When we moved into our house in 2012, we decided we need to add in some security cameras. We didn’t want a complicated installation and we wanted something we could access from our phones. And so we were led to Arlo cameras. They are some of the best wireless security cameras available. Set-up Setting up this system is quite easy. You start by downloading the Arlo app and plugging in the hub. Then, you make sure your cameras are charged. This set comes with a charging stations, which is a HUGE plus. Past Arlo cameras had to be charged using a proprietary cable that I lost more than once. The charging station really sells this bundle for me. Once you have the cameras charged, you add them to the app and then setup all your settings. The app is pretty easy to use and there is even a dashboard where you can add your favorite cameras to the view. The thing I don’t like is all the built-in ads from Arlo. There is a banner on the home dashboard page that constantly changes. The banner just cycles through different Arlo offers. It’s very annoying and keeps me from using the app more. Fortunately, Arlo provides the option to connect to Apple Home so I view the cameras through that app quite a bit. That’s pretty much it for set-up. Once the cameras are connected, you can set up your routines and Arm settings. Daily Use I have these cameras placed in various areas around my house. One camera is set up in my living room; one is on my backyard fence; and the third is in my front yard. I feel like these are the areas I need to view the most and have the least visibility. I haven’t really had an issue with connecting to the cameras although it can be a little slow. Aside from the connection speed, the video quality is very good. I can zoom into a subject that was captured on the camera and be able to see exactly what it is. The night vision feature is very helpful since we have a lot of activity at night from our local wildlife. Conclusion The Arlo camera system has been a dependable part of our home security setup. It’s easy to install, offers clear video quality, and provides the flexibility to monitor everything from a phone. The convenience of wireless operation, the included charging station, and strong night vision make these cameras a smart, reliable choice for everyday home protection.

Comes with 3 – 4K resolution cameras, 4 batteries (so 1 extra), a double battery charger, 2 magnetic mounts, 1 stick mount, 1 base station for connectivity with a micro SD slot for optional local video recording storage, and a Arlo security yard sign and window sticker. Setup was pretty easy but I’ve already had an Arlo camera before and was familiar with the Arlo app. Adding the cameras was quick, but I did have a glitch with the initial firmware update for each of the cameras (Solution was just to remove the batteries once or twice in each camera and then the firmware update ran). Also tip for prior Arlo users – if you had an old base station: In the app - remove the cameras that are connected to it, remove the old base station, and then add the new base station first and then add old/new cameras to the new base station. Other than figuring out best order to do things and get firmware updated everything else was a breeze to add cameras and configure. The ultra 3’s battery life is estimated at 6 months so looking forward to only recharging 2-3 times a year. The dual battery charger is nice and they also have USB C ports on them now for wired charging/operation. I’ve had issues with the proprietary charger not working 100% of the time in the past, so this is a nice upgrade (and 1 less proprietary cable to keep track of). 4k image quality is very good. The night vision isn’t military grade or anything, but does work and each camera also has a light that will come on when motion detected that helps with a better recording. Activity zones work well for defining specific areas you want to record like only recording objects in your driveway, your yard etc. I have mine set to not include a palm tree as it’s fronds waving in the wind would normally trigger a recording constantly. The mounts are easy to hang (1 screw for magnetic and 3 screws for stick mount). Both allow for good camera angling options. I prefer the magnetic mounts as it makes it very easy to quickly remove for charging. We have a 3 story house (about 2600 sq. ft) and cameras all connected fine even in the back of the house through multiple rooms and walls away from the router/base station that it in a room in the front of the house. All in all a nice upgrade and fairly quick and easy setup.

This was the easiest setup on a security system I’ve ever done. I’ve setup many for others over the years. The base unit and app make it extremely easy and versatile. The AI discrimination between animals and human signatures is outstanding. Hardest part was mounting the tracking camera in the garage, which works flawlessly. Night vision mode is also extremely useful and clear.

