TWC Recommends, But doesn't update Firmware

I have this unit for nearly two years, and it's out the window tonite. It constantly drops the wireless signal. Tonite I had a final exam, it dropped the signal and submitted my test. YIKES!! I have tried for nearly two years to get Motorola to upgrade the firmware and have been told that only my service provider can. TWC states that the firmware is updated, but I can see it's not. On to a Netgear router.

The modem operated fairly well for a while. Right after the warranty expired I began having problems. The modem required rebooting every day. The furthest it would broadcast a wireless signal was about 20 feet direct sight. I would look for a different modem to buy.

This router is a joke. Brighthouse attempted to install this device on two different occasions without any success. Even the technician that was doing the installation said the device sucked and that they have tried many times to tell Brighthouse to use different equipment for their services but they won't listen. I ended up going online and buying the Motorola SB6141 which is a total winner. It has the same capabilities as this one except for the wifi part but you can use your own router and works perfect.

    DROPS CONSTANTLY!!!

I have had this "modem/router" for the past 6 months and can say this is the worst router I have ever used. The speed is ok at best, but that is if it is working. I have had issues with it dropping at least 5 times a day and it has done it multiple times in the middle of my timed college algebra quizzes. I have had service technicians from Cox Communications at my house 3 times now and they cannot figure out the problem. Turns out it is just this piece of garbage. DO NOT BUY THIS unless you want guaranteed problems!

    Not Good

This item installed very easily, no problem at all installing. The Modemm operates as expected, but the problems arise when trying to connect via WiFi. Spent hours playing with the settings over multiple days and still had extremely intermittent connections. Even when connected the connection was very slow. Nothing but trouble with the wrieless router aspect of this item. Very disappointed.

Worked for one year before this modem/router failed. Started failing by cutting the internet out for a few seconds. Then minutes. Then hours. Then after a little over a year thid surfboard failed. It barely paid itself off in comparison to comcasts leased modem. DO NOT BUY!!!!

The wireless sucks! I had a Motorola 3347 in the exact same place for over 2 years, never had to power cycle it one time, never dropped packets signal was steady . I Have had this modem for 2 months and have had to fight with it on a daily basis. drops packets, poor throughput, poor signal strength. The default firewall settings blocked lots of traffic, Had to do many tweeks and it still preforms poorly. I bought this modem because of Motorola rep, but would not recommend the surfboard extreme, it is a extreme pain in the rear and have spent too many hours trouble shooting it's problems.

    Did NOT Meet My Expectations

Purchased this item July 13, 2011, and have had problems since. I went from the SB5101 & Belkin N Wireless Router and had no problems at all. I purchased the SBG6580 to get rid of clutter, and of course to take advantage of the 3.0 techonology. Cox and Motorola keep passing the buck having me change some settings, but none of this has worked. My issue is the WiFi. My Laptop and two Samsung Infuse 4G's all reconnected to my WiFi within range of my equipment automatically as they should everytime. Now, I literally have to click as many as five to eight times when using my Laptop to get to the website I want to visit. My Samsungs, I have to toggle my WiFi off, then on, and they will connect to my equipment. As I said, this was never an issue until I switched to the SGB6580. It will be returned TODAY! MOTOROLA, you have never disappointed me until now!

Drops wireless connection when VOIP phone in use

I have purchased this to replace Motorola SB5101 and linksys WRT54G which were working well with 5 laptops(3 XP, 1 Windows 7, 1 Mac), PS3 and Vonyage VOIP phone. After an easy installation of this product, XP laptops and mac connected wirelessly but could never make it work on Windows7. Whenever VOIP phone is in use (incoming or outgoing call), wireless internet connection dropped on all my laptops. All the online work in progress is gone with unexpected connection drop! I have never tried PS3 with this modem. There was no problem with Modem functionality of this equipment but wireless performed very poor. I called Motorola customer service, they couldn't figure out what the problem is. So I have exchanged this product at BestBuy with Motoral SB6120 and Linksys E2000 for an additional $35. Everything worked fine with Motoral SB6120 and Linksys E2000.

    Horrible reception

Unless I am inside the same room as this modem, my connection keeps dropping and mostly wont even let me connect. When I go to the same room as the modem, works great! Very frustrating when my old Linksys worked beautifully while laying in bed. Furthermore, took me over an hour on the phone with Comcast to get this to work. I will be returning this item.

    Very unreliable modem

I got this modem though BBY store - an associate recommended it because it is all in one. This seemed like a great idea at the time but it has been an absolute headache bordering on useless. Poor signal, constantly drops connections etc. I've changed that channel and done what I can but still does not work reliably. I cannot get signal in my basement where I used to get it with a wireless g before. Do not purchase.

This device is horrible. I purchased it yesterday 8/2/12 at 10am and I work nights. I will be returning it 8/3/12 at 10am. I have tried everything to keep my devices connected. Not to mention more than one. This router combo can only operate one computer at a time and will drop any other device trying to use the network. Xbox, laptop, desktop. And it wont even accept my smartphone. I've tried every setting and manually entered the MAC for each, unfiltered, filtered. Firewalled and none. DHCP settings and manually inputted each IP address. Still only allows one connection over wifi. I was finally sucessfull with ethernet cable and wifi and had an xbox and laptop connected. But that was all. Desktop, second laptop and phones still couldn't connect. Don't waste your time or money.

    Don't Get Combination Equipment

I had to turn off the router portion of this equipment and use my old router. Continually dropped connections. Always had to go to websites twice to get them to load. Did some reading on internet and turns out that this router can't do its job of routing information. For once it is not the cable providers fault. As soon as I turned off router part and used my old router everything is all good.

I have had this device for more than a year now, I had to reboot the device every week or so, I was ok with it until last week. I had to reboot the device 5 times a day. I called comcast and they finally send someone over, after hours of troubleshooting checking signals here and there and testing other modems, the tech concluded that the device was faulty. He even pointed out that he is only getting 2MBPS over the wifi and over 20MBPS when connecting directly to the device. unfortunately the warranty ran out last month! :( I have had other modems for years without any problems the reason I switch to this one was to have both the modem and wifi in the same device. I wish I had read the posts before I bought this piece of junk! Motorola should be ashamed of themselves.

    DISAPPOINTED AFTER COUPLE OF MONTHS

I bought this item a couple of months ago and was working fine. Suddenly in the last 2 weeks my wifi download signal dropped from 50mbps to 2.0 to 3.0mbps. I called Time Warner and they sent technician. Nothing is wrong with their lines and advised me to try a different modem/router. I did today changed to Netgear N600 and true enough, the modem is defective. The modem intermittently loses its connection. Wasted money..

    Poor quality modem

I have returned 2 of these modems due to their inability to keep running. I have never had a problem with any other modem I have run. It is nice that it has wireless connectivity when it works. However it hardly worked and the speeds were slow. It also took an extended period of time to recognize the computers when they tried to reconnect to the internet. It is just a horrible modem.

I had this modem for only a week and I had to return it. I have tried a few things to correct my problem but nothing worked. Frustrated with my use of internet for 15 minutes and then losing a connection, I just had enough. I would pick dial up internet from 2000 before ever getting this brand or modem ever again. Don't buy.
