Great complement to MacBook Air

The light weight and portability of a new MacBook Air comes at the cost of not having an internal CD/DVD drive. I have a music collection of about 3000 CDs and 500 LP vinyl records. I can carry it all with me in the Air, but first I have to get it inside. The SuperDrive does a great job of putting it inside. It is quick, quiet and reliable ... and it continues loading music accurately into the Air despite the occasional jostling I give it accidentally. So far no falls to test its shock-resistance.
I find the short cord a plus: it's long enough to be able position the drive next to the Air as I want it, but short enough to avoid tangles and the risk of getting snagged and accidentally pulled out; those preferring things to be more spread out might prefer a longer cord.

I decided to purchase a Macbook Air rather than the Pro because it was lighter and traveled better. After thinking I didn't need the CD/DVD drive, I decided to purchase one anyway. Well, it couldn't have been easier. I managed to get it on sale at Best Buy but as far as ease of use, it couldn't have been better. Simply plug it in and I was burning a CD within 30 seconds. No software downloads, nothing. Plug and use. And since I don't need it often, it made sense to purchase this. Plus, my significant other has a Macbook Air and she can use it as well. Highly recommend if you need a drive but don't need it often enough to justify upgrading to a Pro.

As a law student and a clerk at a law firm, I needed to be able to play evidence CDs and DVDs while working on a case. I love my 12" MacBook, and I was worried that I would have to go back up to a larger Mac just to get the disc drive, but then I discovered this little gem and it saved the day! It runs great and does everything that an internal drive would do (as far as I can tell). I have not had issue 1 with it. And it really wasn't overly expense (all things considered when purchasing something from Apple). Oh! And it's lightweight and very compact, so it's easy to store in your briefcase/book bag every day. I would absolutely recommend it.

I bought a new iMac and needed a CD drive, why they don't have one is beyond me. Anyway the Apple Super drive is an excellent compliment to the computer. It looks great and works flawlessly. The brushed stainless finish matches the computer and is plug and play. It handles all my needs in playing and writing. I still like to burn my own cds and this works great. Handles all formats I use. It was more pricey than competitors but you get what you pay for. Very satisfied!

This drive is fast, quiet and looks very sleek. The best part about it is that it just works without any power cord. This drive makes it very convenient to carry around.

As you know Apple computers no longer come with built in CD Drive. This is an excellent DVD/CD drive that is easily recognized by apply computer. It's super fast, thin and light. I would highly recommend this product. Well worth the price. So far have not had a problem using it when playing DVD's.

after reading all the reviews, I decided to go get this disk drive and WOW!, so happy I did. Its very fast, plays everything, I can burn disks, it's really great, it was the one thing I was missing from my new iMac. Now I feel like it's complete. It's slim and fits right underneath the monitor, like it was meant to be there in the first place and now I rarely notice it. I would recommend this product, I'm very happy with it.

First external drive I've owned, but necessary as the iMac doesn't have one built in. Opted for the Apple SuperDrive to ensure comparability. Probably would have been fine with cheaper drive, but I wanted to be safe. Plug and play. Simple. Works perfectly and quietly. It's also nice to be able to unplug and tuck it away in a drawer until I need it again (not that it takes up any space...sits perfectly on iMac stand.) Happy with purchase.

It plugs directly into the usb port so no external power supply is needed. Small form factor and has a pad on the bottom to prevent it from moving around on the desk. Runs very quiet, even when writing to a disk. Can be ejected directly from the keyboard. The item that needs work is there is no eject button on the drive. If the disc doesn't eject you need try other means. The one that worked for me was to reboot the machine.

This external CD/DVD drive became a necessary peripheral accessory when it was no longer built into the desktop iMac computers as of a few years ago when Apple made the iMac profile super slender and had no more room for it. I assume it works the same as the previously built-in units. It accepts and ejects disks in the same manner as most car sound systems using a motorized mechanism. I was surprised by two discoveries, which probably have more to do with the Apple iMac and less to do with the drive. One, while it usually recognized the music on my CD (though not always), it never displayed the cover art. Secondly, I discovered that it didn't recognize the Blu-Ray disk format, which surprised me in this day and age. Overall, I like the way its design matches the hardware form and materials of the iMac desktop computer. It works well and smoothly in accepting and ejecting disks like a car's audio system (and unlike the cumbersome disk drive of my Dell desktop PC), and it's relatively quiet overall in operation. The price is surprisingly reasonable for an Apple product, so if you need a disk drive for your iMac or MacBook Air, this external peripheral is recommended. Simply plug in the USB cord and it's ready to go.

Welcome to the Brave New Digital World

Even though Apple is marching boldly into the All Digital World, there are many of us who still have and use disc based programs. So it was then that when we purchased a new iMac we quickly discovered we really do need an optical drive.
We tried a very highly rated drive from another manufacturer, but it was a disappointment -- loud and not 'plug & play' friendly. So we returned it in favor off the more expensive Apply Super Drive, and discovered that, yes indeed, you really do get what you pay for.
The Apple drive was simply to set-up being truly plug-&-play friendly, and we were operational within minutes. The unit itself is quiet and takes up very little real estate on your desk.
If you still want to play DVD's, burn CD's of your iTunes play list, or use disc based software (Games!) this unit is the one to get.

This drive works flawlessly with a 2014 iMac running an older OS as well as a 2015 Macbook Pro with Big Sur. Just plug in and use. Thought about an off-brand to save a little $ but I am happy to have the matching Apple drive.

I purchased this for my wife's new iMac computer. The newer model iMacs no longer have the CD/DVD drive built in. Works great and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Looks nice with the iMac. She placed hers directly under the display on the stand base and it blends in perfectly. Great Apple design and quality. I would definitely recommend.

Apple products are generally expensive, but they're quality and perform fantastically, and this drive is right on par. Wish this was also a bluray player, but I'll have to settle for what Apple gives me. There are plenty of other drives on the market who will frankly give you more for the money (like that bluray player and a higher speed), but they don't carry the name I've come to trust. I plug it in and don't have to worry about it letting me down when I need it. Solid, reliable and does what I need it to.

I feel that the price is a bit much when compared to other optical drives, but that's what is expected from Apple products. The optical drive looks great and fits well with other Apple products. The optical drive is very easy to use and setup. Just connect it to a USB port and its ready for use. Overall, this is a good optical drive that gets the job done.

This Optical Drive is a well-designed, easy to use, plug and play USB accessory. Now that most computers do not come with built-in DVD/CD drives, this fits the Bill perfectly. And you can move it from one computer to another effortlessly.

Easy set up. Fast and writes to multiple CD/DVD formats.
Doesn't take up much space in my laptop bag, very light and compact.
Only issue I have is the fact that I had to buy it because apple doesn't sell MacBook Pro's with any type of drive in them. But I used my points from the laptop purchase and really only spent $20 to get it so no point in complaining.
