Originally purchased the Netgear N600 and it didn't last a week. Spent the next three weeks calling support and they never resolved the problems. They finally shipped another unit but I had already went ahead and purchased the Motorola and I'm glad I did. Worked from day one and its been excellent. I would recommend this to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this despite the bad reviews here.
I must say that those bad reviews are incorrect. Those experiencing dropped connections and/or poor speed must be using a bad cable provider and/or not paying for the proper amount of internet speed. This thing can only perform as well as the service you are feeding to it - and it can handle just about any speed available for residential cable customers. For reference I have the performance internet from Comcast/Xfinity.
The price is a little high, but I believe it is worth it when you factor in that you can drop your monthly modem lease from your cable company and AND that you can drop using a separate router - thus eliminating wires and an outlet on your surge protector/wall outlet.
My household regularly sees wifi usage between 2 iphones, 2 ipads, an xbox 360, and macbook pro, and samsung bluray player, and with this device none of them drop connection or slow in speed when multiple devices are in use.
The password that comes with the device is long - but that's added security.

Excellent Modem/Router Combo

I was just about to give up on cable internet until I found this modem/router. Our provider upgraded to Docsis 3.0 last year and my 8 year old modem was terrible. The cable company sent a tech to our house and installed a modem that was Docsis 2.0. He even told my wife that it was the latest technology. Problem I found was that over time, the old modem would get slower and slower. I'm not sure if it was their modem or my Linksys router. Welcome the SURFboard...
The initial configuration was quite simple. The first thing you should do is change the Admin name and password. These instructions were easily found in the included CD. There are some basic settings you should do with any WIFI setup and all of these took very little time to do. Having a guest network was also great. Now I can configure my home network to require MAC addresses but my guest one does not. I still have my guest network password protected and hidden, but it uses a different password than my main network.
Lastly, the wireless home has grown so much now. Before it was just laptops. Now it's iPods, iPads, Smart phones, Wii and other TV devices for streaming. All of these connected with no problem at all. Even the ones that used the old "G" and not "N".
No disappointment here!!!

I installed my modem in twenty minutes, easy to installed. Make sure your cable company activate your modem right, I had to call them three times. But it got my old desk top running faster than ever. Love it

I need to upgrade an old Linksys 2 in 1 that worked great but just had too many miles onit.
i live in small 1300 sq foot home. have about 5 devices using wifi simultaneously at any given point in time. this motorola puts in work. I hardly deal with signal timeouts, and am very happy with the speed and power it can provide.
not the most powerful thing on the market. but a great buy for what it costs.

I have just had this one day and love it. It has been the easiest modem or router to set up I have ever had and the speeds are blazing fast. I have 2 laptops my palm pre plus and my Hp wireless printer hooked to it and all did great the first time And just think all this in a camper..........Got to love technology. . I hope I don't have the problems that others have stated but so far I love it. I'll post updates as time goes on.

I had another Motorola surfboard but had to upgrade to keep up with higher speeds networking.
I have only had a few times were I had issues with this surfboard. But the people at motorola helped me resolve the issue quickly, plus when you call for asistance you actually get someone from the U.S. who speaks english, it is just a matter of unpowering and repowering if it acts up (only 2 times so far and I have had it for awhile now)
It has saved me from leasing a modemn and router from my local network provider, which within 10 months it has already paid for itself.
After seeing mine, my neighbor went out and purchased one too.
It is extremely easy to set up and use,and it does get alot of usage out of this machine.
As someone once said..try it, you'll like it.

Great Modem from Best Buy Price matched

I bought this modem from Best Buy and the sales agent was kind enough to match the price to ebay or amazon. This is a great product and I am very happy to buy it. Thanks to best buy for making it possible for me to buy it from them. Great product and great price from best buy. Anyone who is a best buy customer can go to best buy instead of ebay or amazon and do a price match.

Does the Job

I've used this device for about 6 months now. In comparing it to devices I've used before (which were not combo cable modem/router units), I would say that I feel there's more of a "lag" in the wireless connections I get from this device than I've gotten from previous devices. I also seem to experience brief issues with disconnects. I'm not sure whether that's my cable company or the device, but the way it happens, I think it's the device. And there are definitely periods where the signal meter on my laptop only registers 4 out of 5 bars (sitting 10 feet from the device), when it easily read a solid 5 out of 5 bars with my previous router.
But other than those issues, I'd say this device gets the job done. I haven't had any major outage issues, and it's a DOCSIS 3.0 device, which I needed due to a cable service upgrade in my area.
And just a random frustration . . . after installing the device & attempting to log into it to change the network name, etc., I found that the default user name & password printed in the instruction manual would not work. Ended up having to call customer service (and the guy was actually kind of rude), only to find out that they'd had an error printing the instructions & the default info was something entirely different from what's printed in the manuals. Kind of crazy!!

Great product, does what it is suppose to do. The only draw back is that it doesn't have great range. Decent range but not great. My daughter likes to take her ITouch in our basement to run on the treadmill and listen to Pandora but the signal is too weak. With our previous Wireless router it worked. The signal strength is fine on the first floor (which is where it is located) and the second floor, just not in the basement. Other then that no problems.

Great modem for Comcast

I just switched to xfinity internet about 1 week ago and have had nothing but problems with the xfinity router/modem SMCD3GNV. The guy at the comcast store asked if I had a router that I can connect to a regular modem because there router gave a lot of their customers problems. I just went ahead and took it anyway but it was terrible, WiFi would go out all the time then the internet just went out completely. I went to Best Buy and bought this router and it works the way it should! Didn't improve the download speed for my desktop but it did for my phone and laptop by 5mbps. Upload speed did suffer by 1mbps on all of my devices but I can live with that.

I purchased this modem/router to replace my old outdated one. The installation went fine using the default username and password that came with the product. All recommendations are to then customize your username and password. In trying to do this, I ran into great difficulty of how to do it.. I called the Motorola help number given with the product and was told that for them to help customize the username and password, it would cost me $30.00. After a heated discussion, I told them that was extortion and hung up. After working with Geek Squad with no success, I fumbled around for about 8 hours checking out help screens, resetting the modem/router, and trying different things. Finally I stumbled across the solution and was able to change the username and password. Once I figured it out, the procedure was fairly simple and would have taken the Motorola tech help only a few minutes to get me straight. Charging $30.00 to get their product working with a private username and password is ludicrous and I would rate their customer service as 000! Once I got it working, the modem/router seems to be working fine and has solved the problems I was having with my old router.

Brought it home two days ago, hooked it up and it works great. Had a little trouble configuring the settings for my private network but found everything I needed in the instruction manual. I do not know why so many others are having issues with this device...
I think this unit is a great price, it replaces three devices: Cable Modem, Switch, Wireless Hub. You can now buy some of these items together as well, but not all in one place like this.
My only guess on the others is a faulty unit. I recommend giving this a try and if you have issues, return it. These reviews just seem to be to polarized to be accurate all the time. I also factor in that most people who are happy with something like this are not going to post anything at all, so the average score goes down...