If you have read any of my previous reviews regarding wireless security system you already know that I am not a big fan. Call me old school but I always have and will always be a fan of wired security systems even though setting them up may be a pain in the butt, initially. Well today we are looking at the new Arlo Ultra 3 – Camera 4K HDR Battery Powered system that comes with a dual charging base, 4 batteries, 2 magnetic mounts, 1 screw-in mount, a central hub and a yard sign. While I am not a big fan of wireless systems, Arlo almost had me but then they didn’t. So, let’s go what Arlo has to offer and what it does not. The Good: Setup: First and foremost, the setup process. The setup process for this Arlo system is a breeze to be honest. I had my first camera setup within 15 minutes, and I would have had it setup faster but there were some updates on the Hub and the Cameras themselves which took a few minutes each. You will need to download the “Arlo Secure” app. Once that is done, you will need to setup the Hub, which is just simply plugging it into your router and then connecting the power, the Hub will do the rest. Once the Hub is connected, you can start setting up the cameras. The Hub will detect the cameras once you power them on and start connecting them one by one. 4K HDR Image Quality: The image quality of these cameras is superb. The images are crisp and sharp, and the colors look natural, and you can easily zoom in to get faces and plates if needed without any pixelation regardless of indoor or outdoor use. The cameras offer a pretty solid field of view of about 180 degrees, wide enough to cover most of the front or rear of the house if centrally placed. The cameras also offer good night vision mode but also have a built in powerful led spotlight to light up the night. Local Storage: I am always a big fan of being able to locally store my footage so that was a plus for this system. The Hub has a MicroSD slot built in under the base so that you can locally store your footage. The Bad: Setup: Yes, these cameras are a breeze to setup and place pretty much wherever you like, but you have to keep in mind you can’t really place them where you like because you will have to place them within your reach because you have to swap out batteries, that also means that they are within reach of anyone in your area and being on a magnetic mount, making them easy to steal. Secondly, an issue that I also encountered with the Arlo Ultra, is the distance. Now you really place them too far from the Hub, because the farther you go, results in image degradation and delayed notifications. There was also a significant delay between the camera and the live video feed, and I am not even on a big lot, just your standard suburban house and yes, I have plenty of bandwidth and a strong mesh signal to support the cameras but that did not help. Battery Life: The battery life on the Arlo Ultra is not bad, but your battery life will depend on sensitivity, activity and notifications of the camera. Now, where I live, being in a suburban neighborhood there is a fair amount of foot and vehicle traffic in the area. So, I was left with a decision to sacrifice battery life, switch out batteries often, or adjust my area of coverage. The dual charging base does make charging batteries easier, but you still have to take the camera down and swap out the battery. Features: These cameras offer some great features that I have yet to see on any other security cameras that I have tested such as automatic fire detection and 24/7 emergency response. But what good is that feature when they are hidden behind a subscription plan. Again, I may be old school, but I don’t believe in paying extra every month for something that I have already paid for. Yes, you can use the camera system and store you recordings locally but would need to subscribe to a “Secure Plan” if you would like the 24/7 response, person and vehicle detection, fire detection and or custom detections. Final Thoughts: The Arlo Ultra wireless security camera definitely make installation simple, provides better placement options and gives you great picture quality, but all that in my opinion comes at a catch. The first catch is hands on management for swapping out batteries and making you have good placement depending on your Wi-Fi signal and the second catch is that most of good features of this camera are hidden behind, in my opinion, an expensive subscription plan and for those reasons I would not recommend this system to anyone.

Setup was easy and the cameras connected to the app without issues. The 4K video looks super clear during the day and at night. I like the dual charging station since it keeps spare batteries ready. The yard sign was a nice bonus too. Some features require a subscription, which I wish was included for the price. Overall, it’s a solid system and I feel much safer having it installed.

Excellent cameras. Much better upgrade with not having to use regular batteries. Rechargeable batteries great. Charge last a lot longer than regular batteries. Vision clear.

This is my second arlo system. I still have pro cameras from 2015 and still work. I tried Eufy for my new house, but found arlo was just better. I went away from Eufy because their app does not allow you to pause and move through frames if needed. Eufy's app just would glitch and skip to the end, making you sit and watch the whole video to see a specific thing. The pros of arlo are great battery life and I was able to repurpose old cameras to my new system. The homebase is nice for local storage and no subscriptions needed. I will say a negative for arlo is the customer support is difficult to get a hold of, unless you have their subscription. I found this out when I ordered something else from their website and tried to return. I am going to weeks for my return since receiving tracking showing they received the item. Other than that I high recommend their products.

These cameras work exactly as expected and have been a solid purchase. Setup is fast, and assembly is genuinely quick—no unnecessary steps or fiddly parts. Most of the process is easy and self-explanatory, so you can get up and running without digging through a complicated manual. Once installed, performance has been reliable and consistent. Overall, they deliver good value, save time on installation, and feel like a straightforward, well-designed product I’d buy again.

Really happy with this camera set! Super easy to install, the video looks super clear, and I can check everything from my phone in seconds. Battery life’s great too, totally worth it!
Great quality video , easy to install i like the detection alerts

The software is glitchy. Expanding video of a camera feed on a mobile device locks the image in place with no other means of exiting off the video than exiting out of the app completely on your phone. Even though you have the option of purchasing a micro mini card that can be inserted into the base of the router for local video storage backup, the purchase of a monthly plan is required in order to utilize all functionality of the app. When not purchasing the subscription, remotely reviewing video feed of a possible incident while you are away is an impossibility.

I can't say enough positive things about the Arlo system. We first bought an Arlo system for a remote cabin a few years ago, so we sort of knew what we were getting, but the cameras have greatly improved. These offer outstanding clarity, easily adjustable motion sensitivity, and the app is awesome. Another nice thing is how simple it is to add to the system if you want to. We added an Arlo flood light/camera to this system, which took all of 5 minutes to do. Highly recommend, and would definitely purchase again.

Very nice product. Magnetic mounts are very helpful for temporary placement for rodent control. Quality is real nice. Never new I had so many animals in my yard at night!
