DO your research.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Pro cameras are great and the flexibility and picture are beyond compare to anything else out there. However, I live in a arctic environment. The camera batteries do not hold up in the cold (say below 20 degrees f) The cameras come back to life very vast when it warms up. That said, the older system that uses standard 123A batteries works great outside, we have hit -44 F.

Not bad, but has issues, and is NOT 1080p quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've been running a 6-camera system at our office for over a year now. The base station seems to lose internet connection for a brief moment every few hours. And with is absolutely not "1080p" resolution. Technically its horizontal and vertical IS 1920x1080 but its bitrate isn't even 1000kbps. The average/minimum for true 1080p quality is 8000kbps. This barely passes for 720p. I understand they are/were trying to keep the file sizes down, but based on my calculations, a 1TB Passport drive will hold over 500 days of footage across 4 cameras in high-traffic areas. Plus, as always, Netgear support is ridiculous and will nickel/dime you on "support fees" after their standard 2-3 month warranty. Even their $1200+ ReadyNAS units don't come with longer warranties...

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I paid for the annual subscription but recently found out that I've been also getting charged monthly on top of that for the past 6 months. Do some research and you'll see it's a common issue. I hate that the actual cameras are great because the customer service is absolutely the worst. I've been on the phone for over an hour with no resolution. This makes absolutely no sense. This company is robbing money through their subscriptions by double charging and making their customers jump through hoops to try to get a refund. I was told I need to go through all my card statements and screenshot every charge I've gotten from Arlo so they can "confirm" on their end. They already have my money on their records. Why do they need my statements to confirm?!?! Also, the app will kick your phone off geolocation if you have that setup. Good luck trying to get the location service to work again. I tried calling customer service multiple times about this after uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Every call will waste approximately 45 minutes or more of your life. This has happened to me exactly 13 times so far. I even tried using a different base station. Bottom line, STAY AWAY FROM ARLO. It really is a shame because the hardware is great when it works. It's just that when a company can't support their hardware with good customer service it might as well be useless.

Totally Unreliable!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an absolute joke of a security system. Do not buy if you actually want to have cameras that function. I have tolerated this unreliable system for at least two years. Mainly because I have already invested so much into it, and I have yet to find another system that I feel would be more reliable. My first upset was when one of the cameras failed shortly after the warranty expired. The camera would power on, but it would not connect, or show any video. A chat with customer service was equally frustrating. They basically said sorry, the camera is not under warranty, so have a nice day. A security camera should not fail within a year. Second, the cameras routinely go offline. Of course, there is no notification that your cameras are not working, they just stop recording, until they magically reset themselves, or you manually power them down, and restart. This is not an easy task since these cameras are designed to be mounted where they get the best video, and not where they are easy to access. Now, the real kick in the teeth was when I recently when on vacation for a week. I made sure to install fresh batteries before I left. I verified that all the cameras were working, and I left my house. About 6 hours later I decided to check the cameras. To my utter disbelief the entire system was offline. That means no cameras are recording anything. Since I was so far away, I could not go back and reset the base station. There is no way that I can find to remotely force a restart. So my fancy Arlo cameras were nothing more than an expensive decoration for an entire week. I have tried nearly everything to improve the reliability of this garbage, and nothing seems to work. The base station is about 5 feet from one camera, and yet, that camera still shuts down at random times. There is no reason to buy anything from Arlo. The reliability is just not there. Considering this is a security camera system, it is absolutely unacceptable that these cameras are so unreliable. They should rename this system to Murphy's Law Cameras. Anytime you need these cameras to work, is the exact time them choose to shut down.

