originally I was looking for the gaming laptop on sale but mistakenly got this one as the sale price was close to the same. But it is awesome, solid feel, alloy shell not plastic, light weight, thin and excellent display. I load programs and store things on the D drive while leaving programs on the SSD. I run engineering programs and it is just as fast as my laptop workstations from Dell and desktop. I can't believe the tech in this for what I paid. I always wanted a Macbook Pro but didn't want to spend twice as much and have to run Windows for my CAD and engineering programs. Wasn't interested in the 2-in-1 feature but it is rather nice and I am not worrying about the screen or other flimsy components being bent and twisted, this is solid.

Well, as the title states, it started off great but ended badly. I bought my laptop June 7, 2019. I needed a new one. My HP Pavilion Notebook had stopped working properly and was slow. I really liked my HP mainly because of the bigger screen, 17.3 in., so I got another one, HP Envy. Unfortunately, whenever I would download the virus protection offer that came with it would knock out the OS and I would have to download the OS. I don't know why this was happening but after the second time, I wasn't feeling too much for HP anymore. I went back to Best Buy but for a different brand and the sales rep there told me about Asus, particularly this model. I wanted a laptop that could handle online gaming and everyday life working on your laptop. He said this model, SUS - 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2TB HDD + 256GB SSD, could handle the task. I got everything I needed for it, namely Microsoft Office and Webroot Internet Security and Antivirus, and the Geek Squad package. Got home and was very pleased with the service and product. I brought it to Geek Squad in November of the same year because it was running slow. There was a virus and they had to "clean" it. Webroot didn't do what it was supposed to do. Lesson learned on this one. Jumping to this year. Sunday, January 31st, I was on my laptop surfing and playing online games. Monday, February 1st, no internet service. I thought that maybe it had disconnected from my internet service. It would do that at times but when I went to reconnect, I didn't see any available network connections. Hmm, okay. Still wasn't too surprised because this had also happened before, although not a lot and all I would have to do is restart my laptop and there would be the available network connections. However, when I restarted this time, the list didn't show. I tried it a couple of times and still no list. Okay, now I'm getting upset. I have papers to write for school! I bring up there and explain to them what had happened. The rep did whatever she does, a diagnostic run on it, and was able to get the list of network connections. Great! But it didn't last long. Now she's wondering what happened. great... But I had to bring it back the next day because of the schedule they have now because of COVID. I bring it back to Best Buy and they keep it. I received a call from them saying they could not fix my laptop because the component that allows the connection to the internet is bad. The laptop isn't even two years old! I bought my laptop June 7, 2019. What happened? I've never dropped it. I didn't even use it every day (I have an iPad). So what had happened? I'm still wondering. Anyways, Best Buy did give me a dollar amount for my laptop, which is the total amount of what I had spent, thank you Best Buy, and I got a desktop iMac. As for Asus, what happened? Oh, and by the way, my HP Pavilion Notebook, which now servers as my backup backup backup laptop (it's the only backup laptop I have at the moment) still works! It may not work properly and it may be very slow starting off but give it an hour and it's going to do what I need it to do in a very hard pinch. Now I'm not saying Asus is a bad company that makes cheap products, I'm not saying that, but THIS particular model didn't make the cut. Not for the money I spent. But I STILL need a laptop!

A good value at a steeply discounted open box price, but pretty iffy anywhere near full price. Not a very modern machine. I had will use it sometimes as a desktop plugged into external peripherals and other times as a walk around laptop. I'd hoped to be able to plug everything but power into a usb dock/hub, but since that does not support hdmi that did not work out so hot. It seems to me like brightness fluctuates sometimes. I hope this is not a sign of impending failure of some kind.

I bought this computer to run photoshop and it does with ease. The only problem I had was the first computer had a defective battery and had to be returned, but thankfully it happened right away, so it was still under the 14 day return for Best Buy. Otherwise the Bamboo Ink pen works great with it. The computer is a litter cumbersome to fold up and use as a tablet though. Nice graphics and fast response.

Pros: Very quick for the price point. Easy setup and not a lot of "junk" pre-loaded Cons: The fan is in fact loud like the reviews say. If you don't want to hear it, don't buy this. It's loud everytime and you'll know it's on. Doesn't bug me, but it may some. Two USB ports only. I should have looked for that on the specs. Power plug in is on the right side so if you're right handed and your mouse is near, could be annoying. Overall great laptop for the price!

Im a Mac person have been for years, But I really love this windows laptop, the battery life is decent, its start up is pretty fast, I love the touch screen/tablet mode. the only thing I would say could be different is when you flip it to tablet mode I don't like having my keys exposed, I wish it was a swivel instead of the flip, even tho the keys are disabled in tablet mode I just don't like them all out like that. But other than that this computer is a beast. and i love it. Im still learning how to use windows again. but I will get there.

I bought this computer last year when it just came out, for a much higher price ($1600). A little over a year passes and the thing just stopped working.. RIGHT AFTER THE WARRENTY! I get a blank black screen. It turns on, I can hear the fans, the screen obviously works cause I can boot up the bios menu, But anything after that, windows does not boot. Screen is just blank. Ive done EVERYTHING to trouble shoot this problem I.E: connecting to and external monitor, static flushing, draining the battery. Ive been trying to look all over the internet for a solution. The only thing i can find is that the motherboard is toast. This isnt cool, i loved that computer and loved asus. But i now i cant trust that company.. Tech support is awful, i cant even get through to them, and now im left with is a $1600 paper weight, and now i have to buy a whole new laptop in just a little over a year later. I would never go through the trouble of writing this review and taking a picture if i myself was the cause of this problem, but people have a right to know before they buy this trash.

