    Best Router I've ever had

Might be a little pricey or overkill for most but this is the best router I've owned. I bought this to replace the D-Link DIR-890L/R which was an awesome router. I have 2 smart TV's, a laptop and 2 Xbox's connected wired. 4 cell phones, a Firestick, and a laptop connected wireless at 2.4gh. Smart TV, Xbox, and laptop connected wireless at 5gh on band 1. Plus another smart TV and Xbox connected at 5gh on band 2. This router doesn't miss a beat with everything connected. Speeds are lighting fast. Gaming systems do not lag or hesitate. There are options in the software to make games, internet, etc priority, set up security, and a lot of other things which is the overkill part. The only drawback is it's a big router.....bigger than most but I couldn't recommend this router more!!! I have not had ANY issues or disconnect problems as other reviews.

I had numerous issues with my NetGear NightHawk A10 router. I exchanged it for the ASUS AC5300 and everything works like it is supposed to. ..and for what you get, it's well worth the price. 1) Easy Setup. Out of the box to completely set up took less than 10 minutes. 2) Second 5GHz channel. LOVE this. 3) Great throughput. 4) Easy sharing of Network drive/printer. 5) The range is excellent.

The Asus AC5300 has been nothing but extraordinary for the last 10-11 months. I can get nearly full speed (85-90%) anywhere in my house first floor or second, as well as coverage for the front and back yard. The only downside I have found is that my current internet plan tops out at 300/30. Even with this I am consistently hitting over 260 down, and always over 24 up.

Nothing can compare to this MONSTER Router from Asus. I was using my Internet provider (Frontier) and paying extra to get their highest speed and it was a bottleneck until now. I have various devices connected to this Beast from Cell phones, WI-U, PlayStation 3 and 4, couple of printers, tablets and so on. I am blown away with this Tri-Band It is handling everything beautifully I have no dead spots in my house #2 floors plus a basement. Beware with the Arris Modem from U verse or Fios or Frontier not such and easy set up. You need to have your ID and Password to bridge the router that's is it. Other than that it gets 10 Stars********

    Best router I've ever owned

This is by far the best router I've ever had, it has excellent signal strength and coverage. I love the user interface, it's very easy to find whatever settings you're looking for and it can apply changes without restarting. To me, some very important features are Parental control and Firewall settings. Parental control allows you to set a schedule on specific devices in your network and for parents with young children that's a blessing. Firewall allows you to block specific sites, domains, keywords etc. Asus routers can do this by themselves, without having to go through 3rd party apps and I absolutely love it. I would say I'm pretty much a tech savvy individual, I like to have the latest technology and always set it up myself. Before buying this Asus AC-RT5300 I had 2 Linksys routers (WRT-1900AC and WRT3200ACM). I bought the WRT1900AC first when it came out on the market and having a Linksys that ran perfectly for many years I decided to give Linksys credit for the future too. Good router, decent coverage, good speeds, very nice user interface (it has Parental controls also, but for site filtering I had to go with OpenDNS). However it didn't cover my entire house very well so I bought the WRT3200ACM when it came out, thinking of it as an upgrade. That was a big disappointment, it offered nothing more than the WRT1900AC and despite of the firmware updates it was flawed by the numerous jams (at some point I would have to reset it daily). Anyway, the two Linksys routers I had them bridged together to have a good coverage in my home, with the 3200ACM being the main router. And having it acting up all the time, I heard "Dad, Internet's down again..." every day till I couldn't take it no more. It was time for a change and I initially went for Netgear Nighthawk X6 that had a very good price on Black Friday 2017. Nothing bad to say about it, fabulous hardware but the software interface needs some work, interface is simplistic and unintuitive. This router had very good coverage (same or better than the two bridged Linksys), ran for weeks without having to reset. If you can find it at a great price and don't care about Parental controls, by all means buy it, it's a good one. To me, the lack of built in Parental controls (it had a Parental controls menu that would take you to a 3rd party application which was trying to charge a monthly subscription fee and that threw me off) so I returned it and went for the ASUS RT-5300AC. This is where my search stopped, I like everything about Asus and the only regret I have now is sticking with Linksys for so many years and not giving others a chance. ASUS is even putting out new firmware that allow people to use their older ASUS routers together in a mesh system.

Amazing performance and range. I bought this to upgrade an older AC-3100 and configure it in AiMesh. Works as planned. Better range than Google WiFi easily.

The router itself is good. Speed, features, range - everything is as you would expect from high-end router with a hefty price tag from the reputable company. With that said, can't ASUS find a programmer and designer to make an app that's on a par with it? The "ASUS Router" App looks ugly, some weird animation that serves no purpose, many features don't work, including Parental Controls - the feature so nicely implemented in the GUI. No device grouping. Disabling-enabling device's access to internet completely erases it's Access Schedule?? ASUS, look at the EERO app - you might learn something from this start-up!

    Poor Service from Asus

I bought this router to replace a Netgear N750 router I had. The set up was great and the UI is next to none in terms of functionality and features. However, Asus' latest firmware is defective and continues to cause the router to disconnect from the Internet. I had to reboot it everytime to get it working again. The device would start up fast and within 3-6 hours, it would start slowing down till it was downright useless. I exchanged the router thinking it was a defective unit. The replacement had the same exact issue. I searched Asus support forum and noticed that others are having the same issue with this router. I ended up returning it and getting a Netgear X8 and that has been solid thus far. Real shame though. The ASUS UI was awesome but the device suffers from bad firmware.
