Primarily using this laptop for development using Unreal 4.10. Have owned it for about two months at this time and have had no issues. No dead pixels, no sound problems, no application crashes or BSOD. Limited actual gaming time, but it has ran GTA5, Skyrim (with some mods), Rust and DayZ without an issue and with a respectable frame rate.
This configuration is a great balance of cost vs performance as the upgrade to the 980M runs a couple hundred dollars. The 970M has worked for all my needs up to this point both in gaming and rendering. It's incredibly easy to add an SSD into the available M2 slot, which would be my main suggestion for an upgrade.
The biggest issue I had was finding a bag to carry it in! I ended up getting the Everki Beacon backpack which works really well.

I broke my gaming desktop and needed to buy a new gaming PC so i could play again, I couldn't really afford something big and my boyfriend recommended this laptop for me. For the price, it's pretty f*cking great. Multitasking is great, Customizing it to my needs is simple, and Gaming runs solid at great quality.
I can play big games easily and i love it overall.
The only issue i've come by is when my laptop starts up, theres red and white streaks when it loads up but it goes away once it's on. Just a lose connection when it was shipped, wasn't really something that i couldn't fix.

So I ordered this computer on April 2, 2016 and received it today, April 6 and had problems right out of the box. The first problem I noticed was quite a bad buzz with the speakers when volume is only halfway up, which is pretty terrible for a $1,299 computer to do this and not my four year old $329 HP Pavilion 17.3". But that's not the main problem. The big problem I am experiencing is this laptop is not holding a charge. The battery level has remained on 77% and says "Plugged in, Charging" but isn't because as soon as I pull the power chord out, the laptop cuts off. I expected this laptop to be a lot better than a inexpensive little computer I bought four years ago. The speakers do not buzz and the battery can hold a charge. however, the speed of the computer is lightning fast and very responsive, which is why I'm giving this review an extra star than what I was going to. This would not be Best Buy's fault, this is the manufacturer's fault. I will be sure to edit this review as soon as I receive a properly working system.

I recently purchased this unit for my daughters upcoming high school graduation; she is off to college in the fall taking up engineering, so we will be running CAD programming, etc., and will need a quick unit with strong graphics. I reached out to the managers at our local Best Buy and then recommended this unit. I have it already set up for her, and in the time that I have used it, you can tell that this computer will rock! It should serve her well this coming fall and beyond.

Never again wasting money on an Asus laptop. Got this one back in 2015. After 2 years of owning the laptop, the battery went bad (as expected with any laptop) so after using it for 3 years with a bad battery, I purchased a new one because Geek Squad sucks and so does Asus customer support, and in order to change out the battery you have to completely unassemble this laptop. By completely, I mean you have to take out the dvd thing, the keyboard, the screen, like 50 tiny screws, the speaker, the wifi antenas, EVERYTHING. After 4 hours fighting with this crap, I replaced the battery and now it works fine again. Too much trouble to change it. A complete pain to do this. Don’t waste your money.

I had this item shipped to my home and received it about a week ago. I am absolutely blown away!
First off, for a laptop in this price range, you will not easily find a better balance of components. I can play almost all modern games at a comfortable frame rate.
Second, the cooling is really quiet and had not been an issue. Just be sure to keep ample room behind the casing of the laptop.
And last, compatibility is impressive. Hdmi, thunderbolt, nvidia G sync, and other stuff. Sometimes I put up a game on the tv, hook up a Bluetooth controller and play like a console!
It's an overall awesome laptop for the price. Hard to beat with even the clevo barebone models.

I exchanged my Lenovo y50 for this and it was the best decision I could've made. Boots incredibly fast, runs games flawlessly at ultra settings. An overall great laptop that is great for gaming and the overall construction is just great. This will replace your desktop..

I bought the first laptop on December 31st. That one arrived the following week. The problem with that laptop was that whenever a web browser was opened, or when a program within the computer was opened the speakers would crackle. (Similar to the sound that a plugged in mic makes when it is attached to a desk or something and is moved. That kind of sound).
I returned that one and the same exact day ordered my second one. This one arrived and worked flawlessly. I had it for 3 days. On the fourth day I opened the laptop, since it was closed, and the screen flickered and then I had a purple haze over the screen. A restart didn't fix the problem. I know that usually means a connection problem with the video card and/or a problem with the video card itself. So I returned that laptop.
I ordered my THIRD and final one again. This one arrived with the purple haze problem from the beginning. So I had to return the laptop right away.
That was 3 times I had ordered a laptop, 3 times I had to go to best buy to return it. And as I write this review it is 3 weeks that I have been without a laptop. I had high hopes for this since it is a Asus laptop. Well, I've moved on and I ordered another manufactures laptop.
PS- I have read some reviews that say it has a fast boot up time. I timed it. The boot time was (from off to desktop screen) 1minute and 33 seconds. I don't consider that a fast boot up time at all, but others might. For reference, my 3 year old Alienware laptop has a boot time of just under 1 minute.
