Here are my thoughts on the device. 5 Stars for Setup - can't get any easier than this. 5 Stars for complete wireless setup - absolutely no wires 3 Stars for wireless distance good reception, works well up to 50-60 feet, after that connection drops quickly so does video quality. 3 Stars for video quality, I would not call high-definition 1 Stars for field of view - states 130, but real world view is 90 two cameras barely cover 180 - see pictures 1 Stars for dependable recording - you must have a good internet connection that is up all the time - ONLY records to the internet, nothing local, if Internet is down, so is your monitoring. 0 Stars for other use - these cameras will only work if you have an arlo account, internet access, and the cameras connect to the base. 0 Stars for motion recording - motion recording only sets off when action crosses FOV, delay from motion to start of record, usaully equals activity has already moved out of FOV, or just get few of activity. 0 Stars for more than 5 cameras - you can only record to the cloud, more than 5 cameras you have to pay subscription. 0 Stars for monitoring - cannot actively monitor without running the batteries down very quickly. NO 4 camera constant monitoring, unless you want to spend $25 on batteries every 2 days. 0 Stars for simutaneous monitoring and recording - if you or someone else is viewing the camera feed live, it will not record any motion detection, the viewer would need to select record. 1 Stars for logging and viewing - takes about 2 minutes to get to live video feed. Far to slow to catch something in realtime 0 Stars for stated battery life - based on using the lowest video setting and very limited motion detection (5 mins per day)- no one ever would buy a HD camera only to reduce it the lowest settings. 4 Stars for Indoor Battery life, these perform well in a constant temprature. 0 Stars for Outdoor Battery perfomance indication, well below freezing tempratures, batteries will quickly report low or out. Must climb ladder, and re-seat batteries, to reset low battery warning. 2 Stars for Outdoor Battery life, iinstalled in Mar where temps -0 Batteries have lastest 1 month in a camera effected by pet traffic. 2nd camera seems to be holding up ok, 2 months. I have tried multiple WiFi Cameras, these work comparitively well, much easier to setup and use. After trying many WiFi cameras was going just bit the bullet and get a lorex, swan, or q-see system, then saw the Arlo. Wish I just went with my original choice of a wired system. This system is perfect for the NON-serious security monitoring. Not meant to replace a video recording system.

The batteries only lasted only 4 months rather than the advertised 12 months. Finding the settings for motion detection is difficult and triggers many times from something that does not appear in the recording.

The system is very easy to hook up and set up but kind of hard to figure out how to adjust how long to record and the distance to start recording. It seems like they should kick on a little faster and start recording faster than they do and a lot of times I get a blur picture sometimes it doesn't even show me moving so I'm not real sure yet still learning, but they are very easy to install and have a great picture when it works right ( I would like to know if I can still go over and get the two year replacement on the extra camera I bought on January 22, 2017 or is it too late? )

Read lots of reviews as we wanted a reliable home monitor for recent burglarys in the neighborhood. It is reliable, but not what I expected. It is difficult to setup, causes frequent false alarms, and picture quality is good but not great. We have weird schedules so its hard to use the automated system, but we rarely remember to turn it on manually. There are times when the object it picks up to start recording is back out of the picture by the time it starts recording, so you see nothing. My biggest disappointment is the HUGE table top router it requires to run and must be hard wired to your network. I also cant figure out why Netgear does not offer other home security equipment like door/window sensors or sirens that can be added on to the Arlo wireless system. You would have to buy yet another hub to operate additional security systems. The fact that this camera system was completely wireless is what sold us. I would hold off to see if they develop a better system with more add on equipment in the future, which they would have to do to compete with Samsung and iSmart systems. At this point we just use it to monitor the kitty when we are away, and there are cheaper/better options available for that purpose. C'mon Netgear, you can do better.

