Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the large screen size and its good color reproduction as significant advantages. The ease of use, impressive battery life, and reasonable price point are also frequently praised. While some users find the performance adequate for their needs, limited storage space is a recurring concern for a few customers.

ASUS Chromebook makes typing and data entry easy with their full sized keyboard and easy access right hand numeric keypad. It does not have back lit keys which would be nice, but it does extend the battery's life. I easily paired my Bluetooth M650 mouse once it updated its software a few times. The Chromebook wakes up almost instantly just by opening the lid. Memory is meager at 64Gb, but it does have two (2) USB ports for external devices like an external hard-drive. Two (2) USB "C" ports are located near the back right and left sides for charging or external expansion. I have a docking port which adds a speaker phone and extra USB ports as well as an additional HDMI video connector. The track pad is slightly sensitive. I find I am constantly activating it with my palm. The top row of keys are for dimming or brightening the display, screen capture, toggling between open apps, mute, volume power ON/OFF as well as esc,. page up/down, home and end. All within easy reach. The display is excellent to view, sharp and crisp. Very little glare, except It does reflect objects or lights (windows) on the sides. Above it is a built in camera for video sharing. It has a white LED but not a shutter which adds a better means of privacy. The microphone is okay, but I like my docking speaking better as it doubles as a noise cancelling mic. I find it very useful for emails, document management and writing. Its WiFi is reliable and fast. The battery has easily lasted the whole day of normal use. Speaker quality is good and clear.

Overall, the ASUS 17.3” Chromebook is great for what it is. It is meant to handle what most people need a personal computer for while at home - paying bills, browsing the internet, watching YouTube, streaming services, etc.). For people who rely on heavy computing (business use, AV editing, running massive reports, etc., there are dedicated desktop, laptop and tablets meant for those uses), this will supplement, but not replace a dedicated full-fledged computer…nor is is meant for those purposes. It is a 5 star device, as a Chromebook and a 4 star device as an entry level laptop. The basic usage I’ve mentioned above is where this Chromebook shines. I really enjoyed using it and will continue for it’s very nice screen, how it runs smoothly while browsing websites, its streaming capabilities and looking through Social Media. What I’ve noticed using this laptop: Overall size It’s large and on the heavier side The benefits are a large screen and keyboard It’s thin The keyboard is excellent It’s large, has a 10-key feature and is easy to use It isn’t backlit, though That’s good for longer battery life, but may or may not effect usage in low light settings The screen is large and bright It has a good balance of clarity and viewing angles Charging/data/audio capabilities 2 - USB-C ports The included charger uses one of these ports 2 - USB-A ports 1 - Micro SD card slot 1 - 3.5mm Audio Jack

Chromebook have come a long way since over the past several years. My first Chromebook had only one USB port and was quite small. We have progressed since then. This laptop has several USC C and USB ports to assure you can connect all of your devices with ease. My first impressions to this laptop was that it was enormous yet light weight. The screen was very vivid and the bright screen really popped unlike other competitors in this area. Please keep in mind that this laptop is for the novice user, it has 4 GB of ram and 64 GB of storage, meaning if you are looking to do some extensive work that involves higher amounts of storage or processing speed then this may not be the best choice for you. Other than that, though, this laptop is a great morning coffee set up to check your email and news on its large display. This laptop does not fold into a tablet or have touchscreen capability. All in all if you are looking for a nice Chromebook that is easy to set up then I would highly recommend this as a solution for you.

