Easy setup, user friendly. I like the 2.4 and 5GHz because some items will not use 5GHz i.e. printers and wireless heating and air thermostats.

The wireless is good, but an ethernet cable hooks you up to 5G and it is even quicker. Can do a guest network for visitors to use. Install was fairly simple.

Decided to purchase my own modem/router rather than paying Comcast a fee every month. Was pretty easy to set up with Comcast and works great.

If you are trying to escape Comcast modem fees, this could be your solution for an apartment of medium range IE 1200 sq. Works fine on both 2.4 and 5 bands. No complain, for the price is OK, Motorola is better but more expensive.

We were going to switch internet carriers for a lower monthly rate available to homes with their own modem.
First of all, the sales people are trained to say that this unit will not work with my carrier. So, we were going to switch carriers, sign a new contract and buy this unit to get a lower monthly internet bill.
I'm so grateful that the new carrier's installation crew bungled everything and no-showed on us, so I cancelled them. Then I called our current carrier and they said that if I bought the modem it would work and I could save on my monthly bill. So I bought it. Once I opened the box and tried to hook up the unit, we realized that it requires a different type of connection so we were unable to use it. (The Best Buy sales staff knows better than Arris techs?!) Once we had the box open and called Arris back, they told me it was not compatible. (?) Not sure why that wasn't clear earlier but either way I didn't feel good about the unit being very, very warm and so quickly after plugging it in.
Switching carriers so that we could save $30/mo by having our own unit, would have been a huge mistake that we would have been stuck with for at least a year's contract, so just make sure its compatible with whatever youre working with. Also, it doesn't really save money vs paying the monthly rental fee for the unit that the carrier supplies. If it breaks or there's a power surge that fries the unit then who will have to replace it - you or the internet carrier?
After all the comparison shopping, then coming home with the wrong unit, almost switching carriers and getting into a bad contract.. it seems most cost effective for us to keep paying the monthly rental fee. At least if something goes wrong the carrier will come out and repair/replace the unit.
We're giving it two stars for having a reasonable price but no more because the unit was so warm I was afraid it was going to overheat.
Even if it was the right item, I just didn't like the way it seemed to be really hot. I didn't run it for long, in all fairness but it didn't feel comfortable taking my eyes off of it.

This the second Arris Surfboard AC1600 Dual band Router that I have purchased. I found the units very easy to set-up using the included Quick Start Card and customize the settings to modify the WIFI Network Name and Passwords (including establishing guest user passwords). This router is compatible with Comcast Xfinity cable internet services.
