    Terrible modem for the money

I had high hopes for this modem for the money I paid for it. Right out of the box I had a good connection on all of my devices: 2 smartphones, 2 laptops, direct tv bridge, 1 pc and a wireless printer. My problems started after about a week, just about every week I was having to reconnect my wireless printer to the modem due to a lost connection. I am not a heavy printer so it didn't bother me that much, just a hassle when I did want to print something. After about a month I was losing connections with my smartphones in the house, this bothered me quite a bit. Now I am getting lost connections with my laptop, this is a big problem when you are doing any type of work online as you lose everything you are currently working on!! I had a lower model of the Surfboard (SB5101) combined with a Netgear Wireless router and never lost connections in the house. I would not recommend this product to anyone, save yourself the hassle and headache and go a different route!! I will be returning mine to Best Buy and going with a Cisco product.

Should have read the reviews first...

All of the one star reviews are correct. Hopefully they get this thing sorted out, but it's not ready for prime time. Several calls to Motorola tech support and Comcast tech support couldn't sort out the problems with this modem. I didn't even get as far as testing the Wi-fi part that people complain so much about. Comcast tech support figured it to be a DNS issue. Web sites were extremely slow to load and about 1/3 of the time the pages could not be displayed. We tried lots of different setting and all to no avail. I returned it and bought a Motorola SB 6120 and a Netgear N600 Wireless Router--both of which have very good reviews and I see why. I'm bummed that the all-in-one modem/router thing didn't work out, it would have been much more convenient in terms of managing cable clutter and desk space.

    Not any better than Arris

I bought this to replace the Arris modem supplied by Time Warner Cable for their Extreme internet service. The Arris signal was disappointing at best. I read good things about the range on this. SO NOT TRUE. The range is exactly the same. Waste of my time.

I love this unit. I just wish I had not paid so much for it, but it's signal strength is very strong. The signal covers all of my property.

    Has Problems

I bought this to replace an older DOCSIS 2.0 surfboard cable modem and an 802.11 n router that had the power pack fail. As others have mentioned, I noticed the Wi-Fi range was not that good. Then I discovered the gigabit ports were causing problems with the LAN speed especially when streaming HDTV from a Silicon Dust HDHomeRun 4 networked TV tuner. As soon as I connected everything with a gigabit switch and only used the modem as a gateway things cleared up. I noticed a reviewer on another website mentioned his was set to IP Flood Enabled in the Firewall section and that was causing dropped packets but mine wasn't enabled.

This unit was a real let-down. I had gone in-store with a particular model in mind (after researching online) but saw this on the shelf next to it. I read the specs and saw it had 4.1 stars from bb.com. I bought it expecting the blazing speeds it promised but it has just been a garbage experience from the get-go. The wireless is in and out all day, the connection is not stable (and it isn't my ISP). Additionally it does not deliver the speeds my ISP provides. I will be returning this unit to the store to get a MODEM ONLY model to use with a Netgear AC router I ordered from Amazon. This model is unstable and flawed, AVOID.

    Would not buy

Bought this to use with Comcast service. The range is horrible. The install CD DOES NOT WORK ON MAC!!!! After wasting an hour trying to install on mac I installed on PC. Then it comes with a 20 digit password and to try to change it you have to call Motorola as the instructions do not work ..they want 30.00 to tell you how to change it. I would burn in hell first. Spent an hour on my own and figured out how to do it myself. What a joke. This piece of junk costs as much as a mac airport and is a 10th the quality.

I should have upgraded like the sales associate recommended. We Mahe it work with wiring some devices to the router. For anyone that plans on having 4 or more devices on the wifi, upgrade!

    Dropped internet connection frequently

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The first month or so of using this modem/router was great. Now it drops devices from the internet many times a day. This is frustrating when you're trying to use game devices to watch movies and such, as it's a long process to reconnect. We looked up the problem and it seems that it's happened to more users than not, with no fix. I've been in this situation before. It's not worth fighting with Cox Cable and Motorola blame one another for the problem and Best Buy says I've had the modem too long for any financial relief. I'll cut my losses and try another brand. Save your money and look at another brand.

    Half good...

So I bought this and hooked it up. Everything went well until I tried to upload. When I upload my down drops to .2 or less MGBS down and about that up. It is hard load even webpages at those speeds. As soon as it finishes uploading it is fast again. So if you are ever going to do any uploading don't buy this. As soon as I got another moden the problem was fixed. I will never buy another Motorolla moden again.

    piece of junk

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

needs to be reset once a month, now weekly if not almost daily. I have Comcast "ultimate" web service, started at 100 MB download, now 150MB download (internet not the router). After a period of time, see above) the speeds would go down to half that, if not more unless I reset the router. Unless you enjoy resetting your router/modem every couple of days this is not the product for you. I won't buy any Motorola model of router/modem again. Factory rep finally admitted that this is a very, very comment complaint for this product.
