Don't buy for OSX!

The box and ASUS website both say this product is compatible with the Mac, but without software it's impossible to use on a mac. This is just ridiculous. If I had known I'd have to purchase additional software to use this product I would have purchased something else entirely. Also, this product requires two USB ports to power the device. If you try to use it with a Macbook Air or any other laptop which has single USB ports per side (ie, one on each side of the laptop) the cord will not reach and will require a USB extension. So if your laptop doesn't have 2 USB ports on the same side (right next to each other) you will need to buy a USB extension cable.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked initially. I authored and produced 5 Blu-ray discs. It stopped recognizing Blu-ray discs thereafter. I tried different desktops and Blu-ray media but to no avail. When I insert a Blu-ray disc, there are some initial read seeks but nothing else. The drive shows in "My Computer" but when I click on it, it prompts for a disc. I even tried to get power from a power outlet instead of the computer's USB drive but to no avail. Absolutely horrible customer support. I described the problem in detail online (while it asked for every detail of my desktop). A week after, I received a generic response that had nothing to do with my request and question. Avoid Asus Blu-ray drives.

Don't buy if you running Mac OS X

Try calling customer service and they told me to return it since the software is not compatible with Mac. No fix, no sorry sir, no nothing. Talking with the customer service rep was like trying to hold a conversation with my cat!!!!! FRUSTRATING!! The product says compatible with Mac, but it really isn't. For what ever you want to use it for you will have to buy software that is compatible with OS X... Never again will I buy another ASUS product ever!!

It has performed flawlessly with my MacBook Pro and my wife's Air. It plays Blu-rays with ease, something apple's "super drive" can't do. It's plug and play. The laptops recognized it right off and continue to do so to this day.
