Customers are saying

Customers admire the MacBook Pro's ease of use, lightweight design, and impressive performance. The Retina display and long battery life also receive significant praise. While some find the price high and miss the optical drive, the positive feedback on other features outweighs these concerns. Many appreciate the ample storage and fast SSD.

Quick, reliable start-up, user-friendly as are all Apple products, retina display is fantastic compared to my early-2011 17-in MBP especially for its smaller size, very quiet fan, definitely portable. If you can afford the price, this MBP definitely performs better than the 12-in MacBook or 13-in MacBook Air for not much additional heft. Perfect for everyday, at-home use - internet surfing, online streaming, some word processing (MS Office Suite is easily downloadable).

PC guy changed to a Mac

Well I spent weeks doing my research, and most importantly trying to decide if I wanted to change from my old Toshiba laptop to a MacBook. I knew there would be a learning curve to get used to the small differences that there are between a PC and a Mac. I don't have a tremendous amount of free time and I surely didn't want to spend it learning how to transition and operate in a new format. Ultimately I decided it was best for my wife and I that we have a MacBook as it would work well with our iPhones. Of course I didn't quote know what that meant. I was very wary of the difference in price - the MacBooks were quite a bit more expensive than a PC. I was told that Apple uses "premium" components in building their computers. That's all fine and dandy, but had a hard time paying nearly double and not getting the highest processor, the highest hard drive, as well other items. Having an old PC that was so slow it was painful, I couldn't much of a difference between the fastest PCs and the MacBook I ended up with. I asked a lot of questions to the sales staff, and found they weren't well equipped to answer the main question of what the main difference was between the PCs and the Macs. I took my research to friends and online forums. Ultimately there was too much online and my friends gave the best advice and info on how they are different. So I won't do it justice here, but there are MANY ways in which the MacBooks are superior to PCs. The biggest knock against a Mac is that they are less customizable. Well I couldn't care less about manipulating my computer - I just want it to work. The MacBooks make most things more simple. From organization, to functionality, it just works better. They offer the same level of simplicity (in the right ways) as the iPhone does. Setup was very easy. I thought I would need Geek Squad to help, but the migrate assistant was very easy. I did make one mistake though, when transferring data from my PC to the Mac, I plugged the two computers together via ethernet, but instead I was supposed to plug them both into my router. After quite some time of online research I finally realized they were supposed to be put together through the router. I was glad I bought the ethernet adapter (there is no ethernet port on this laptop) because I don't know if I would have been able to transfer my data from my old PC if not for it. Aside from this setup was very easy. I was annoyed that all computers and laptops no longer come with a CD-ROM / DVD drive. I did purchase an external BluRay player, which I am please with. It works well and I really don't use it much. So having it external makes the actual laptop more portable. I purchased Microsoft Office when I bought the laptop, as there were discounts to do so. I am happy I have it, and it works well. Looks just slightly different, but works the same. I was surprised to find that my text messages link to the MacBook, so I can send and receive them. My yahoo email also works nicely through their program. It reminds me of having Outlook run your email although it doesn't operate the same. I just like it. As expected the iPhones link simply and quickly through the MacBook. I also LOVE the HDMI port. I like using it to connect to the TV to run Skype and it will work well with other streaming media like Netflix and Hulu (don't have now, but will in the future). I wished the hard drive was bigger. I know it will fill quickly as everything seems to be taking up more space as time goes on. Overall I'm very pleased with it. If you are on the fence between the two, I would strongly recommend going for it, especially if you are already and iPhone user. Many programs/apps are the same for both. It helps to make a transition more simple. I can't remember all the different ways in which it's better, but it's just a lot of little things that make the experience better. If you are new to Apple, be prepared to be a bit more patient while you learn the differences. On occasion things will come up that annoy me because I knew how to do them on the PC, but will have to look online for answers. Also don't worry so much about getting the top of the line processor, I have the 5 and it's plenty fast. In my opinion though it's worth paying for the hard drive space. I have owned this MacBook for 2+ months and am feeling pretty good about how everything works.

A splendid update to this product and wonderful replacement for a 6 year old 13" MacBook Pro. The Retina screen provides beautiful color, which is really nice for photo editing. The machine is fast and with the SSD boots from a power down state in less than 30 seconds. Applications launch nearly instantly and scanning through photos is very fast. The SSD is hush quiet, actually silent. The only time the fan runs is after much intensive photo editing. On initial set-up, "restoring" from a Time Machine back-up moves all of your files from your previous machine to the same location on the new one. The only difference you will notice after that is the reduced weight, beautiful screen and speed.

