This computer isn’t as powerful as we originally thought. We tried to load a program at the same time we tried to load the data from my old computer. This maxed it out and it froze up. We had to restore to original settings and start loading things one at a time. It will work for me — just have to watch how many things I am doing at one time.

I got this for my little brother and I thought it was just a gaming computer for dumb video games. I was completely wrong everything more lightning fast and he loves it! It’s a bit bulky but for a teenage boy that isn’t a problem at all. It’s quite sturdy as well since he’s dropped it before and nothing has happened to it.

Don't get me wrong this is a very decent computer. We purchased it about 18 months ago. It's just not what we originally had and because of technical difficulties of the original computer we had to settle for this one. The got as close as they could to what we originally had.

    Amazing but with MAJOR Downsides

My 4 star rating is very deceiving. There are some glaring problems with this laptop that I will address. I am answering Best Buy's favorite question with a Yes*, but that asterisk is because I would NOT recommend this anyone not up to or capable of diagnosing major issues with the laptop. Pros -FAST - You wont find a faster laptop at this price point. In my testing it got 1100-1200 in Cinebench and a scored very well in benchmarks like Unigine Superposition and the GTA V benchmark(maxed settings with 4x MSAA at 60fps) -Looks - Amazing IMO, I was worried I wouldn't like the brushed aluminium on the back because it looks flashy on the store page. IRL it looks amazing all around. -Build - Extension of the last point but all around its solid but also freaking heavy. I was like 5 pounds whatever, it's super not that its got a significant heft to it. Top and whole keyboard and wrist area are aluminium while the monitor bezel and bottom are very nice feeling plastic -Keyboard - Nice feeling with solid travel and don't feel mushy when bottomed out. Key wobble is next to zero. Button size is somewhat strange though, the number pad are all strangely shaped and the F row is slim. The space bar is the weird "gamer" shape. RGB and media controls are a nice addition. -Trackpad - It feels alright but not nearly as bad as I see some people say. All windows precision actions work and the surface is large enough with decent palm rejection. -IO - Pretty good but lacks and SD card slot. Display port would have been nice instead of or in addition to hdmi but I understand why. The thunderbolt 3 port is also a very nice addition as it has 4 pcie lanes making it suitable to use an external GPU in the future. Cons -Loud - I don't really mind because when I use it at my desk I have headphones on and if I take it somewhere ambient sounds usually overpower it. There's an option for "Overboost" mode in the settings and I would recommend keeping this on when possible. Balanced and silent modes thought keeps the sound down and thermals decent while performing normal tasks. -Heat - With the fans in Overboost I ran FurMark the real get the GPU going and it never went over 70 C which is acceptable. The CPU on the other hand can get out of control very fast quickly hitting 80 C when in hitting it hard. I would recommend putting higher quality thermal paste on it your comfortable with that. - Now comes the real killer and the reason I would recommend this to anyone who can't diagnose there own problems. I believe this was cause by me lifting the laptop from the left corner with no other support but after that the WiFi just stopped working. I got a little WiFi symbol with a red x, Windows diagnostics said there was either a driver or hardware related error. After fiddling with the drivers for 20 minutes to no success I decided to open is up and see if there was a physical problem with the WiFi card. Nothing seemed wrong with it but I unplugged it and used a can of compressed air on the socket and re-seated it. Problem Fixed! But that's my point. The first night of owning it the WiFi failed of a physical reason. I'm not sure how many future problems I may run into but owners of this laptop need to be aware of things like this. You don't find things cheap like this without small problems and it seems like Asus has chose many small problems over one or two glaring ones. I would recommend this to a friend on the condition they know what they're doing with electronics.

This laptop is a workhorse. It's great for gaming with it's GTX 1060, 144 refresh rate 1080p screen, and great cooling. Only "downside" I can think of is that the screen is not as bright as the top of the line $2000 gaming laptops but its not subpar by any means. Totally recommend this laptop.

DONT BUY THIS LAPTOP AT BEST BUY!!!! GPU ISSUES AND BEST BUY ARE GIVING NO HELP FIXING IT. I purchased this laptop just over a month ago. Within the first week in the middle of playing a game it would kick me out with the error “render device not located”. So I went back to Best Buy for help fixing the issue. They recommended reinstalling the drivers for the NVIDIA 1060 and if that didn’t work the geek squad could help me with finding the issue or give me a new laptop. I did a basic reinstall of the drivers with the GeForce application, which didn’t work. I then used the uninstall program through windows which seemed to fix the issue. However three weeks later it was back. I went back to Best Buy to have them fix it, and they said it would cost me 200$ for them to even look at it since it was past the return date. Best Buy just gave me a quick fix so that they wouldn’t have to do anything to help fix my computer. Now I have to go through ASUS and probably will have to mail it off to find out what’s wrong with it. So sad because when it works it is a great laptop.
