Good Laptop for Price

I bought this computer because I accidentally dropped and broke my old one (it was 3yrs old, so far out of warranty), and I needed a new one immediately for school. I didn't have another grand to shell out for a new computer so I bought this one because it had similar features to my old one - core i5, hd, energy star - at less than $500.
However, there are definitely performance differences between this laptop and my old one. I probably need to upgrade the memory because it lags A LOT. It has been a long time since I have had to wait on my computer but I do it almost every day now. Except at start up, this computer only needs 10-15 sec from powered down to log in screen...pretty amazing.
The HD quality is questionable. It's HD but not the crisp, crisp HD that I am apparently used to now. The sound is good. The webcam is fuzzy and definitely not HD, but I don't use it so I don't care about that. The touchpad works when it wants to...the gestures (to scroll up and down a page) don't work when you first load the computer for some really odd reason. It takes like 5-10min for that feature to kick in. And I hate Windows8. It's redundant when it is installed on a computer. The Apps are terrible and often when you open one, it takes you to the desktop anyway...I find it really pointless. I looked long and hard for a Windows7 computer but I would have had to pay more to downgrade.
On the bright side, the computer works. I can do my homework, research, watch my tv shows, etc on here. The battery life is amazing for the size of this computer; I think I measured 5 hours. It charges super quick so if you need to bring your laptop somewhere, you can plug it in half an hour before you go and have enough juice to last you several hours. It's energy star, which is important to me. Overall, for how much I paid, I am happy. The performance matches the price. I would recommend this laptop to those who just need a working computer at a decent price.

My son has been using this laptop for roughly a year without any issues. He mainly plays games and surfs the net but does use it for school work and has been pleased with the performance and durability.

Bought this laptop for my college freshman and so far, after almost 2 years, it still works pretty well. The battery holds up well and no issues so far. This is our first Asus computer and we will definitely be buying another one in the very near future.

I bought this during the holidays in 2014 and I wanted to use it for a good time before I put up a review, its a great machine for everyday use and the price was unbeatable at BBY during the holidays. I will upgrade the RAM in future on this.

Little bit clunky until I did the 8.1 upgrade. The laptop I got (on purpose) does not have a touch screen. Since then it's been great. Not a big fan of touch screen technology for my applications. So far, the ASUS has been a good workhorse.

Needed a laptop for school and was looking at a different brand. Sales associate gave recommendation for this laptop because he said it was much better than the other brand I was thinking of purchasing. Had never really researched ASUS. Informed by associate about ASUS and made purchase. Have not had any problems at all except getting used to windows 8 from 7. Thanks again !

Nice laptop. Good price. All that I wanted.
DVD. Great Battery. Nicely Quick speed.
The Windows 8.1 takes getting used to.... but I like new things.
What I don't get is that it seems to do LESS with more KEY STROKES!
THAT IS NOT PROGRESS, MICROSOFT! But...... it's OK..... it's workable
for what I need. Best Buy has been helpful.

Bought this laptop for my 12 year old son primarily for gaming and he loves it. Seems to be well made and provides the functionality he needs. Would definitely recommend at this price point.

it works as expected. I bought it for my office admin, and she loves it. However, for Windows, we need to upgrade to 8GB RAM for it work faster. I wish they offered it with 8GB

This ASUS has been quick with a Core i5. Purchased during the holidays for under $400. This is not a gaming laptop so it does not have the extra ram and a dedicated video card, however for home use this laptop has been great. Windows 8 is questionable and sometimes annoying to find files on and the HDD drive is on the slower end. But for a basic computer I am enjoying the quicker startup and the processing speed. This unit has 4gb of ram which needs to be bumped up and a 15.4" monitor, DVD/burner, HDMI connection, and 3 usb port. Anyone looking for a less expensive laptop with the luxuries of processing speed this is it.

This Asus - 15.6 with Intel core i5 is perfect for my personal use at home.
Thanks to the built-in tutoring, it is for me as a senior and not a computer expert, quite easy to navigate and use for various applications.
Also, it is quite fast.

Overall I am glad I went with an Asus computer, the reviews were very positive and I definitely see why. It runs as well as any computer I've used and it was also a decent price. The only things are the disk drive is kind of cheap but as long as you are a fairly careful person it does not matter. Also I recommend purchasing a mouse with it because the built in one is not as precise as I would like.

The build and feel of this laptop are of a good quality and the Intel i5 is pretty fast. The only complaint I have is the Windows 8 software has some problems updating, but that's easily fixed! Best bang for your buck in my opinion.

It is great for the price. Purchased it for my 12 year old stepdaughter and she thinks it is heavenly. I personally would like twice the ram, but the processor is fast. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but price reflects this. Great laptop for what we purchased it for.

good upgrade from my 8 year old Dell. Didn't like windows 8 at first but learning how to put up with it. My cd tray seems to be jammed and the top door that exposes the keyboard is a little hard to open with my old hands. don't like the touch pads on any computer but they all got em now.

I bought this laptop for my assistant who uses it to work from home when she is off. She loves the laptop and always raves about how easy it is to use. I highly recommend this laptop to someone looking for a great laptop at a better price point!