I purchased this because my old 15" Macbook is now 6 years old and the hard drive was getting full and I wanted something a little smaller for travel. It was so easy to transfer everything over from my old one to my new one; I didn't even have to connect the two although that would have made it faster. On the downside, there is no optical drive on the new Macbook. I didn't realize that until I went looking for it when I wanted to burn a CD. I will have to buy an external optical drive which isn't a huge deal considering how infrequently one uses those anymore. But if you want to watch movies regularly from a DVD, you should consider that. Also, I do not like the new "Photos" software which replaces iPhoto. iPhoto is way better and luckily I didn't make the mistake of updating Yosemite to 10.2.3 or I would have lost it. If you update to Yosemite 10.2.3, be warned that your iPhoto will be replaced with Photos. I am going to use 10.2.2 for as long as possible to avoid this. I made the mistake of updating to 10.2.3 on my old Macbook and now I have to use Photos on that computer and it is awful compared to iPhoto. I am a photographer so this is a big issue for me. They removed a lot of the editing features that I frequently used, in the new software and I really hate it. Other than that I am very happy with this new Macbook.

After switching to a MacBook Pro in 2011 I knew I'd never go back - Macs run so fast, have beautiful screen resolution, are easy to use, sync so well with the iPad/iPhone/etc... but my 2011 Pro was getting old, a little slow, and is also SUPER heavy compared to the average laptop in today's standards. So I decided to finally upgrade to a new Pro this year (would get the Air but I don't travel much at the moment, and I wanted the additional processing power). I could've waited forever because Apple makes improvements to every new Pro, but I guess it was finally time. AND I AM SO GLAD I DECIDED TO BECAUSE THIS IS A HUGE HUGE HUGE UPGRADE!! the graphics are crisp, sharp, BEAUTIFUL, and it is SOOOOOOOOO FAST. The improvements that Apple has made to the Pro in the last few years are amazing. It's also super light compared to my old model. As usual, these are pricy compared to non Macs, but if you're able to spend the additional money for a Mac, you won't be disappointed! (If you're coming from Windows, it will take a little to get used to the interface and shortcuts, etc, but once you do, you may become a loyal Apple convert just like me!) Also it pays to get it through Best Buy where there are sometimes sales ($50-$100 can make a difference) and you can get BestBuy points. very happy with my purchase.

I did a lot of research on Mac's before making the decision to purchase my first one. Since I have trouble buying anything that's not top of the line, I originally made the decision to purchase the MacBook Pro with the larger display. When I went in to the store, I quickly realized the Mac Pro with the 13 inch screen was the best option. It's light enough to carry and the perfect size to carry everywhere with me. Wonderful graphics and great processor. Highly recommend.

You might say that Mac's aren't the most fllashy or don't have all the latest tech such as touch screen, but you simply can't beat ease of use. This Mac replaced a 6 year-old iMac, and I couldn't be happier. I originally thought the HP Spectre may be the laptop for me, but after a week of use I simply couldn't find the same simplicity of a Mac and was surprised that some of my needed work programs didn't play nicely with Windows 8.1. My family also has an older MacBook Pro, and I'm amazed at how far the advancements have come - much better screen, SSD is amazing (but available on most laptops today), OS X runs like a champ, and I don't have to buy MS Office or a PDF converter. These simple enhancements make the upgrrade feel well worth it.

I stepped up from a 2012 series MBP, and I had already upgraded that computer to SSD and maxed out the RAM. Right out of the box the first thing I noticed was how light to was compared to my old Mac. It's sleeker, faster and like most Apple products it had nice lines. I don't miss the DVD/CD drive, as I can't remember the last time I used one. And the picture quality is just amazing. My wife is using this for medical school and I'm sure it will last all the way through it.

Purchased this for myself, always had windows computers in the past. Well worth the extra money. You pay for what you get. They stand behind their product and the other companies just give you the "runaround " when something goes wrong. Always had the big models on Windows, that is the only thing that is upsetting. Used to the 1 tb of storage but never came close. So the computer that I got was the 512 gb storage. Plenty enough and you can always get more by purchasing USB drives. Very fast for everyday use and business. The 13 " is perfect size and is surprising light. 15" was just over kill and not worth the extra dough. All in all best computer I have ever owned by far. Liked it so much I bought the same model for my wife a week later.

Pros: - The screen is incredible with several scaled resolutions to give you the workspace you prefer - New force touch trackpad is a huge improvement that provides consistent click response and has an additional "force" click for additional contextual options - Fast SSD - Great battery life - Slim profile but retains most ports with the exception of Ethernet Cons: - Keyboard feels loose and has little feedback when compared to previous generations - Yosemite is still having some growing pains and performs poorly when using some UI functions, viewing large PDFs, and some other functions - Cost is high when compared to extra RAM and CPU that come standard in base 15" model Overall, this is an outstanding laptop, possibly best in class. I can recommend it without hesitation to anyone needing a highly portable laptop with as few compromises as possible.