SOME EXCELLENT FEATURES - SOME NOT SO GOOD

We purchased this wireless system (4 pack) in order to monitor our driveway particularly at night and the long side of our home, front and back. Here's what good and not so good. I would not rebuy this particular system and would spend more money to get better features, but it meets my husbands needs. GOOD THINGS 1) 100% Wireless - you just need a internet router with an OPEN / unused Ethernet port, preferably using a faster connection like mid to higher speed cable. The Netgear Router plugs into your Internet Router. The cameras connect wirelessly to the Netgear Router. 2) Easy setup up router and cameras. Easy installation outside -- But only 1 of the type of mounts that allows for 360 rotation. The other 3 are magnets with limited rotation. We had to buy 3 more of the better ones for another $25++. Weatherproof is a plus. 3) Excellent HD daytime pictures. Good nighttime pics when you can get them. Great viewing from inside house on PC. 4) Easy phone and PC app to turn on, off, and manager cameras from home PC, your phone (download a free ap) or afar. Independently turn on or off the cameras or change settings. No audio. 4) the 1GB / mo is FREE online storage of vids. Can adjust camera sensitivity and others things inside. NOT SO GOOD 1. These cameras must be within 8 - ~ 10 or 12 feet of the motion at NIGHT for the weak IR sensors to go off and record nighttime activity. Thus, despite trying all the suggestions on their site, the camera which is mounted about 12 feet up doesn't pick up motion below it at night and so it doesn't turn on. If you turn up sensitivity, doesn't help but does drain the expensive batteries faster. Does a great job during the day and a long distance. We see clearly at least up to 50 - 100 feet during the day. You CAN go in phone or PC and turn on any one of the cameras for a live view day or night, but that's not picking up anyone in your driveway automatically at night unless they are within a very close range. Some people say you can get an extra IR light in the 850nm range to help -- but really? Why not just spend more in the first place for better night vision distance. 2. THE DELAY TIME from when a moving objects ENTERS into the field of view of the cameras to the START of recording is WAY TO LONG _ up to 10-20 seconds. This is BIG, especially if someone darts across the field of view - the camera does NOT pick them up. Even when I pull car into the drive, get out, walk about 40 feet up to my steps to enter the house, the camera only starts recording after 20 secs of of my first entering the driveway and camera field of view. Turning up the cameras sensitivity doesn't help this delay time much and it drains the batteries. You can't use rechargeable batteries in here and they are CR123A's. Knock offs aren't good because of the heat, so you must pay the price for 4 ea per camera to replace and they are not cheap. The delay time -- Intruders or vandals don't hang out long outside in one spot -- so this to me is very unacceptable. It's OK for my husband who really just likes the phone ap, and live look features best. Anyway - bottom line -- good price on the system. I would have spent more now and also gotten a WIRED system with faster response time and better night vision now that I understand how poor the night vision IR works and how long the delay is and how fast the batteries will drain. Mine will last about 3 mons per camera i figure. My hubby finds these OK for the price. Depends on what you're looking for in a system. They are one of the few that offers a FREE 1G /mo cloud service with no monthly fee.

I like that its wireless and super easy to setup. From start to finish installing base router + two cameras it took me just under 2 hours. Would have taken less if cameras worked at original angles. Leading into what I don't like. I didn't like that camera best picks up motion from the side vs head on. Creating slight challenge when placing cameras. I also don't like that the camera records 10 seconds of motion, which is delayed by 3-5 seconds. You can make up for this by loading the app to view live motion, but the alerts you get on your device are only 10 seconds. I need at least 30 and can't find adjustments in settings. For roughly $100 per camera and the simple slwireless setup, this product will serve its purpose, as I use it to know when kids are home while I'm at work. The mobile app and alerts sent to my phone when motion is triggered & being able to turn/on and off with my smart phone is intuitive. I just wish it had a few more features on capturing more than 10 seconds of delayed motion? Perhaps that's what you get if you sign up for Arlos premium monthly subscription. From what I gather, the subscription just gives you more than 7 days of stored motion recording. (Which the average user doesn't need) If this review helped, mark it below. Thanks!