This laptop has one of the best 4k displays I have ever experienced and I have seen a lot. The pluses are the low weight, keyboard use and of course the display. Minuses are slow SSD and HDD compared to the competitors the battery life is also terrible.

      Dear Allanj,

Absolutely, it is a great laptop with one of the best 4K display. I do understand your disappointment if you are experiencing slow system speed or performance with the laptop. In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically. If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Also, clearing internet cache or browsing history will improve system performance. If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to help.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

I'll start by saying I am a bit of a tech snob. I researched options extensively before deciding to give this a try, and even knowing a few of the shortcomings, it's still a major disappointment for a $1300 machine. As others have stated, the track pad is a huge miss. Some say that it's not that bad and they don't mind the slight issues. However, mine is just horrible. Sometimes it wont register touch at all, sometimes you can have your finger on it without moving and your pointer will dart all over the screen. Right clicking takes about 3 attempts before it will actually work. It's s shame since the touch pad is a great size, and feels excellent, it just doesn't work. Performance is okay depending on what you want to do with it. It's a dated i7 which actually preforms about the same as the current gen i7, only with lesser on board graphics than current gen. I didn't think that would be an issue since it has a 1050 on board. On paper that sounds like no issue, but when using the laptop the CPU and GPU just don't seem to want to get along. When entering and exiting programs that utilize the GPU, I often encountered freezing, crashing, and poor image quality. Also, when using this for anything graphics intensive you can expect quite a shrill noise from the fans, the pure volume is not that horrible, but the pitch of the fans just makes your hair stand up. I also encountered a lot of issues when switching from laptop mode to tablet mode. Pretty much every time I had a program running it crashed upon switching. My last gripe would be the typing experience. The resistance is so soft that you can't tell when you've hit the button. I also hate....hate that they included a 10 key on the right. The keys are so small and miss placed that it's not usable if you're not staring at it chicken pecking the keys (this coming from an accountant who flies on a 10 key daily). I really wanted to love this computer. The screen is gorgeous, the specs are very enticing on paper, and it feels uber premium in hand. It just doesn't excel at any one thing to make it a valuable purchase. Just sitting on the couch writing this review was a pain with its keyboard and touch pad. Sadly I'll be returning this and will probably end up waiting until the 3rd generation of Surface Books come out.

After my Lenovo was stolen during a break-in last year, I needed a laptop that would be able to run video games and movies to take with me on deployment. I found this model to be exactly what I wanted; discrete graphics(absolutely necessary), dedicated SSD for the OS, and a tablet mode with drawing capability for studying. I had about 3 weeks to set it up and use it before my ship set out for 5th Fleet. During that time, this thing ran like a dream and did what I wanted. I ran video games at mid-level settings and loved the display quality. But the fun lasted about 5 months. While underway, I found myself with pretty limited time to play video games, so my laptop was mostly just used to play movies from an external HDD and hooked up to a TV in the corner of my workcenter; left alone and mildly used in an air-conditioned room for months. During a January port call in Duqm, Oman, I took it to a hotel to take care of some business as I had not had a decent internet connection in more than 60 days. I updated Windows and then tried to get to work just to discover that my wireless adapter had stopped working. I reverted to the previous version of Windows and that did nothing. I found that I could fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, which I would have to do every few hours. Odd, but I would have to figure it out later since I only had about 24 hours off the ship before I would have to go back. This problem persisted and culminated in a gross failure of the wireless adapter once I was back home after deployment. Now it will work ONLY if I hard reset the computer and will stop once I close the lid or let it fall asleep, so now I just use an external adapter. Sounds like a software problem or maybe I just need to replace the adapter. Easy, right? Maybe, but that's not my only problem. About a month and a half ago, I tried booting up a video game. It loaded alright, but something seemed off. As soon as I tried playing, the computer went full potato; the graphics were awful and it lagged more than my grandma's computer on dial-up. I tried to manually enable the discrete graphics for the game from the NVIDIA control panel (which I shouldn't have to do anyway) just to find that my computer no longer recognized my graphics card. Not even in the Device Manager; it just wasn't there! Over the course of several days, I tried every single bit of troubleshooting I could find on the internet short of prying the processor off the motherboard and I arrived at the conclusion that my graphics processor was probably shot. Keep in mind that I had not updated any software prior to this happening. I contacted Asus customer service and they told me I can send them my computer and they would diagnose the problem. The issue is that I would then have to front the cost of repair parts and labor and that my computer would be gone from anywhere between 3 weeks and 3 months if reviews of Asus' repair services are to be believed. So if MY diagnosis is right, I will be without a computer for an extended amount of time just to pay several hundred dollars to get it back to working order. Or I could have a $1,200 pretty laptop that can't do anything beyond stream Netflix. It's a lose-lose scenario. TL;DR in less than one year of use, my laptop lost one of its most attractive features and I barely ever stressed it. Not worth the cost and sheer frustration.

      Dear Chris,

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you.

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, issues you are experiencing with the WIFI and GPU are random.

Please try to resolve the issues by loading default settings in the BIOS, update the BIOS if the laptop is running with an older version. Update Windows if it's outdated. If this was already performed, please do a PC Reset. After a successful reset, please install all feature or cumulative Windows Update, including optional updates for device drivers.

If the above-mentioned steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.

Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage. If you need more information or further assistance with the warranty for the product, please email me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to help. Or, call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.
