Assassins Creed - Rivia ... errr ... Valhalla...

This is a beautiful game, and it runs smooth as silk on the Xbox Series X. It has all the trappings of an AC game ... assassinations, lots of climbing and jumping, hacking and slashing galore, endless dots on the map to explore and loot, tracking down illusive agents of a secret order, and the irritating present-day story line that pops up when you’d rather be blowing your Viking horn to launch a bloody raid on another unsuspecting abbey. But the same time, it looks and feels like like I’m navigating Geralt of Rivia through an alternative Norse existence ... minus all the skin (miss you, Triss). The life of a pillaging Viking invader bears little resemblance to the shadowy life of a member of an assassins order... and I’m fine with that. Medieval England before many of the remnants and ruins (real or imagined) of the Romans Emire were buried or knocked over is glorious, and the gameplay is wonderful. You will love the journey.

Awesome game. Assasin's Creed Viking version. Graphics are awesome, gameplay is great, I believe this is the biggest open world they have ever created. I got this on sale, $20 totally worth it.

    Massive Open World Game!

I have played my fair share of open world games through the years. AC Valhalla is, by my estimation, the largest open world RPG that I have ever played. Having clocked in over 40 hours of game play, I have only completed about 25% of the game apparently!!! To say there are plenty of things to do in this game would be an understatement. If you are into Vikings and Norse Mythology, then this game is definitely up your alley. The graphics and sound are excellent. Overall game play and control layout is good enough. In the time I have played it so far, it crashed on my only once. Fortunately, the autosave feature saved the day. I also had to deal with an annoying bug which I could not figure out a workaround for until I came across an online posting that advised me to change the gender of my character for a bit so that I can finally access a certain mission (search for a person type of mission) and complete it. Thank goodness for online forum posts! Overall, a very good AC game.

    Broken, buggy mess

Please note: I got this game on release day last year and have played for around 200 hours, completing all but a few side quests/puzzles. I even have the three legendary weapons (Excalibur, Mjolnir, and the Isu bow), so I'm coming at this review with an informed opinion. Now...the GOOD: Excellent graphics. Much better variety of quest objectives. Much more immersive experience. Beautiful world design. Compelling story...to a point (more on that later). Much better variety in character personalities. No ocean-bound ship battles (I hated those in ODYSSEY). Weapon upgrade system is simplified. The BAD: Story drags on way too long. There are some quests that just don't know when to end and they overstay their welcome. While it's simplified, the weapon upgrade system can be a grind-fest and, because it requires specific materials that are rather finite, you had better be sure you want to keep the weapon you're upgrading. The REALLY REALLY BAD... This game is an ABSOLUTE BUGGY MESS!!! I got very lucky that I was able to avoid most game-breaking glitches until I finished it (although I did experience a glitch that awarded me a Legendary Animal kill just because I walked over its underground location). However, there were side quests that were completely broken for me. The first Yule Festival event--which was time-limited--was permanently broken and unfinishable. The last straw for me was last month's patch. It broke the Guaranteed Assassination option for me. This is found in the Settings menu and gives players the option for one-shot assassinations regardless of enemy level...except most bosses). After the patch, my Level 406 character with 50+ mastery points couldn't even one-hit assassinate a BASIC ARCHER in the Level 340 Hamtunscire region. The only way I could recommend this game is if you can get it for $20 and are willing to accept that you might not be able to complete it. Personally, I'm done with it. It was a compelling game, but the software glitches plaguing it have made it an unpredictable mess. I won't be buying the expansion packs, and I certainly will not be getting the next AC game until it's on a deep discount.

Just The Right Amount of Assassin

I’ve played every Assassins Creed since Brotherhood. It‘s fantastic how the series continues to evolve. Valhalla is an evolution from the previous two titles with its RPG-lite mechanics yet its bigger and in fresher more densely packed environments. Why I was initially saddened to leave the beautiful snow capped mountains of Norway I was soon pleasantly surprised with the very vibrant almost Witcher-esque fantasy environment of the 9th century British Isles. The fog, lighting and shading so beautiful I thought it had ray tracing. While some of the combat and actual task can get a little bit repetitive they do a good job of changing it up as each region has its own storyline and different objectives. The raids are a nice touch. The base game is nice and long yet holds my interest. The cinematics and scripted parts are very well done, as I come to expect from this enduring series.

This is an incredible game. I bought it to have something that would showcase the graphical power of the series X; a month later, this game has emerged as the front-runner as the best new game of this new console generation. I've played the first five Creed games (AC 1, 2, Revelations, Brotherhood, AC 3), but haven't played any of the middle of the series, where it starts to evolve. I was floored not only by the presentation of this title (it looks AMAZING), but also by the writing, the mechanics, the gameplay loop, the breadth of content. I never would have imagined that this would end up being one of my favorite games of the last five years. Do yourself a favor and get lost in it.

Long gameplay - lots of things to do that spans across a large open world. RPG element of leveling up skills is vast. Love the Viking lore as well! One of the best installments of the series.

Love the assassins creed franchise and this game doesn't disappoint. Have only played the game for a few hours so far but game play is solid. Graphics look great and combat is fluid not choppy like I felt in origins more so like odyssey. The ability to switch between the male and female lead based on current objective and play style is very unique but needs a little refinement I would recommend sticking with one character then playthrough with the other. If you are a fan of the series this game is a must, if this is your first experience with the assassins creed games maybe wait until its on sale for around $40 if you are unsure.

I got this when it was on sale for 30 bucks and I’ve been having a lot of fun during my time playing it. (I’m in the second act, so fairly early) I have heard from other people that it can take around 50 hours to complete but the way the combat and loot system has changed from odyssey to Valhalla is what really makes this more fun for me. Not only this but the way the story is formed is actually really neat and has me connecting with characters a lot more than odyssey and origins. Definitely grab when it goes on sale, otherwise if you really want to play as a Viking assassin then go full price

The Assassins Creed series becomes more refined with each release. Popping this into a new Xbox Series X will treat the user to outstanding graphics and fun game play. Of note is the short load times. Past Creed games will have the user running in circles during the loading screen, that time is cut down to a few seconds of running around now before the level starts. Different regions are loaded seamlessly in the background with no stutter. Game play is boring at first as your character is very weak and can not pull off any special moves, but through upgrades you learn the ways of the Assassin and game play picks up. There are extremely challenging missions from the get go if you are willing to try but most of your time will be taken up with adventure and leveling up. Boat mechanics work well and the ability to raid villages is a new dynamic.

Great game! Purchased this for my husband for his birthday and he is a big gamer that takes the time to do all the side missions. The game changes depending on the decisions you make, so he played beat it eventually by letting his character be one way, but I know I got my money's worth because he will eventually play it again and make completely different decisions to see how the game changes. He is an avid player and the game took him quite some time. The map is quite large and there are a lot of missions. It is definately worth the money!
