Beyond its unique functionality within the Apple ecosystem, the Apple TV 4K is fundementally different than other streaming media players from Roku, Amazon, Google, etc. It's the only such device I know of that actually takes ownership of your TV's picture when you're watching it. During setup, the Apple TV 4K learns your TV's very best picture mode... say, "4K UHD with Dolby Vision'", and henceforth renders everything you watch into proper 4K Dolby Vision before sending it to your TV! So, when you watch your favorite HD TV series or even 20th-Century SD content on your modern 4K TV, you can either have your TV scale that video up by 400-800% and apply its built-in picture processing, or you can leverage the vastly superior silicon and actively-maintained software of the Apple TV 4K to bring that older content onto your modern display panel in an optimal way. Set your TV "Game Mode" to turn off its internal picture processing, and all your content looks its best through the ATV4K. Of course it's functionally similar in terms of using all the streaming services... I confess the UI of Google TV and Roku are better in some ways. But if you use an iPhone, a Mac, AirPods, etc - this is the way. Also, if you've got excellent modern home WiFi, a stereo pair of HomePods linked to an Apple TV 4K will outperform any comparably-priced soundbar - particularly for stereo music listening (the ATV4K supports HDMI [e]ARC so that your TVs native and other HDMI-connected media sources can play via the HomePods in this case). Anyway, there are reasons why this costs more than the competition. I've pointed out a few that Apple fails to market.

Just increased my WIFI speed and smart TV just was not fast enough so bought two Apple TV devices and the speed and picture improved as I am going streaming on all TV watching. I do not use my smart TV anymore just the Apple TV which is all controlled by a rechargeable remote. Great purchase and probably the best stremkng platform out there for speed, reliability, options with your apple devices, just a great produt

a friend of mine has one of these and from afar it looked pretty good. So I was looking to replace on of my roku's and thought I'd take the plunge. the out of the box quality was far superior than what i had. the ease of setup and operation is just out standing and it's speed is great. The picture quality and app selection is very good. I will recommend Apple TV to all my friends.

This is by far the best streaming box. Like most Apple products it's more pricey but it's also fits in nicely as part of the Apple infrastructure. It sets up easy, the interface is simple and the entire product like everything Apple is simple and elegant. It can even "moonlight" as a game console! As the late Steve Jobs said, it just works. Indeed, in his biography this was one of his last visions, he said "(he) finally cracked (Apple TV)" and everyone else followed his lead. Issues that won't cost it a star but should be called out: the biggest one by far being that it doesn't play nice with certain soundbars, but rather only the HomePod. While you can pair it up using bluetooth and it's easy enough, it has to be done every time you turn it on. (The included remote will control the volume once you do this, to be fair). Also being able to use an alphanumeric keyboard in certain apps (i.e, Xfinity, DirecTV) would be nice. Last, the remote scrollpad is very good but takes time to get used to with respect to rewinding live TV and such. At least to me. All that, said, don't let any of that stop you from getting this. As I said, there are configurations of sound equipment that will allow you to control the sound through the unit without bluetooth (mostly if the sound system matches your TV) and you can get tips all over the Internets. Again: it just works.

I live Apple TVs. I always get one for my family and friends. It’s easy to you and very convenient. It’s never failed me. It works smoothly and the quality is fantastic.

Best streaming device on the market. Nothing compares. Cleanest and fastest interface, no lagging and apps are always updated.

I have used Roku, Amazon fire sticks, and the smart tv features on a LG OLED. Nothing compares to the picture quality and speed of the apple 4k tv. It has really taken my LG OLED to a new level.

I purchased this because my 5 year old Sony TV was locking up on me every few days. Whatever updates, the TVs processer just couldn't handle it. The Apple TV not only solved the problem it actually improved the Video quality as well as the apps run much smoother and quicker. Very pleased with this product.

One of the best purchases I've made in awhile. I have a LG C1 OLED and while I love the TV the OS is sluggish. This turns an already amazing TV into a power house. If you are in the apple eco this device is tailor made for you. The extra features with apple watch and iPhone are amazing! 10/10 would recommend.

Just works out of the box. Simple interface and great quality.

I became interested in this device because of the ability to sync with my other Apple products. And I can use it as a hub of sorts. This means that because of how interconnected with streaming apps the TV device is, I can do a general search for a movie or show and I would find it 90% of the time. I even found shows from my youth that might be obscure, but there they were. I have a choice of viewing on the particular streaming app or directly on the Apple TV app. If there's no subscription to the streaming app, then I can buy or rent through Apple TV. Picture quality is good, depending on your setup. And the responsiveness and accuracy are excellent. The remote can be tricky to use at first but you get used to it. This is probably one of the best investments I have made in years.

We purchased the Apple TV 4K 3rd gen with Wi-Fi does everything we were looking for. Our old TV ( at least 10 y/o ) hooked up easily, we did need the HDMI cable. Picture is outstanding, and streaming is great. Other devices also work well with the Apple TV. Even spending the $ 100+ dollars made cutting the cord easy and cost effective! Thanks for your help Best Buy you had the device and cord we needed.

it is by far the best streaming box money can buy. excellent speed, user interface, and quality

Everything loads fast, no ads. Remote is awesome and automatically synced with my tv and soundbar, so it's the only remote I have to use anymore. It's by far the most expensive streaming device, probably not worth the money if you just need something that works. But if you want to spend the money, it's great to use.

As an apple user, this is probably the best addition to your TV set up. I love that I could use my phone as a remote, the remote itself has a button to use your voice, there is a button on the remote where you can swipe out of your current app and go see what other apps are open for easy interchangeable streaming it doesn’t really matter what generation you have the only thing to be aware of is a different charging ports for your remote.
