The good: GTX 970m 3gb i7 6700HQ Great build quality. Does not feel cheap, Plastic parts are sturdy. The keyboard: Good responsive keyboard is a joy to game and type on. The bad: The screen: This screen is a 1080p matte TN pannel. It looks a bit fuzzy and the colors aren't great... but with that said, it is still an OK screen. The HDD: Do yourself a favor and immediately buy an M.2 NVME SSD. The 5400 rpm Seagate Momentus HDD really hurts this computer. It feels slow and sluggish, but with this being a hybrid HDD it will feel better... eventually. The touchpad: The touchpad on this feels terrible. Its not very sturdy, it isnt very responsive, and just overall feels bad. The orange: its SO ORANGE. Straight up high contrast SAFETY CONE ORANGE. And its literally everywhere. Even the fin arrays on the inside of the laptop have been painted ORANGE. There is no escape!!!! Conclusion: Overall this is a GREAT gaming laptop, assuming that you will be using a gaming mouse and not the horrible touchpad. The laptop is quick and responsive and can play everything Ive thrown at it so far on almost max settings with terrific framerates without getting too hot. As far as laptops with these specifications go this is by far the cheapest ive seen. Price to performance wise it completely blows everything else in the same category out of the water.

I love my new laptop. I finally got my first gaming laptop after having multiple HP's AND I got it at a great price too. I can now play my full library of Steam games on high/ultra settings with absolutely no issues or lag, and better yet, on the go when I travel. Currently playing Skyrim (exhanced edition), Doom, Battlefield 1, and the Dead Island series. All are absolutely beautiful! I think I've become a loyal Asus fan for life. I cannot be happier.

    Amazing laptop for the price

This laptop is Amazing for the price. The price I was able to get it for was below 800 dollars. This was a steal considering latops of this build quiality and performance at least cost about 850 to 1000 dollars. Some issues are that the trackpad acts a bit funny sometimes. If this happens I find that if you disable the trackpad and re-enable it, it will fix it self. Another issue is that I have to push really hard to get andy usb devive in the port's of this laptop. This also happen on the last asus laptop I bought so maybe this is reaccuring. The last issue is that this laptop has a little to much branding on it. I'm saying this because the Giant light up rog logo attracted many people to me in my school. Also at the time that I am reviewing this product (about one month after I bought it) The price has increase from 820 to 1000. At the price that im seeing right now I wouldent buy it and rather invest in the laptop with a 105ti.

    Good but heat issues

Definitely get a cooling pad with this guy cause when turbo boost kicks in the cpu hits around 95c. Pretty hot for a brand new laptop. In case ur wondering how i solved this u can do a quick fix by adjusting advanced power options and setting the cpu to max at 98%. This will keep turbo from cooking in. Unless of course u bought this as a stove top, in that case apply bacon to just above the keyboard and give it a few mins. Bon apetite! Ps. Its a steal though perf wise if u can get it for under 1200

This is a great system it has a long battery around 4 to 6 hrs depending on settings and what you are doing for a gaming laptop it's great. The NVIDIA GTX 970 is a great video card. The only 2 downsides to this laptop is the screen bleeding at the bottom of the screen but it's not a turnoff, the other problem is the drive speed it is slow about 5200 rpm slow so if you are going to buy this laptop, get yourself a fast SSD and do a drive swap the load times are bad. but other than that it is a great system.

I have only had this computer a few days but am very pleased with it. It is fast and has not crashed on me yet. I wanted something that had an i7 processor and separate graphics card as I like to do some home video editing. It fit my needs well.

    Great Value Gaming Laptop

Hello, and thanks for reading my review. This is a great computer. It is thin, feels very well built, the metal face is a nice touch, and the GPU is sufficient for the games I play (Skyrim, TF2, some older games, some new games). No, the HD is not 7200 RPM, no, it does not boot in two seconds, but then again you aren't paying 1500-3000 for a laptop like a top of the line ASUS, MSI, Razer, Alienware. That being said, for the price, this is a great computer. To address most of the negative reviews for this laptop; If the HDD concerns you, there is an open M.2 slot for a SSD. I will not utilize this because I feel it is more than sufficient for my needs. Your needs may differ. I do recommend this laptop.