They are really great cameras. Completely wireless, powered by batteries.Very clear during the daytime, night time views are ok as long as you make sure nothing interferes with the lens, if you have the lens facing outside thru a window there will be a glare which will make your view distorted. The Cameras are a little pricey at 499.00 for 4 cameras and the batteries go dead very fast and they are about $10.00 a piece to replace. I would recommend only because of ease of use as far as cost a wired system would be a better value.

These are not bad cams - they're not full HD, and there's no audio. The setup is pretty painless, but the range isn't the greatest. Also, the battery life will vary greatly depending on the temperature you have. Colder climate is going to pull them down faster. You can only have 5 cams on a single account for the "free" monitoring; anything more, you either have to have a 2nd account or pay a subscription fee. At the price point these cameras are at, you can do better. Both these and the Arlo PRO series cams are pretty overpriced for what you get, especially with the new options such as Amazon, Ring, and the like. The main thing these have going for them is that they're easy to set up and no wires. If you have a smaller house/apartment, these are probably awesome. My house is 3000 square feet and I have weak signal on the cameras on the back of the house, so not so great for me.

The Arlo cameras seem like a qualty product, but it has a lot of flaws that are quite disappointing at the price point. The 720 picture is great during the day and the zoom features are great. The app works well, the setup is easy, and they've functioned very well despite the sub zero temperatures. However these things suck down juice if you don't constantly manage them by either deactivating the whole system or individual cameras when you don't need them. The mounting hardware is laughable. They really only come with one mount, the other small magnetic "mounts" are only good for placing the camera looking straight downwards, it can't support the cameras weight at any angle without pivoting. The magnet within the actual camera is quite strong and I actually just use that on an acceptable surface instead of the "mounts". The night vision is pretty awful, the motion detection is annoying (even though its calibratable) and constantly going off for no reason. Because of this, I'd say get the Arlo Pro if you can afford it.

Good: Easy to set up. I like the wireless. Easy to move one inside if you want to record the dogs, etc.. Bad: The motion detection is intermittent at best. It wont record my wife backing out of the driveway, but will then record me leaving. It might catch a car drive by, but wont record the mail man. In my opinion its not very safe if you cant rely on the camera to record ALL motion. Whats the point when the one time someone breaks into your car, the camera doesn't record the motion.......... Original battery life lasted less than 3mos. You can turn down the motion sensitivity so it doesn't record as much, but again, whats the point if you cant record all motion.......

    Can Be Perfect

This is definitely the a great compliment to your home security system. Its wireless. It records to a cloud. Its small. They can easily be moved from one spot to another, very flexible. Battery life is decent. I have a couple of months and batteries are still full. Easy set-up. FREE cloud storage for up to 5 cameras. Clear images. Motion sensing. Weatherproof. Now for some cons....motion detection timing for the camera to start recording can be iffy at times. Sometimes the recording starts several seconds too late. Its sort of a trial by error. You really need to have the camera in a good spot and play with the settings. When you can get it to near a perfect set-up its awesome. Not everyone can get the system to their needs. Night Vision is only 15ft but even thats a far stretch. The recording is helped best if the camera was positioned where there is light in the area. Now I'm speaking of experience while using these as outdoor cameras of course. I've been having issues with the Web UI viewing the cameras, however the mobile apps work perfectly. Appears I'm not the only one having the issue with the Web UI either based on the forums I've seen, however Netgear appears to be working on it. They have been good at releasing updates however but am still waiting for this fix. Overall its a good compliment to a home security system. I like it because it works for me and I don't have to run wires throughout my house. To me, the positives outweight negatives but its different for everyone. I do recommend however.

I'm having mixed feelings about this system. The concept is great! A truely wireless system that is very simple to setup. Install and setup only took a matter of minutes. The image quality is far better than others on the market. The motion detection and alerts are pretty consitant. However here's where the issues are. Netgear has been great but I truly think this product was released too soon. Hopefully most of these bugs get worked out for later users. First one camera image kept turning red. Netgear replaced it for me. Second two of the cameras went dead within a week and had to replace batteries. Once replaced they worked fine, but only after buying 8 new batteries. These cr123's aren't cheap. Netgear said it was an update issue. Third is the scheduling and app settings. If you for any reason your base losses power or resets for an update all your settings are lost. Netgear's been great, but the issues still pop up.