Not worth the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off these are not easy to set up due to the delay. Mounting them is very simple, but you are basically hanging them onto one very small and short screw. Setting them up is time consuming and frustrating. What you are seeing is not real time, there is at the least a 1.5 minute delay. It took me a ridiculous amount of time to get my two cameras set up even using their Camera Positioning option which is supposed to limit the delay - it didn't hlep. The magnetic mounts do not give a lot of flexibility as far angles. If you want flexibility you will need to purchase their other mounts. So you have to stand and wait for minutes to see exactly what the camera is pointing at, each time you move it you have to wait for the "delay". It takes a long time to connect and then buffer for live view (I have two other brand of cameras that don't take nearly as long, so it is not my internet). I have one of my cameras pointed directly at my driveway and it has yet to capture me getting into my car and pulling out of the driveway or pulling into the driveway (I've had it for a few days now), but has no problem capturing cars passing by on the street - my entire driveway is in view!! I am very disappointed in these cameras. Also, in order to use their motion zones, you have to be plugged into a power adapter, making their claim of being wireless not completely accurate!! I figured these would be worth the price since I wouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription to record. I also have the Ring Doorbell and Spotlight Cam but wasn't really happy with how they perform and you have to pay a subscription for each device so I thought I would try the Arlo. I could not be more disappointed. I also have a CamHi which I only paid $35.00 for and it is actually a great cameras for the price, the night vision is in color and the picture quality is great, they connect almost instantly when I click on live view and there is little to no delay in the feed, the only downsize to these is that they are not battery operated so in order to place them outdoors (they are designed for outdoor use), I would need to position them near a power source. I am seriously considering taking the Arlo back to the store. I DO NOT recommend these at all. If you are on the fence, save your money, your time, the hassle. These are not worth the high price.

Under no circumstances should you buy these camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo used to be owned by Netgear, at which point they were tolerable. In August of 2018 Netgear sold off Arlo as a public company. In older Arlo, Arlo Pro and Arlo 2 systems they were sold with the promise that you could have up to 5 cameras that came with FREE cloud storage for a week's worth of recordings. If you wanted more, there was a subscription service available that would let you add more than 5 cameras, and 30 days worth of cloud storage. Since then the new owners have decided that the no longer wish to honor the original Netgear terms. Slowly over time they began to release crippled firmware updates that didn't offer any new features or fix any old problems. In fact quite the opposite. New firmware versions brought back old problems that had previously been fixed. The quality of the recordings suffered as a result, and Arlo Tech support became nothing more than a bunch of script readers, always blaming the customers for issues that Arlo themselves created. Now with this latest April 2020 firmware update, they have lowered the compression of cloud recordings from 1080, down to less than 400. The result is recordings that are so pixelated that these legacy systems are now useless as security devices. They didn't do this to any of their newer, paid subscription customers. The CEO himself has admitted, in a released statement, that they are moving towards "ending these legacy products". "..“While subscription conversion rates on our legacy business model hovered around 5%, early data indicates that the estimated subscription conversion rates for the new business model is around 50%, five zero and we're expecting a substantially lower churn rate. This order of magnitude increase in subscription attach rates will transform the business as Arlo continues to end of life legacy products that include free storage, and introduces new products that incorporate the new business model..." Buyer beware. These legacy systems are now useless, but still being sold.

ARLO CAMERA FAILS 1 YEAR AFTER WARRANTY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here is my take on Arlo Pro Cameras DON'T BUY THEM!!! Here are my reasons why: app doesn't load all the time, website is always down or says you need updating, And the BIGGEST come to find out just after 1 YEAR WARRANTY, EXPIRES -AND MY CAMERA FAILS and there is no repair support! I even offered to pay to have it fixed and was told there a throw away CAMERA system!! They do not repair anything they just throw them away! but if under warranty they will replace them with new ones! SO BOTTOM LINE ALL THE MONEY YOU SPEND TO BUY THEM IS ONLY GOOD FOR 1 YEAR!!!!!

Great concept, works well until it doesn't
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would love to rate these things higher, and when they work, they work well. However, Netgear support is just inept. They push mandatory firmware updates that shut your cameras down willy-nilly. Once you reboot the cameras and the hubs and finally get things working again (hard to do if you're not home) you discover functionality that broke with the update. When you call support you spend a good while convincing them there really IS a problem. Then it gets "escalated" into oblivion.

Unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it works on occasion but since this is a security camera reliability is paramount and this camera is very unreliable even compared to some of my cheap Chinese Amazon wifi security cameras. Other negative is that it constantly goes offline and you need to remove them take back to the base and delete them and then re-add them and even that is hit and miss and takes multiple tries and a couple hours for 4 cameras. Do not waste your time or money.

Very poor battery life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very poor battery life. I’m getting about three weeks battery life and net gear scammed me for $99 technical service fee to tell me I needed to buy a new battery. Netgear’s customer service is extremely frustrating and they do not support this camera well. Do not buy this camera.
