If you enjoy the others, you'll like this one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Admittedly, Army of Darkness is my least favorite in the Evil Dead trilogy. I'm a horror guy, but these movies get cornier as they go on. That said, Ash is a character, and it's worth having to complete the saga.

NOT EVIL DEAD 3 BUT STILL FUN!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure why creator Sam Raimi took to change film into complete comedy after the epic EVIL DEAD that scared people when it was released, but still Funtime at the movies!

Been waiting for this version
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been an Evil Dead fan for as long as I can remember. If you're a fan and haven't purchased this movie yet then this is the copy to pick up. This is the ultimate collection of this film. I don't think they can cram anymore bonus footage/ additional footage unless there's an additional commentary track but I don't think that'll happen. Frankly I have 4 different mediums of this film and many other franchises. This collection has 4 versions of the film; Theatrical 81 minutes (1.85:1) Director's Cut 96 minutes (1.78:1) International Cut 88 minutes (1.78:55) and the Television Version 90 minutes with additional footage (1.33:1). I have only managed to watch the theatrical and the directors cut. It's somewhat refreshing to watch and something new has popped up from the added footage. Great collector's set for die hard fans but if you already own the screwhead edition and don't really care for picture quality, additional footage and enjoy the film for what it is save your money when the entire trilogy to be released with all the bells and whistles.

The (To Date) Definitive AoD Release
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though forgotten on release, epic cult status over the years has been garnered by the third installment of The Evil Dead franchise. AoD marks a stark stray from the first two, though from 1 to 2, you can see this progression -- from pure horror (and a little depravity) to comic action/adventure. The results are satisfying, and not much is lost for new fans jumping in on this third act without prior film viewings. Good transfers and a bevy of features make this the definitive release of AoD, though with all the variations before (and more to come!), it could ultimately be forgotten in the cannon of AoD releases. For the time being, it's "Groovy"!

Great movie, average package
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of my favorite crazy films of all time, so judging by the pure fun and enjoyment I get out of watching it I could rate this as Excellent. However, the disk has almost no extras. Also I prefer the Director's Cut which should have been the version released on Blu-ray. The picture is fantastic though, practically leaping off the screen at times, which is good and bad in that sometimes you can see clearly that the backgrounds (for instance) are matte paintings, etc. which isn't the fault of the makers of the disc. Overall it's a so-so package for a great, fun movie, even if it's not the best version of it. If it eventually comes out on Blu-ray, purchase the Director's Cut! If you don't the deadites will swallow your soul!

Great movie x 3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this is just a great, funny movie. I think I'd watch a movie with Bruce Campbell just sitting in a chair doing nothing. I think in this day and age the horror aspect of the movie won't seem scary but it is cool to watch. These discs have a lot of extras. I LOVE behind the scenes documentaries so I would have bought those by themselves. There are problems on discs 1 and 3 that will mean the company will replace them for you soon. If you email them at info shoutfactory com (make sure to put an at and dot in the right places) they will put you on a list for the program.

A tribute to the Sinbad movies
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4 of 5 stars for the ah ah sci-fi? action? fantasy movie Army of Darkness. I first looked at the cover art and read the liner notes and thought "here we go with a real-B movie, sigh". I started watching and it was funny and interesting. Watching the Blu-Ray I was really impressed with the image quality--super sharp and clear, it looked almost like video rather than film. So early-on, I'm thinking this is a spoof movie, but no, it was a straight fantasy/comedy movie. Then it hit me! This is a tribute to the Ray Harryhousen movie (Sinbad). Then I noticed this movie has everything from stop-action creatures, alot of rubber suits and alot of real models of creatures. Yeah, some CG, but not much. It really has the look and feel of the old Sinbad movies. The plot is of a "S-mart" sales guy getting transported to the 1300's to fight against Deadites and recover an artifact book. Bruce Campbell did an outstanding job in the lead role. This movie was a pleasure to watch. Stupid comedy in places, old-style effects, silly quest and it is all fun fun fun! This is on my watch-it-again list.

This here is my BOOMSTICK!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Part 3 of the Evil Dead series, Army of Darkness is a great film, unlike Evil Dead this movie isn't scary at all. And similar to Evil Dead 2 with its comedy, but again nothing scary here. Although i wanted horror, i wasn't disappointed at all here. Army of Darkness continues the story of Ash, the man chosen to save the world from the Deadites. A wonderful addition to this cult series, and should not be missed. Watch Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 before checking this one out so you won't be wondering how and why Ash got to where he is now in the story.
