This computer has plenty of memory. There is also plenty of SSD hard drive space for multiple users. Apple has several programs that come with it. There are plenty of advanced applications that are available from the app store at reasonable prices. Once purchased on your Apple id they are easily restored if needed. If needed Apple customer service is by far the best in the business. BestBuy has a great return policy and there is always someone on hand to answer questions to help find the right device for every level user.

...but otherwise the computer is everything I expected. On the day I purchased the "open box" unit and brought it home, I found it was set to the german language and I had to return to have it reset. Since then, the computer and I are overseas and there's still some german words lingering in some applications... i.e. Calendar, File Labels, and it seems to have to do with colors. Unexpected... but tolerable. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Great resolution on the screen (it is a retina after all), good speed. Quick boot. Flash storage very fast. Pros: Apple makes a great product. It looks good, is clean design and relatively light (considering it is a 15" display). OS X doesn't degrade performance over time like Windows flavors. No Windows laptop does a trackpad as well as Apple Macs. Great integration with iOS via iCloud (if you're an iPhone/iPad user). Cons: Can't be expanded. Limited USB connectivity. No built-in DVD. Huge price. This is an Apple product, so you pay a premium. If you're buying a Macbook, you're not buying a laptop you intend to replace in 2 years and should consider it an investment. If you are new to Mac OS, this is a big leap due to the cost and would recommend you scrutinize it heavily (or try out a friend's) before plunking down the cash. If you're a OS X or iOS user already, this is a no brainer purchase if you want more screen real estate than an Macbook Air.

The 15 inch MacBook Pro delivers exceptional performance, sports a dazzling retina display, gives you great bang for the buck, and has a profusion of screen real estate for demanding work such as gaming, movie making, 3d rendering, or intense computer programming, and contains a blazing fast flash storage based SSD. In addition, it is certainly a portable computer packed with power when you need it. Furthermore, the gorgeous retina display sets it out from the MacBook and MacBook Air lineup. Although the 13 inch MacBook Pro is definitely a powerful computer, you can not match the 15 inch as it is practically a desktop replacement with the quad core Haswell i7 chips. All in all, this computer is a bit pricey, but you are definitely getting your money's worth by buying this computer, and you cannot go wrong with it. Thus, I recommend all of you to buy this cutting edge, powerful, and aesthetically pleasing peice of hardware!

    Great laptop for an editor

I do video production for a living, so I need a laptop that can handle fairly intense editing, animation, and graphics work. I've been holding off on replacing my old (2008!) MacBook Pro for some time, debating whether I really needed a separate graphics card or if the integrated one would meet my needs. When the MBPs received their latest spec bump and the base model was upgraded to 16GB of RAM, I decided to take the plunge on the cheaper model. Having used the laptop for several weeks now, I can safely say that it does meet my (fairly demanding) needs. It has easily handled all the HD video editing I've thrown at it in Premiere Pro and After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop run well also. Render time is one area where it seems to slow down a bit, but that's a trade off I can live with – and it's not actually too bad. The machine itself is beautiful, sturdy, light, and thin – what you expect (and pay for) with an Apple product. The display in particular is gorgeous and the resolution makes it possible to run programs that require a fair amount of screen real estate – although it does take a little getting-used-to to go from my 27" desktop to my 15" laptop. I work off of external hard drives, so the 256GB SSD is sufficient for me – but 512GB would be nice. I'd also love a third USB port, but this hasn't really been a problem so far. I've been impressed with the battery life and charging time, although I haven't done any exact tests. I will say that I don't really game on the laptop, so I can't speak to its performance there. But if you're a Mac-based video editor like me, I think you'll be very happy with the performance of this machine.

This macbook is amazing. It has made my life so much easier when working with photo-editing software. It is light and sleek looking and very fast. I honestly do not have any bad things to report so far. I was a Sony Vaio fan previously, and while there is nothing wrong with that product at all, I feel the macbook is far superior in performance and speed.

Macbook Pro for the power user.

With a quad-core i7 processor, a 15" retina display and 16GB standard memory, this Macbook Pro is truly for the power user. This model is the least expensive of the 15" Macbook Pro notebooks, and still very good. But, you may wish to get a faster processor, discrete graphics (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M Graphics (2GB)) and more storage (up to 1TB) depending on your needs.

I have another review of the smaller, 13" MBP model, and complained over the overheating issues. For starters, I use this computer for school and software development. This model is much improved over the 13" model in every aspect. Although the performance isn't as smooth as the 13" (I blame the lower clock), it is stable performance. Nice adjustable screen (can simulate up to 1920x1200p for real estate if needed), perfect keys, nice [light] weight to it, and the Macintosh OS is something to experience. Stuff literally "just works," and I can always rely on picking up my macbook and resuming work with no waiting period (vs my Windows counterpart). I used to hate Apple. Still dislike their iPad (returned that as well). But I'll give credit where it's due, Mac OS is awesome, especially for developing and I respect Apple for that. Mimics Linux in that aspect -- thank you UNIX!! So... I can whole heartedly recommend this, ESPECIALLY over the 13" model. Worth the price difference.

