I needed to hook up my old Apple Cinema 30" HD display to a new iMac. It's dead simple to hook up but you've got to be careful to get the orientation of the Thunderbolt connector correct – one way works, the other doesn't. Not realizing that, I called AppleCare. AppleCare had no clue. After trying a bunch of things, I asked if orientation of the plug was important and the very nice agent said no. But I tried it anyway and found to my surprise that my Cinema 30" was suddenly working perfectly. Since then, it has been a delight.

very skeptical about it after reading the reviews in Apple's website, but I needed one to connect a MBPro to a 30" Dell. I bought one from Apple and had to return it because it did not work (screen would cut on-off). After a few days decided to reorder the same part, now from BestBuy, because it would be easier to return in case that did not work either. No issue here, worked right away, and it's been working for a month, and as it should. Only problem is that it is a relatively expensive dongle. So, for all those having issues with this connector, yes, it seems low quality, but keep returning it until you find the one that works.

After reading all the horror stories about this product, i jumped in with hesitation that this thing would really work, but i plugged it in, and there was my laptop screen on the Cinema Display. Love it, no jumping, no miscolored pixels, just right!

I have a 15" MBP and this adapter is the only way to connect a 30" Apple Cinema Display at the proper 2560x1600 resolution. Eats up a USB port, but you gain 2 when you use the 2 on the monitor.