Like a lot of computer enthusiasts (snobs), I have a certain image in my head of what a sub-300 dollar computer is going to be like. That's been borne out with previous products I've reviewed. Usually you get absolutely abysmal performance, an LCD with viewing angles so narrow it looks bad even if you line your face up perfectly, and a keyboard and trackpad that feel like they were made in the 90s. Fortunately, this Asus Chromebook has none of those issues. The CPU is not terribly quick but it's more than enough for web browsing (the speed is felt when changing tabs especially with sevveral open at the same time). The display is kind of insane - the viewing angles are very good and it's 1080p so the 17" size is great without any scaling. And the keyboard is a full size keyboard (with 10 key!!!) with a trackpad that isn't the best I've used but it is still a hinged trackpad with a solid click feel and plenty responsive. The overall fit and finish is also pretty impressive as I'd imagine there's a lot of empty space in the case given the large size of the computer but it's not very creaky and feels solid all the way around. Of course the first thing I did after a basic evaluation was install minecraft on it for my kids, and despite some warnings on the official Minecraft FAQ for Chromebook the N4500 CPU on this device was plenty capable of playing the game without any changes to default settings. Viewing distance at default was only 6 chunks, but even moving it up to max (only 9) it was still playable, if not very smooth. And just for kicks, I signed into GeforceNow and played Witcher 3 at max settings. Kinda silly to see full RTX with DLSS frame generation on an inexpensive Chromebook. It looked and played great! The Asus Chromebook wireless adapter seems to support AX wireless and was able to get pretty decent speeds on my home wireless (about 400 mbps up/down with a wall between the laptop and closest AP). Again that's pretty impressive considering the cost of this device. I haven't tried it yet but I look forward to playing Amazon Luna on this computer as well. Huge recommendation from me. This thing is big and bulky but that's a given when you choose a 17" laptop. I'm glad I got a chance to review it and change my perception of what an inexpensive computer can do!

***IS IT GOOD ENOUGH?:*** Coming from a "full featured" Windows computer, and having owned a Macbook, I was prepared to be completely underwhelmed by this laptop. For the price, however, I was completely surprised at what this Chromebook can do - and what it gets _very right_. ***Display:*** "1080p" and "17.3 inch screen" are hardly words that should go together on a machine geared towards reading, writing, and editing text - or so I thought - but the experience has actually been satisfactory. Text clarity is adequate, even with two pages showing (one on each half of the screen). Viewing angles are good, though panel brightness becomes noticeably varied even straight on because of how vast the panel is. Brightness overall is excellent, however. You could work outside with this. ***ChromeOS:*** If you have extensively used Windows or MacOS, ChromeOS will be slightly different. Navigating feels like a hybrid mix of Windows and Android. If you are an Android user, several ChromeOS features exist to make the experience smooth, like laptop unlocking via a close-by phone. You can also see recently-opened phone tabs and continue browsing on the bigger screen, and recently captured photos appear by clicking a phone-shaped icon. Options to easily do things like link to a network drive, or even start a Linux environment are excellent and novel. 64GB of internal storage is accessible for game installs, files and media. Many Android games are available on the Google Play Store and designed to work using the keyboard and/or a mouse, which brings us to... ***PERFORMANCE:*** As a _very_ affordable device, concessions had to be made. A significant one is the processor, which rears it's ugly head when demanding too many clicks too fast. The computer will appear to hang at times, though eventually working out what you wanted (if you can remain patient and not over-click). From my experience with a 12th Gen i5 CPU, the Celeron struggles - but if you came from a 6th Gen Windows machine, you likely wouldn't notice. Gaming (Asphalt 9) was a struggle, but that is a fairly demanding title. It wasn't unplayable, though - and a kid would likely still have fun. Thousands of titles which are easier to run are accessible on the Play Store, including a non-game I loaded up for drawing and PDF notation. Using it with a mouse is a time-saving game-changer. ***HARDWARE:*** Ports are excellent for the price, as two USB-C slots are available (one on each side) and function with a dock for external displays. There seemed to be a glitch where I couldn't adjust the borders ("overscan") with this, however. A USB-A slot is available for mouse/keyboard dongles and storage is expandable via MicroSD card slot. The keyboard is non-backlit and a bit "clicky", but the travel is low and feel is tacky enough. You will have no problem with typing. The keys, like the rest of the computer exterior, are inexpensive plastic. Internally there are likely some decent heat-sinks, though, as I heard no fan noise and felt a bit of heft when carrying it. Speakers are a bit tin-canny, though get plenty loud. ***CONCLUSION:*** This is a real computer. You won't be running Windows programs on it, but Chrome extensions and Google services allow you to achieve most of what students and casual users will do - and some business use-cases can even be accommodated. Certain things are clunky in the software, and the build-quality is basic, but for the price? Look into whether your use-case can be satisfied. You may not need more. Since it doesn't have the screen, body, speed or speakers I can love, I think it's a 4 star computer.

