This is my second purchase of the same exact Router/Modem. The first one lasted a little longer than 2 years which is great for the price.

The cost is way too much, but then again. You get an all in one. Instead of having a separate modem and wireless router, so I guess the price is a wash. I've had this two months and the first few weeks it worked like champ. Then it started having unreliable connections, that would drop off constantly. Similar to what I had before with 2wire and AT&T. The last couple of weeks, it has seem to stabilize. I'm not sure if it's got some overheating issues or what. When connected though, it gives me average speeds of 20+mbps, which is awesome compared to my old AT&T dsl. With the limited selection for an all in one gateway for Comcast cable. I would say that this is only worth it, if you have limited space and don't want to buy two separate boxes for your place.

I have COX High Speed Internet and this modem is finally on their approved list of modems. I am replacing my old SBG 900 Surfboard which has served me well for the past 5 years. I've been waiting for an all in one cable modem with 802.11n and this unit fits the bill.

    Very fast, but inconsistent connection

I bought this modem when I learned that Comcast had upgraded my internet speed and that the modem I had was not taking advantage of it. I bought this modem despite the mediocre reviews figuring that people with bad experiences are more likely to respond than the majority with a good experience. Also, I am quite tech savvy, so I figured any minor issues could be easily overcome. I opted to get this model to have an all-in-one solution replacing the older modem and Apple router that have been reliable for years. At first I was quite pleased with the ease of setup and ability to get online, but that was off my desktop that was hardwired to the modem. I was blown away by the speed and quite happy, for a while. At first (for about 5-10 minutes) the WiFi was great and I was enjoying fast speed over that as well, but then my devices began to drop. I changed settings, refreshed settings restarted all devices and the modem itself, but I could never get a reliable connection. Figuring it was an issue with the WiFi part I opted to disable this and use my tried and true Apple WiFi router. After some reconfiguration I got this working and it was more stable than the built-in, but not as stable as it was before. I've been getting on average 1-3 days of reliable connections on WiFi (with some small periods of slow/no connection), but I have to manually or by software reset my network a few times a week. Right now I am putting up with this based on the high speed and relatively reliable connection, but I am keeping my eyes open for a better modem or for when my wife has enough of the kids being upset about not being able to get online and I'm on the road unable to reset the system.

If you're looking for a quality combo modem/router gateway, this is it. Out of the box and rolling in 30 minutes. Haven't thought about it since and the data keeps on coming.

The unit was simple to install, and once the cable company was given the numbers, everything worked like a charm. Not one minute of trouble since installation.

I have a 2600sqft home. The eXtreme is located in the downstairs study, where the cable comes into the house. Signal strength in the gameroom (which is on the other end of the house), is still excellent. The only trouble that I've had is to get my Epson WorkForce 845 printer to set up wirelessly...but then again, it may be me..I am not that computer savy. I'm sure I'll get it figured out eventually. Overall, I am very happy with the Motorola SURFboard eXtreme. And yes, I have recommended it many times to my friends.

    Worked for a while

Bought this at Best Buy 11 months ago. Used a separate wireless router for Internet connection for several months. Tried to use the wireless functionality on the Surfboard later and found that it dropped the Internet frequently. So, then I am using it only as a modem and wired router. This week the ethernet plug ins began to fail one-by-one. Called Arris for support who said reset it, which I did and now it will not connect to my Comcast network. End state is that the Surfboard doesn't do anything at all. Bought a Zoom modem and it worked fine from outset. Arris, formerly Motorola, told me that the problem is not their device and I should hold tight until they have figured out why so many customers are having problems with this device. Will not replace or provide a different model. Recommend no one buy this modem.

Neither myself or the Comcast installer could get this thing to work at first. It kept rejecting it's own password which is printed on the bottom. Turns out the password is written on the bottom as the address and the address as the password. When we got that figured out everything connected, wired and wireless, except for the Sony PSP. The PSP can see the gateway but doesn't recognize the protocol so it is not possible to ever connect. If you plan on using a PSP wirelessly then this is not the gateway for you.

This is doing a good job for me. I love the fact the I now I have a router and modem all in one now. It has 4 ports on the back that you can plug your hardwires in to and also use as a wireless router. Seems to be doing great as far as speeds go and was easy to hook up once my cable company firgured out what they were doing.

Well, no doubt this thing is awesome but, it could be cheaper. For me, the ease of installation was very easy. However, wirelessly it was very fast but, direct cable connection was slow. I think this thing is better wireless than direct cable connection. The value is good but the price isn't. Too expensive. Should be cheaper.

We've had this for about a month. Needed something fast for getting movies and tv shows, but also wanted a wireless router included so we didn't have so many devices. This fit the bill. Decent price - I hope it lasts for years now.

Got it home, set it up and it worked. I Just followed the directions. Old Modem was Motorola Surfboard SB4100. Old Router was Linksys WRT54gs. Both are about 14 years old. Comcast told me the Modem was too old for their system and it had failed. New one works but seems slower than the old one. I see more Buffering than before. But it does work and I have fewer problems with my wireless printer. So my wife is happy and the peace in the house makes me happy.

After less than 1 year, I replaced this modem/router with an old Netgear model that a friend was replacing. After the first few months, the performance started to be really spotty. I had frequent breaks in streaming video and sometimes no service at all. I had to unplug it to reset it at least twice a day. I called both Comcast and the manufacturer to get answers, but no resolution. Since I switched to Netgear, I've had no problems of any kind. I can only conclude that the model I bought didn't work properly. Maybe I just got a lemon.

    Defective Modem

I bought this modem/router about 6 months ago. From the start, it would work fine for a while, and then it would begin dropping the internet connection. Sometimes it would come back up immediately, and sometimes it would take a while. When I contacted Arris technical support, they said that they good check it remotely, and it seemed to be working fine. They suggested that the issue was likely caused by issues with my internet service provider. I contacted my ISP (cable company), and they sent technicians out multiple times. After several such visits, I was told by the technician that everything on their end had now been changed out, and if I was still having issues, I should try buying a new modem. I consequently bought a new modem and router, and everything worked perfectly immediately. During the process, I visited other websites to see reviews for this modem/router, and I saw many reviews from people who had similar problems to mine. Before buying this modem, I would look at multiple reviews on multiple web-sites. It could be that it was just the modem/router that I got, but I am definitely not the only one who had this problem.
