Great Cable Modem with WiFi, but has limits

I needed a new cable modem to replace my cable company-provided equipment. It is really silly to pay a monthly rental fee for equipment that you can purchase. The payback is really quick (usually 6-8 months) and then you are in the clear. This is a fine modem and AC-capable wireless router combination. The AC signal will reach a long way, through walls and should serve for almost any sized apartment and most houses. If your equipment is not AC compatible it also sends B, G and N signals. The wireless router will automatically shift devices between the 2.4 HZ and 5 Hz bands to equalize the load and thereby maximize the throughput. The cable modem is very reliable. A cable technician advised me that the Arris 6700 can handle 250 GB to 350 GB for sustained periods, unlike many other modems which are rated for that speed but only on a peak basis, not a constant data transfer rate. The device is very compact and clean-looking. One drawback is that is has just two Ethernet connections on the back. For most this will not be an issue but I have a VOIP phone which must be connected through an Ethernet port and a desktop computer which also requires an Ethernet connection. That fills both ports and leaves none available for other purposes. Since I often work on repairing old computers I frequently need additional Ethernet connection ports to download software and drivers to those computers. The only easy solution is to add a port expander (and fortunately I found an old one in one of my many boxes of parts.) A more significant issue is that this cable modem will not support whole-home DVR systems like TIVO and Xfinity. Those systems require a networking technology called MOCA which uses the coax cable to transfer multimedia content from the main DVR to the satellite units at other TVs. You can buy a MOCA adapter to overcome this problem but I wanted you to be aware of it if you are considering this cable modem. Overally, a very nice WiFi-router/cable modem combination as long as the above limitations are not an issue for you.

Easy to set up and install. Fast, stable connection. Works with Comcast/Xfinity. Saved a lot of money by buying the modem-router combo (instead of both individually).

I looked at a lot of modem, router, and modem/router options before purchasing this one. This modem/router combo was 1. On Sale 2. Decent for the price 3. Comcast compatible. My old modem was no longer compatible with Comcast and this modem/router combo was the best price for the needs of our house. Good luck!

I bought this item for my daughter to provide Wireless in about a thousand square foot environment. This has provided very solid connection and range even extending outside of the house. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to save the money from a long-term rental of a cable modem.

This puppy is easy to set up and operate. Just plug in and play . Call your provider and boom it works great. The router options are pretty great and the range is great too . It’s small compact and does what is needed . The only issue is some of the WiFi settings are hard to understand. I don’t feel like auto channels for 2.4 ghz work well . It only has two Ethernet ports but that’s fine for my needs . It stays connected to Internet even when not active . Funny my iMac didn’t connect with iCloud Drive well on my default router modem and this fixed it . Apple didn’t even know how to fix it so this is cool extra for me .

I purchased this for my daughter to use in her first apartment. Very easy to setup and works great with Comcast. Plugged in all the Cable wire and powered it up. Called Comcast and they were able to provision the Surfboard right away. My daughter was able to get on right away with WiFi. Management application was easy to use to change the login, password, SSIDs and secure WiFi. The LEDs are very bright and the SurfBoard has white plastic that the LEDs shine through. Keeping with the water theme Arris should call this a "LightHouse"

I bought this to save money from Comcast. This works just as well as the one you get from them. Good range, it reaches just as far as the modem from AT&T and a Comcast. It’s easy to set up and the instructions inside show you how to set up your own WiFi name and password. All in all it takes 15 minutes. You’ll pay for this in 10 months by saving on the rental fee.

This unit is definitely worth owning. It consistently holds speeds faster than what I pay for. I have never dropped a signal. The dual bands and an option for guest wireless are great bonuses. It was super easy to setup and easier to install. The only real negative is the lights are real bright, but they are a heck of a night light in my living room- no more kicking the kids toys!

I purchased item a few months ago. I set it up with a new Internet Provider (Time Warner C) and it was simple. It has worked flawlessly since. It is faster than my old router, which had been provided by Clearwire, my previous ISP. I'm not surprised this one is faster. We always have 2-3 laptops connected.

My son wanted to purchase a router/modem for his apartment so he didn't have to rent one from the cable company. This one was more expensive than he would have liked, but it is compact in size and works great! It's just what he needed and worth the price!

I bought this modem because the one I had was several years old and when I re subscribed to Internet service through my local cable company I was told by the installing tech that my equipment was no longer compatible. I went to Best Buy and was greeted by friendly staff who told me exactly what I needed for my provider. I purchase this even though I considered it a bit pricy but have been very pleased with it and its operation. It gives me full house coverage and has no problem running multiple devices at the same time. Overall I would say it has been a good piece of equipment so far!!