Setting the cameras up, mounting the cameras, connecting to router, downloading the app and syncing cameras was easy. All was done in about 30 minutes. Was happy with the system until after 3wks of use I receive an app alert telling me the batteries are low. It uses 4 of the 123A type batteries which I didn't know are very expensive. Total was about $28 plus tax for each camera and I have two cameras. When researching before purchasing this security system, I couldn't find any reviews that mentioned battery life. One of the techs at Best Buy told me they last between 4-6 months which is why I purchased. I recommend the camera system but with the warning that the batteries are expensive to replace and there is no way to hardwire the cameras to direct power.

Purchased four pack of cameras; one would not sync to the base. Had to pay for shipping to return back to Arlo. The cameras are not quick enough to pick up motion on a low motion detection setting (they will start recording almost once the subject is out of frame). On a high motion setting it is easy to get 40 recordings of trees moving within a couple hours (annoying if you have alerts coming to your phone). There isn't a good balance. I also had trouble setting up timing for the cameras to come on and off, so I do this manually. The set up is really easy (if all your cameras work). Get alerts to your phone, and store on the cloud. They take lithium batteries, so they work without wires. The cameras are small and lightweight. Good video quality. If you have problems, you only get 90 day phone support with Arlo, and then they charge you. In my opinion, they are too expensive for what they are.

The best feature in this camera is the wireless. The second best is the battery life. The features I do not like include the motion sensor sensitivity. I wish there was something to adjust it because chipmunks, bees, and garbage trucks across the street set this thing off. Overall though, good quality in daylight, but mediocre night vision. You essentially need a porch light or some outdoor flood light to illuminate or the camera would never be able to clearly picture an intruder or trespasser at night.

Cameras and cloud server are good for the price you pay. 4 cameras that are wireless with the only draw back being the batteries. Be forwarded the camera uses CR123 batteries which for a pack of 12 are $30 at various stores. The app is easy to navigate, it's easy to add cameras and sync them. However if you do plan on using this as a primary security camera you need to set the schedule on the app. If you have a typical schedule (9-5) then it's for you. If you have a crazy schedule with people coming and going constantly, your batteries will constantly be running low. Until Arlo adds a feature on their app that recognizes individual devices (your phones) and can deactivate once the device is within range so you don't waste battery life this is not a feasible system.

Pros: It's completely wireless. Battery life, it has been a month and batteries are still above 90% life. The video clips are stored in the cloud and you get 7 days of storage for free. Cons: cameras activate with motion and sometimes they don't detect the motion (ex. It always activates when my car leaves or enters the garage but today it didn't) so you cannot really trust that the cameras will activate and record. After a month one camera turned the image red, I contacted contact support and they sent me a 'new one' for free but I had to pay for the shipping of the defective one back to them ($17).

Batteries drain way to fast, each camera takes 4 and they cost about $7 each. I have for less than 2 months and have had to replace all of them already. Night vision mode doesn't really work. Only catches things right up on it , everything out a few feet is too dark. Motion detection is nice but too hard to get settings right. setting it on 80 it will catch too much, drop it all little to 75 and it misses too much.

This camera is pretty good but it could be much better with a few fixes. The good: completely wireless, decent picture, great app, small footprint. The bad: magnetic mount-extra $20 Dollars for a real mount, no audio, runs on expensive batteries. I can deal with the first two issues but the battery is its Achilles heel. Granted, there are settings that you can adjust to prolong battery life but in the end it renders the camera useless to just 10 second clips not enough to be a true dedicated surveillance solution for me. If they fix the battery issue with perhaps a large capacity rechargeable battery, this camera would in my opinion be the best wireless surveillance camera right now.
