    Not Happy

I am not happy with the product. It is not 1080p and it doesn't offer as much as the Roku box. I have all Apple products in my home and this one doesn't come close to the standard of the other products. It is nice but not up to an Apple standard.

    Use only with Wireless

    Posted .

You expect more from Apple. This device ONLY works with secure wireless and NOT secure ethernet. At college that require a password to use their internet this device will NOT allow you to connect, as it is NOT programmed to ask for a password if Ethernet Cat5 cable is connected. Also has NO internal storage. So if you are renting from NetFlix, can only watch as streaming and if you have slow streaming FORGET IT!! With old model you could download to device and then watch after completed so you had a smooth movie experience. Let's hope the next Apple device fixes these problems.

Good streamings if you dont have game system

It works as advertised. Like most apple products, it is very user friendly. It has a better interface then playstation 3 for streaming netflix. If you already have a game system, I would skip it.

Now that I have a better receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX-50), there is no need for apple tv'. All of the uses for the apple tv are addressed either by airplay streaming or via usb connection. i

Not in full HD. Only 720p!!!

My HDTV comes with 1080p/120hz, so why would I want to see the Apple TV content in 720p/60hz??? Returning today after only one week of usage. Upgrade to 1080p, and I'll buy that version.

I found that the Apple TV is a great toy but not a must have item. There are other connnections on the market that do more. You still have the limitations by not being compatible with flash. I found that many of the internet videos or shows that I wanted to watch required the flash video service. It was very easy to connect but I did have to go back to the store twice to make sure that my Ipad would connect. Someday, it might be great but not now.

    keeps dropping itunes

itunes will play for about 30-40 minutes then abruptly drop itunes music. It loses the connection. I even have it wired!! I highly recommend going to the Apple Support Community discussion boards and Search "Home Sharing drop out with Apple TV2". There are over 20,000 views and over 200 replies with frustrated customers like me. I will monitor this review because I believe Best Buy sometimes removes bad ratings to boost their sales.

    Apple Dropped The Ball

It usually goes without question that apple makes great products, but with apple tv, they did the complete opposite. My biggest complaint I suppose is with the platform it runs on and not the device itself. I bought it to watch netflix videos, it rarely ever plays them. Sometimes the netflix tab is non existant. I have owned a roku for over a year before buying an apple tv, and the roku is by far a better product. Yes the apple tv has many features such as youtube (it's only redeeming quality) The abilty to set up with itunes and share content between itune compatible devices also new release movie rentals. Even with those 3 added features over the roku I would still recommend the second mentioned. Unless apple decides to fix the very apparent problem (look on any forum) and comes out with an update to remedy it, I would not recommend this product to any one. If they do fix it, to where it works with zero to little problems, it may be a contender in the online streaming to your tv world.

Cnet and I agree Roku is the way to go

Cnet did a shootout between all the streaming players including apple tv and roku beat them all. I agree with them. I took my Apple tv back the day i got it. No hulu plus, 720p not 1080p lacks channels. User interface isn't bad. Apple wants you to pay per episode as opposed to getting hulu plus. At a 1.00 per episode that adds up quick. As an apple fan this product is very disappointing. I replaced it with a roku player and am much happier.

If you plan on streaming video from your camera roll, This is NOT the product for you. It will let you stream pics via air play, but no camera roll videos are supported. Apple never ceases to amaze me with their rediculous restrictions. The only way to accomplish this is to jailbreak your iOS device and use a Cydia app.

    Very limited, very buggy, slow

Can only access Netflix, Youtube and other designated sites. No overall Internet access. Problems with a purchased itunes movie. Payed for it and it didn't work. It's slow - movies pause frequently. Finally, I had to restore and reset the device a number of times when it stopped accessing sites for no reason.

    Shame on you Apple

I am a long time Apple fan and user, I own iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, iMacs and did and still own the old Apple TV. Upgraded because I wanted to have the streaming from iPhone and iPad feature which inexplicably will not be available as a software upgrade to the old Apple TV. The streaming from my iMac on a 5GHz 802.11n wireless network is painful at best. An HD home movie about 2.2 GB in size takes 10 minutes of spooling before it starts. iTunes movies take FOREVER to download even in non-HD format. My old Apple TV could start a movie in minutes, this one says I have to wait 12 hrs. Can't have multiple movies stored for later viewing. Obviously this new Apple TV was meant for live streaming only on a very high speed internet connection. Don't bother if you have AT&T DSL, I will try with Comcast but so far it has been a very disappointing experience.

I purchased the Apple TV for my iPad 2. I was disappoinnted to find out after all the updates that it froze everytime I tried playing RealRacingHD2. It did the same thing on other games I tried to play. It is a good product for the other uses such as iTunes and Nexfilix, but for the iPad2 it stinks.

Product is slow to download movies from iTunes

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Apple TV is not good. Product is slow to download movies from iTunes. Also, cannot download more than one movie becuase not enough memory to store movie. Once download, you cannot start to download another movie becuase the one you just download will be lost and have to start over. It is slow to process movie. All this information is not identified in the booklet provided, you must experience on your own, read blogs on how AppleTV is not as advertised, or by calling an Apple tech that hasn't even used one tell you how to operate. Recommend no one buy the 2nd Gen until they fix a lot of things...this is the only Apple product I've used that sucks. I would just get a subscription with Netflix and download directly from them using your computer as the interface.

I bought this specifically for the Airplay feature for connecting my iPads to the plasma. It works sporadically at best. The freestanding TV features work as advertised but it is redundant for anyone with a wireless TV. The Airplay has been a major disappointment.

    Disappointing for Apple Product

We were really excited to try the latest and greatest thing from Apple...thought that Apple TV would be a great replacement for Netflix etc. While it does allow you to sync music, photos, etc. from your iPod and pc desktop, it is horrible in regards to renting any movies from the iTunes store. Even after upgrading our DSL to 6.0 mbs, it took 13 hours to download a movie...furthermore, upon going to play the movie after the download, it said that another 14 hours until it was ready to play! What?! This could potentially be a cool item, but pretty much a waste of 99 bucks if you can't even use the movie feature. Returning it.

    Horrible Product from Apple

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is first time I'm not happy with an apple product. It takes forever to stream movies from your iPhone or iPad. Screen mirroring also horrible. There is a lag of minimum 2 min. The streaming quality is very poor if you are sharing from iDevice. It works good if you use built in apps like YouTube. The bad part is if your Tv is more than 40inch, the picture quality is very poor. My router is 3 feet away from apple tv and still this is so horrible. If your router is away..I don't think screen sharing or streaming videos from your iDevice will be feasible at all. I don't recemmend this to anyone.

You guys need to stop and listen to me and that other person. He's right, this device is terrible. I own lots of products from apple and this is so far the worst device I've ever own in my life. I've been having the first gen 160gb and it is totally worth it than this, you can actually buy and own instead of just only able to rent really expensive movies. I got this as a bd gift cause my dad knows I'm a big apple collector so I felt really sorry for him and gave it back so he can return it. So do yourself a favor and just save up $50 extra and get the 1st gen apple tv you won't be disappointed.