This laptop is amazing! I went from an older 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro to this. The lower specs was worth it since it gave me better battery life and more portability. The computer is pretty much entirely flash based so it is not required to have highest specs for a fast laptop. Plus OSX is more efficient when it comes to speed and battery life. This computer also runs Windows 8.1 Pro like a beast I cannot wait for Windows 10.

This computer has been everything I wanted and more. I did a lot of research about which model I wanted (looking at the new macbook, the tiny, thin macbook air, which actually isn't at all that much more compact (look it up), and the desktops of all models) and what screen size would be best, and honestly I think I picked so right. I had never had a Mac, so all new to me. But so great! I can't even. This is the best, and I'm so happy with my purchase. This little guy is so fast, so user friendly and so perfect for what I want. I use this guy to work from home from my law firm and for personal reasons because I love my music and want all of it catalogued and easily accessible. I was in between the 13.3 screen and the 15, and honestly, it's so perfectly portable, I don't miss the extra inches, unless I was really getting into design or graphics (you can always connect to a bigger, better monitor). The retina is so clear and such a difference for Netflix or what not. I would suggest that. You will see a difference. I went for the bigger hard drive because I'm not a techy and I wanted to deal with all of my cds cluttering my apartment and transfer them to my other devices, and this has been perfect (with the extra superdrive, so worth it for what I need). You could get away with the 256 or maybe the 128, depending on what you need and whatever works for you. I just love my purchase, and Best Buy's service and delivery was perfect, delivered within the week. Take some time, decide what you want, but you won't be disappointed especially if you have other Apple devices because they all talk to each other, which is one of the the best things about being an Apple user. Love it, but do you research, find what's going to work best for you and you won't be disappointed. And unless you want something super custom, which I thought about with the new slim Macbook, buy from Best Buy. It was a great experience.

This laptop has evolved so much over the past 3 years. It is a power house in a slim and beautiful form factor. I've easily gotten over 11 hours of battery life using it. The new processors sip battery and the screen is gorgeous. Everything just works when you need it to. I use it for both school and work and am happy I made this purchase over an air. A few years ago I had to compromise battery life for power and resolution. No more. You pay what you get for and this has surpassed all my expectations,

I have never owned a mac, but I have used them before. I am going to use it at school and so far it works great. It is a beautiful laptop and is very lightweight compared to many other laptops. The macbook pro is a little pricey though. It does have top of the line hardware. Its screen is beautiful. It has a broad well processor which helps a lot with battery life. I can watch a two hour movie on netflix and only use about 5 percent battery. I have also installed windows on it, I installed windows 8.1 because windows 10 is not supported yet. Windows works great and the install only took about a half hour. So I highly recommend this laptop and if you want to buy a good high quality laptop then buy this. One of the great things about apple products is the support they offer. The downside to apple computers is you cannot upgrade them or do maintenance so thats where windows pcs excel

I love my macbook pro. I purchased it primarily to use for school, and since I have a while to go before I finish school, I chose apple because the life span of their products is probably by far the best over any other companies , and I do have a windows pc still but it is up there in age and thus it is so much slower in processing than I like. My macbook is one purchase that was well worth it. It is so fast compared to my windows, the space on here is great, it's so reasonably light to carry and I love the preinstalled features such as the blue tooth technology, which allows me to send text messages to other iphone users and to answer phone calls to my iphone right on my laptop. This feature is great for the times when I am downstairs on the couch doing homework, but I left my phone upstairs to charge and people are texting and calling me. I also love how much easier it is to manage and keep up with compared to my windows. It's just so simple. The only complaint I have is that I didn't realize that it doesn't have a built in CD drive before I got it and additionally, it doesn't have the number short cut key pad off to the right of the key board like my windows does. I only like the CD drive idea because about half of my 1000+ songs in my itunes library came from CDs, and I do still occasionally buy some CDs today to download to the music from to itunes library, so needless to say, my itunes library is still on my windows pc because I cant figure out how to get all my music that came from CDs onto the mac without a CD drive (my back up hard drive device does not work either for moving my library from the pc to my mac), and as far a the number pad goes, I have quite a few passwords that involve several numbers and I just like that the number pad is so much easier and quicker to use than using the numbers that are overtop of the letters as they are on it currently. Other than that I am glad that I bought it and it's a great buy!

The Retina display on this Macbook Pro is incredible. And the speed is so much better than my previous Macbook Pro. The lighter weight is a big plus, too. The Apple wireless transfer from the previous Macbook did not work, but was able to use a usb hard drive to transfer programs and data. Everything went very smooth with ordering online and picking up in the store the next day.
