I had a hard drive going bad and upgraded to a bigger one. The Apricom was easy to install and worked flawlessly (the second time). On the first try, some files were missing so it wouldn't boot. I called Tech Support and they got right back to me with the solution and the second try was successful. I highly recommend the device.

Had a hard drive crash and was worried about retrieving information. Purchased this product with the hopes of being able to get it back on my own. Not a problem. Worked like a charm.

Once I found out I had a PATA drive I plugged it into the computer and could just drag and drop what I wanted to recover from my crashed old computer. Now thinking about using the old drive for backup.

I've only used this product on my deceased laptop so I can't comment on other uses. However, I was able to see everything on the laptop as if it were another drive. Great product and great value!

I've been able to salvage two computers using this tool. For the money it's saved me probably $500-$1000. The software is easy to use even when booting directly from the CD drive and I have had no errors, so far, that weren't MY FAULT for not having things connected properly.
NOTE: Be sure to test your connections before trying to clone your drive. The software will go through the entire cloning process before you'll know something didn't work right. Pay close attention to the progress bar and this won't end up taking 12 hrs for you to find out.

I just wanted to copy files off of a HD that was in a PC that had a bad power supply to a new PC. This worked perfectly. Hooked it up, browsed to the files I wanted and copied them over. same as if I had the docs on a flash drive or something.

I've only used it twice so far. Not enough experience with it yet. It hooks up easily enough, but if you are working with older IDE drives, the excess wires get in the way.

I have tried other types and this one is the best. having the ports laid out this way prevents damage to the drive or the unit. So the design is well thought out. Another plus is there are no drivers. linux, mac and windows all see it without a problem. It is also fast for a USB 2.0. i know there are faster ones on the market but for the money you cant beat this

I bought this to migrate my old hard drive to my new Mac. It was easy to set up, just drag and drop. It also allows me to use my old hard drive as a back up for my new computer.

I have used this adapter on all drive types many times since I'm an I.T. guy. This is better than most. Some adapters have too many cables you have to use but this one keeps the hardware needed to a minimum

Good device for cloning but...

I purchased this adapter for retrieving data from a Toshiba laptop hard drive (manufacturer is Fujitsu) that was running on Windows XP but recently crashed. This device is great for cloning purposes but not for reading and retrieving data from a hard drive. It is also possible that the hard drive may have gone bad, since during the transfer of data from the hard drive to another portable hard drive (Western Digital storage drive) I was getting reading error.
I would not return the adapter since I may have use for it in future. But for now, it did not serve my intended purpose.
If anyone knows how to retrieve data using this adapter please post here, thanks.

I have attempted to use this on several OS's and have not achieved any success. It seems as though something in the devices hardware is preventing it from being seen by the PC.

A must have tool.

If you regularly work on computers, this is a must have tool. It's like a Swiss Army knife for hard drives. It's easy to use and works on almost all PATA and SATA drives. Only a few older style PATA drives were incompatible due to their IDE and power pins being too close together. I didn't use the included software, but if it's like the software with their other products, it should be easy to use.

I have retrieved data from numerous hard drives using this device. You don't even need to remove the drive from the case. Remove the power cord to the computer, open the case, remove the drive cable and power cable, then attach the device to the hard drive. Attach the USB cable to a working computer, and the drive comes up. NOTE: sometimes I have had to attach the device's power cord directly to the drive rather that the device, but it works great.

Recovered old files like a champ

I had 3 old HDs from old Pentium PCs that I couldn't get to boot. Trying to clear the clutter, I recycled the cases and kept the drives out. But I was pretty sure one of the drives included files from an even OLDER PC, files I didn't have anywhere else but could use for a current project.
Even though the disks wouldn't boot in the old PCs, they ran fine when I used this device. No danger of using them for backup drives; they were 40gig, 120gig, and 150gig respectively. But getting the files I needed off of them was a piece of cake. I had thought about having a local PC shop do it, but it would have cost more than this device and they wouldn't have known to "pick and choose" what they saved. Worth EVERY penny.
