It hooks up easily and there is no software to download or upload you just plug and play. The only drawback I can think of is it won't play blue ray. Don't know why Apple still has a problem with that but I bought another drive first that would play blue ray and it locked up the first time I tried to play one so...

Since Apple discontinued the built in drive on their products, I thought I would not like the external drive. I think it will work out because if it ever goes bad, I won't be without my iMac and mac book while waiting to get it repaired. I can easily use it with my iMac and mac book with no problems.....just plug and play!

Very compact and fast for the money. Sleek looking also.

I have only used it a couple of times, but is as easy as put in and click play. It is a hassle to carry along, but sacrifices for a lighter and slimmer macbook make up for it. If you use laptop on a table, then it works fine, but the cord is not long enough to utilize MacBook Air on your lap or laptop table. It just want to hang.

It has performed well, and as expected, I use it on a new iMac, and once it's plugged into the USB it is good to go. I have not burned anything as of yet, but my primary use is as an external disc drive, or ripping audio and video discs into my library. The only downside I would mention is the fact that it takes up a USB port on my iMac, and those are limited to begin with. While the sleek design is stylish on the new iMacs, leaving some width to have a built in drive is preferable for me.

So I got this drive because I got a MacBook without one and there was software that I required onto my laptop that only came in disk form. Just plug into the laptop and it's good to go and it's fast when importing music cd's so overall good product 5 stars

Great product easy to set up great price fast drive

Pretty much everything is downloadable now, so Apple figures you don't need a disc drive. Plus it helps keep the display/laptop really thin. But there are always exceptions. My old iMac had a built-in drive, and I just can't go without one completely, so it's a must for me. Easy to install and doesn't take up much space.

I was a little apprehensive about this product and just put the item to one side for a couple of weeks. When I did eventuality un pack it I was pleasantly surprised, I read the instructions and I couldn't be happier with this product and I would highly recommend it.

Apple MacBook pro did not come with an internal DVR drive, so I was happy to purchase the super hard drive, and play all my DVD's, and download applications. Thank you for the technical information provided by the store's employees.

purchased this superdrive along with the apple remote,,i love watching my dvds with this superdrive,,works great,,wish the apple remote worked with it so i dont have to keep getting up to press play and pause,,,,but it doesnt,,so i returned the remote.,,Please make the remote compatible with new macbook!

This thing works well. Durn and rip DVD and cd. It is quiet and easy to install. Clean lines it looks great under the iMac.

I do miss laptops that have the dvd/cd drive included. Besides that, it works as you would expect it to. The only issue is that the apple laptops never have enough ports on them!

The device does what it needs to do in my opinion. At the end of the day it is a CD drive. I only got it because I recently got a mac mini and wanted to do some video editing and compilations and needed to take videos off of CD's. I don't think it should be the price that it is, that's only because of it's name. I like uniformity so if I buy something apple that I want to purchase another apple product with it. But I think if you can get away with it, then you could go with another product.

It works just like it should. Apple took the disc ports out of their new Macbooks, because they thought people were moving away from using CDs and DVDs. If you watch a lot of DVDs on your computer like me and you have a new macbook you'll need one of these.

Like most apple items the price could be better, but it works, looks nice and doesn't take up a lot of room.
