to go back now! ;)

i bought a toshiba laptop and on the next day i returned it and exchanged it for a macbook pro! One of the best decisions i have ever made and the money was well worth it! I would recommend to anyone a MAC over a PC any day! Its top notch quality from speed, look, style, and the screen and graphics are amazing! When they say you get what you pay for, it is definately true in this case. If you dont have a Macbook Pro yet, get one!!

PROS AND CONS
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This is a nice machine. Get ready to retrain yourself if your normally a windows user. I like the software for photos and movies and think it is real user friendly. I like that you can easily link all your apple devices and transfer data with ease. We also bought the 2TB time capsule combo router/ storage device. Very nice that you can set up auto backups and it runs in the background remotely. Love the sturdy feel and the clean operations without all the 3rd party extra software like a new windows machine.
My CONS..
I have experienced slow operations and locking up. Requiring a hard reboot. and for the high price tag they should come standard with more HD space and more RAM. If you bought a top of the line new DELL ( alluminum enclosed and very thinlined)and buit to suit for the same price you would have one super fast machine with a huge HD. My last con is the constant google searching I have to do to find information on the how to do's with mac.
At the end of the day I can kinda see the hype about the whole MAC resurgance as it is a very nice machine with clean smooth operations and good software built in. Im still not sure if I feel for the price its that much better than a high end windows machine.

Stunning! Remarkable! Now a "former PC user!"

My HP laptop appears to have a failing mother board, and will be retired to the "pile of other PC laptops" in my closet. This will be the third since 2003 or so. I don't abuse my laptop, I'm the only user, no kids, and the only traveling it does is from the underside of the end table to my lap, and back again when I'm done. No idea why they all seem to have some catastrophic failure within just a couple of years. And I hate changing laptops because I'll need to try to transfer all my old files, re-learn everything, get comfortable with the setup, and I know there will be "red X's" and "error messages" throughout the process. Stuff just won't work, and I'll never understand why, and therefore I'll never get to use it. But this is the death of yet another laptop, and I needed to buy another one pronto.
I was down to a decision between two new Toshiba laptops, and in the 11th hour (seriously), something struck me to look at the MacBook Pro. My husband has been using a Mac since he's a designer, loves everything about them. I bought him a nice 17" MacBook Pro a few years ago, thought it was a very nice laptop in every respect. But I've never even ventured to Apple/Mac because I've always used MS Office software, and to my knowledge, it just wasn't compatible and I couldn't do anything work-related on a Mac. So I never gave it a look. I began my power research, looking for any reports on Office functionality. Within the reviews of the Best Buy website, I found all of my answers! So today, I took the dive and bought myself this magnificent little dream! I was terrified that my decades of PC-driven habits and complete lack of Mac experience would have me lost. Instead, I've had a remarkable experience! Every single thing -- from the simple instructions to get started, the flawless execution of the start-up/set-up, the instant recognition of my wireless modem, the installation of the new Office for Mac 2011 getting done without one single hitch, and my ability to get online instantly, has been incredible!
This laptop is absolutely spectacular! As everyone who has migrated from a PC has said, "Why have I waited so long?!" Everything is intuitive, VERY FAST in every application, the resolution is incredibly crisp, the sound is nicely balanced and full. And the touch pad -- holy smokes, is that cool! And it's extremely friendly to work with, also. This thing is just plain FUN!
I'll say this...I had planned on spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $700-$800 plus tax for the laptop and a new printer. When all was said and done, and having bought the Office for Mac, my grand total was just under $1,500. WAAAAY more than I originally planned. But knowing that a Mac will last for what seems like forever, and has a reputation for sustaining great performance over time, AND I won't have to buy and RE-LEARN another laptop!, I think this was an excellent purchase decision. I've had so much fun tonight. I still need to figure out how to link to my work through Citrix (calls for a new version of Netscape or something to that effect) and how to transfer my email files and contacts into my "Mail" application. Everything else has just been wonderful!
PC users -- those of you who are thinking about making this leap, just do it! I'm as hesitant as they get when it comes to breaking away from old and consistent habits. Especially something as psychologically menacing as learning an entirely new computer operating system! Having jumped in head first today, this is going to be a piece of cake! I'm now excited, not afraid!
Man...this thing is just awesome!
My heartiest kudos to the team at Best Buy in Valley Ranch (Irving), TX! Thomas, Christian, Russell, and Bernardo! Thanks to you all!

I'm not exactly what you call an apple fan but after going through 4 hp laprops that all ended up over heating do to the lack of thermal paste on tge heatsync I decided to go mac. So far I'm still trying to hurdle tge learning curve that all pc users will have when moving to a mac but Iam enjoying the performance and speed, not to mention how quite this guy is. Down side is tter the soft ware has to be exclusive to mac and none of your old pc soft ware will work so expect to spend some more on the needed software. Although its nice not havibg to worry about viruses so I guess its a trade off plus you dont need to make any recovery discs like pc based laptops. But after all is said and done I'm pleased with my purchase regardless how expensive it might of been.
Ps make sure you ask about the 100 student discount you can always put that saved cash towards that software I was mentioning lol

The Best!

I love my MacBook Pro! By far the best laptop I have ever owned. I used to be a PC guy and grew up being used to Window but I couldn't resist the MacBooks after i previously purchased other Apple products (iPhone, Apple TV, Time Capsule). After using PCs for so long it did take me a little getting used to, i.e. the format, the layout etc. but these computers are so easy to use that i became acclimated very quickly. The design of the computer is sleek yet elegant. The performance is unmatched. It runs quietly and efficiently and is extremely quick. The i7 Intel processor i presume is faster, by how much, I'm not sure, however, the i5 core processor version was at a good price so i snagged it. And it was one of the best choices I've ever made with technology. If you own other Apple products chances are you'll be very happy with Apple computers.

I love this computer. I've known that I wanted a Mac for quite some time and I finally have it and I love it. Our computer labs in elementary school only had Mac so I was used to the set up and it wasn't difficult for me to get used to it. Even if I hadn't had that experience I think this machine would still be easy to use. It seems to be pretty durable, the display is beautiful, the shortcut keys are very convenient, it's fast, everything I could ask for. I'm a 5th year college student, it's perfect for what I need - documents, papers, letters, power-points, resumé's (i got the office for mac), music, videos (making and watching), e-mails and browsing the internet. The only worry that I have is that the top of the keyboard gets pretty warm when I'm using the FaceTime feature.