Huge 17.3" Screen MEDIA and SURFING Chromebook !

First Impressions - It's BIG for a chromebook - of course ! It has a 17.3" Screen. I was still suprised pulling it out of the box as most chromebooks I have used to date have had small 13" or 14" screens. After removing the protective wrapper and flipping it open it powered up and was ready for setup. Setup takes a few minutes and installed obligatory updates. While waiting I linked a bluetooth mouse, surfed around and played a youtube video all at the same time trying to see if I could generate the telltale "overload" in resources that is easy to see on some low end chromebooks. There were no stutters to be seen in the graphics and it moved right along installing some apps as well as a major OS update. All of this took about 10 minutes and I was ready to go. Usage over a one week span - Myself, My wife and my daughter all signed in throughout the course of ten days and used this. I am a total computer nerd so I thought it would be nice to include all of our impressions. My main impression - Fast enough, huge screen that has very good range and excellent blacks. Very high contrast and bright ! Keyboard is a full layout and not cramped. The battery seems endless once charged fully. Great for consuming media and answering emails. My wife - This is huge but I love the screen and how fast it starts up. I don't want to use it on my lap but I could in a pinch. It feels solid and does not flex when positioned poorly. The screen is great ! My Daughter - Wow . . .There is no way I am dragging that thing to school. . . ( She uses a 14" ultrabook style chromebook ) But using this for art with the big screen is great. It feels faster than my chromebook. I love the keyboard. This would be great if I needed a chromebook at home that rarely travelled. Can I just use two chromebooks ? Technical items of note - Great Audio, Screen, Keyboard Layout. Legacy usb ports on BOTH SIDES ! Insane battery life ! What I love - Huge screen - 1920x1080! Great for movies, youtube and general surfing with nearly endless battery power 64GB of eMMC Storage + MicroSD Card Slot for More Storage PORTS !- LEGACY USB PORTS ON BOTH SIDES - THANK YOU ! Full keyboard layout. Room for improvement - An 8FT cord would be nice instead of the 6ft it comes with. No backlit keyboard ? Would be nice but not typical at this price point.

beautifully presented on the outside as well as upon opening the lid....hardware appears to be intact with regard to some performance, there is a slight lull when gathering the next page,.....(some deficiencies are to be expected on any refurbished device), ...but this one for the most part, the lull maybe 2 that I noticed upon using it everyday, for 2 n a half weeks or better is excellent,...for the price description and the color (looks brand new)...you definitely can't afford to pass this machine up....one thing, I love that the background turns dark after about maybe 7pm or better depending on where you live for battery saving purposes

"I recently purchased a brand new Chromebook and I am absolutely loving it! The large screen provides a great viewing experience, whether I'm working on documents or streaming my favorite shows. The speed of this Chromebook is impressive, allowing me to multitask seamlessly without any lag. And the battery life is impressive, keeping me powered up throughout the day without needing frequent charging. Bought it for $229 (sale). The screen is 1080p with wide viewing angles but no IPS panel. The trackpad responds better than my lenovo and HP laptops. Speakers are ok but down firing. Feels better built than my other windows laptops. The chasis shows fingertips. Would have liked a bigger keyboard (there is still a lot of empty space to expand the keyboard). The operative system is new to me but if you have a google account already it should simplify a lot of things, like synchronization between phone ,chromebook and windows computer with a chrome browser. The OS also feels very responsive for my speed and only want to browse the internet, create documents (Word), scan, print (check printer/scanner compatibility as not all work). It feels lightweight for the size but on bestbuy are lighter laptops in this screen size. Seems very expensive at $299 (september 2023).

This chromebook is great for my needs! I was going to buy a another regular laptop but my daughter told me to just buy a chromebook because I only do things on the internet and basically a chromebook is just a browser. The Asus brand had really good reviews and I found one with a big screen like my laptop. It has worked great and not much set up required, just turn it on and get to work! The price I paid was so much less than a laptop and I found it on sale! I am very pleased, I would definitely purchase another if needed!

Bought this for remote desktop work, watching movies and other light duty while traveling. Just for chuckles used it to stream some non-FPS Steam games over the Internet as well. That worked for the most part except an external mouse with a wheel would have helped one of the games which utilized the scroll wheel a lot.