NEVER BUY ANY ASUS PRODUCT EVER!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Warning: If you buy any ASUS product, in my case a higher end laptop (this exact computer), and it breaks (manufactures warranty or not) THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS COMPLETELY USELESS. Had repeated and various problems and sent back laptop (4) times, all refurbished and non-functional. After the fourth time, I was promised a new model, still in the litigation process, been a month now and they are trying to send me another refurbished same model. I work as a supervisor in State Government and will do everything in my limited power to use a different company for Government business. Best Buy was excellent, and fully understand that models break down, but was severely disappointed in the customer service from ASUS. Buyer be extremely cautious. I just lost 1200$ to ASUS and have nothing to show for it. I was always told how great of a company ASUS was and how great their components are but that is NO LONGER TRUE! They have not won any significant awards since 2013 (you can look that up) and are no longer this great company. I bought the computer 11 months ago and have not had the computer in my possession for 4 of those 11 months. Here is my story, if you want the details of what I went through: I bought an ASUS notebook (Republic of Gamers) in 12/2015.....it failed in April 2015 for a failed component in my charger, it fried my daughter board, sent into their repair center....3 weeks later got the same model back and fixed...it failed AGAIN in July 2015 with a failed Intel Graphics card.... sent back to repair center....ANOTHER 3 weeks later got the same computer back fixed......failed AGAIN in Aug. 2015, failed NVIDA graphics card....sent in to repair...3 weeks later got a refurbished same model replacement.....had that for 3 weeks then failed AGAIN when a component failed in my screen....sent back in to repair center...3 weeks later got MY 2ND REFURBISHED same model and it came BROKEN!! It didn’t even work when I got it. I sent that model in the repair center, got there 11/4, they mixed up my RMA number so I did not match my serial number, took a week to figure that you, I was promised by their top supervisors that with this many failed model I would be eligible for a new, upgraded different model replacement. Couldn’t get ahold of the supervisor I have been talking to, she was avoiding my phone calls. I got an email from the support center that they are offering me AGAIN, THE SAME MODEL REFURBISHED replacement for the 3rd time. If I was to reject this offer, and they choose not to offer me anything else, they said they are going to SEND BACK MY BROKEN COMPUTER and that would be it! The customer support said they actually have nothing to do with what replacement you would get. It’s all up to the repair center, and you cannot speak to the repair center, because, “it is not in their job description to talk to the public.” All this has happened while in the manufactures warranty. I bought the computer 11 months ago and have not had the computer in my possession for 4 of those 11 months. Once again, beware, if you decide to go with ASUS because you are risking hundreds or thousands of dollars (in my case).

I upgraded from a 2010 dell, and I can say for the price I payed for this laptop it was well worth it, I haven't played a game where I couldn't run on high or ultra settings. It also always keeps fps very stable. I do very much like the cpu boosting it give so you always have the needed power. I would highly recommend it to someone who is wanting a gaming laptop.

    Wrong display panel

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a great computer at a great price. But, it is advertised on both the Best Buy and the Asus website as having an IPS display. The reality is it comes with a TN panel. I have asked Asus support to fix this issue and here is their response. "Thank you for taking time reaching out to ASUS - North America Escalations team. I reviewed your complaint and found nothing wrong with the product. IPS is a sub category of TN Panels. If you are not sure, here is the part number of the notebook LCD panel, 18010-15602800. It will show you that it is an FHD panel that uses IPS technology." That response prompted me to contact Asus parts about the panel and they confirmed it is indeed a TN panel. Until Asus fixes the advertising or starts shipping the computer with the correct display panel I would not recommend buying it.

Bought this laptop today and I was disappointed. I bought it mostly for gaming and school work but it has some wi-fi issues. I have a very fast Wi-fi at home. When downloading games and anything else on this laptop the downloading speed is very slow and I mean SLOW. I have other computers at home and they are much much faster connected to the same wifi. It seems Asus has put a cheap wifi card in these laptops. I tried updating drivers etc but nothing seems to work. The only way to get fast speeds is by using Ethernet connection which is stupid if you have a laptop. Not to mention the colors on this screen are all washed up.

At least part. It is a visual, and great running laptop. But, it gets very, very hot after playing games after a bit. I need to take it back today and exchange it. I'm hoping it don't still do it.

    Computer restarts unexpectedly

I purchased this laptop and received one that unexpectedly goes to a blue screen that states windows has encountered an error and must restart regularly. I shrugged it off as sometimes products are defective. So I went ahead and exchanged the laptop for another one and ran into the same issue this is unacceptable and I will be returning for my money back I am 2 hours away from Best Buy so this is very inconvenient, I will be returning for a refund. I would think twice before purchasing this product.

    Worst laptop

I got this for Christmas to play some games on PC. You would think it can run games since it's a gaming laptop but I was playing and then the laptop turned off and never turned on again. And I thought maybe this one was faulty so then I went back to Best Buy and got another one of these and it happens again! Not just once but 3 times its happened.