I've been a PC use for as long as I can remember. I've always envied my musician friends macs. However, I never understood why someone would pay $2000 for a laptop?? I'm completely convinced why now!!! I am a drummer / musician and do a lot of recording. I do a lot of session work in some of the larger recording studios in the Houston area (all of which have Macs BTW). I've tried using PC's to record with in the past. I've always had the "top of the line PC's"... There is honestly no comparison. Not even close! I had given up trying to record with a PC. This MacBook is a game changer!!! Seriously!!! I can now use my interface and record 16 channels of audio simultaneously (I'm sure I could easily record more if needed). Before with a PC that was impossible. I possibly could record 10 tracks, but I spent more time figuring out how to fix problems (clicking, popping, crashing, etc...) before. I am using an Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt with a Universal Audio 4-710 preamp connected via ADAT. I also now use Apples recording program, Logic X. Logic is so simple and powerful that I'm completely amazed :) With this laptop I can track 16 inputs with Waves plug ins and I'm averaging less than 2 ms latency. I never imagined that possible before! I use this set up for my income, so the $2k I spent has literally paid for itself in a few week! I am so excited about recording now. Before with my "top of the line PC" I dreaded it! I know there is a lot of hype with Apple products, but I'm now a true believer! It's like my iPhone and iPad. This laptop just works! It works incredibly well!!! Every time :) If you're a musician who plans to do any computer recording, take my word for it. BUY THIS MACHINE! BTW, did I mention how sexy this laptop is??? It's screen is amazing, curves in all the right places... Battery life? Incredible! I can spend many hours without needing an AC adapter. I'll shut up now and get back to recording on my portable world class studio :)

Apple make a pretty consistent product, but this computer with the brilliant sharp retina display and super fast SSD drive is exceptional. The 16GB RAM runs Adobe Creative Suite with ease - plenty of onboard space but really fast transfers to external storage with either USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt connection. The keyboard is tactile and comfortable and the 15" computer has plenty of real estate. I'd recommend getting the Magic Mouse to really enhance the experience. If you're willing to step away from a Windows PC and can manage the pretty high price, it's worth it. (I paid less than book thanks to an awesome Black Friday deal on bestbuy.com!)

No Better Notebook to be Had

From the moment the 15” Retina MacBook was unveiled, I have lusted over it. For the past year or so, I have been on the cusp of purchasing it. For the longest time, I figured I would buy the computer refurbished straight from Apple — yet, astonishingly, I got a better deal for it NEW from Best Buy. I had to pull the trigger. This computer has not failed to meet my lofty expectations. It is not intended for gaming (no Mac is really) but for those interested in design (such as I am) there is, in my estimation, no better notebook on the market. This computer is thin, light and attractive — yet not wanting for power with an i7, 16GB of RAM and PCIe solid state storage under the hood. Then there’s the stunning ultra high resolution “Retina” IPS display. I’m sure this computer will withstand the test of time, as both my past Macs had. It’s undoubtedly an investment but one worth making if content creation is your trade … or aspiration.

    Epitome of a perfect machine!

Just a perfect machine. I purchased the 2014 as I didn't see enough value in the 2015, or enough to make me jump on it, with the difference in price. I've been a longtime Windows user that's had enough! Started with my i7 Mac Mini with 16gig ram and had to get something that was equally powerful, however portable, and this was so the right move. I'm an Android user for life, so I don't get to take full advantage of the "Handoffs" from PC to phone, but I do enjoy every other facet of this computer. Pro's: -Screen is gorgeous, truly a sight to behold. -hefty i7 processor and 16 gigs of ram will ensure that the computer won't suffer obsolescence -great machine all in all. Cons: Definitely not the cheapest computer out there, but those of you looking for a beast like this, understand that you not only get the insides with an apple, but also the outside is as refined and simple as one can get.

    Great laptop! Screen Real Estate!!

I bought this laptop because I wanted a larger screen than what was my primary daily driver (MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012). I love my old laptop and gave it all the upgrades it could handle (SSD and 16 GB of RAM) and it ran like a charm! However it was missing something I was constantly finding myself in need of, screen real estate. So I decided to upgrade to the new MacBook Pro Retina 15" and believe me it was worth it! Everything about this laptop is great. Only one thing bugs me is how dirty the screen gets but that is easily fixed. Worried about it being a Mac? With the speeds this computer is running at using a VM of windows 8.1 on this machine makes it a great Windows machine!
