I was looking for a solid gaming laptop with Linux support and Asus has historically came through with performance and excellent hardware support for Linux. Everything "Just works" with Ubuntu flavors, Fedora, or Arch if your into that sort of thing ;). Cant got wrong with this laptop! Joe

One evening the system just shut off and will not power back on. Called bestbuy 5/6/20... waited for a box to ship it back never came. I was finally able to get an appointment with Geek Squad 6/23/20 the shipped it into repair depot. They said the warranty was no longer valid because the purchase was over a year ago and would cost $620 for a new motherboard. The system quit running 11 MONTHS after purchase! Pretty decent specs at this price. Needed a laptop as I’m traveling by air more these days, so hauling my gaming desktop isn’t an option. This has enough space for your average gamer, and is pretty easily upgraded. Good specs for most games at decent quality and FPS.

I don't actually do gaming on my computer, but I do alot of computer modeling and programming, so I need a powerful computer. Calculations that took 5 minutes to run on my old computer (2017 i7500, 12GB RAM) run in like a minute on this. Highly recommend!

    Dissapointed with the Key Board

I am not a gamer; I needed a GTX card for stock broker platform I thought ASUS was a good value. i was going to buy MSI but some sales person at the Mt Laurel, not so smart, I am afraid asked me to buy ASUS. When I rejected the idea because I do not like the lighted key board, he persisted. He told me it will be OK once you turn off the keyboard lights. He failed to tell me that once you turn off the lights or even dim it to only 33% brightness, you can barely see the keys; even in the day light or the lights over head. i wear glasses and lights bother me so I turned them off completely and could nto work at all. The reaosn being the keys are Translucent. If Kevin were an expereinced sales person, he would have highlighted this factor but he totally misguided me.

I purchased a replacement Apple Pencil because I stupidly broke my first one (my fault--not a defect in any way). The Second Generation Pencil (works with newest iPad Pro) is exactly what it purports to be. Well engineered, and a must-have accessory for the iPad Pro.

Very nice, fast laptop, and to rub xplane pretty smoothly. However, i was upset to learn that one of the hard drives in it, was already failing, and did fail upon arrival away the asus manufacturer. Ts only 8 months old? Should not have failed already? Why?

So I still love my desk top more , but when you need a gaming laptop this can’t be beat for the price. The only con is the fans are super loud and when they turn on you will think It started raining outside . Otherwise I have nothing negative to say about this laptop .

The computer comes with most things working properly, my one big trouble is that it keeps telling me that the ASUS charging app is not working and needs updating. No update is available. Generally a good over all computer for business and pleasure.

I use this laptop for my VR (Vive) and it really works great. I've never had a problem. The silent mode for the fan is really quiet so while at school is not really loud. Once you use windows power manager to get the battery to where you want it, it will be fine.

Couldn't have been more disappointed in this laptop. It worked find for about a month before it had several issues. First, I found out that the graphics card isn't supported by Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, but I guess that isn't a problem if you don't use those programs. I do have to, however, and they both run extremely slow on this computer, even though it's supposedly built to run games. Shortly after, I started running into a number of other issues. The speaker would occasionally be messed up and when I played any audio, it would come put muffled and distorted. I usually just have to wait it out before it becomes normal again. The headphone jack stopped working one day. Bluetooth earbuds don't even play sound. The battery life is the worst. If I don't have the laptop plugged in, the battery percentage will start going down one percent a second. It'll die even before it reaches 0%. Even if I don't have it turned on, the battery still drains when unplugged. It could be fully charged when I bring it to my classes, but by the time I get there, the laptop is already dead. The problems are endless. I thought a $1.2k laptop would be a lot better than this, but it's not worth it at all.

I was a sceptical customer about buying a gaming laptop. I jumped from a asus touch screen laptop with a i3 chip to this machine. Fast boot up and quite. Popped my vr head set to it and i was in heaven. This us my mobile desktop. Well worth every penny.

This is replacement for my 4 year of one, Feels solid and no clickie cheaply made fleeting to it. Runs well even at top settings. It’s doesnt have 1070 or 1080 but even with 1060, it plays well most of the games. Love the screen and the brightness of it.

So far, this computer has treated me well. It runs my games at max graphics without issue (granted I don't run a lot of graphic intensive games). The SSD space is a bit limited so I can't install a lot of games on it, but that works just fine for my purpose.

Best Buy sells it and ASUS puts their name on it. Nothing more needs to be said. Highest quality laptop for the value. High end for gaming or serious overkill for streaming/regular work. Amazing laptop.

I cant even count how many issues we have had with this computer. First it started off having a battery that lasted about 30 minutes. We then had to wait two weeks to get another one. After that one of the button didn't work and had to spend an entire week chatting with Geek Squad agents trying to fix this issue. After that the computer just decided it didn't want to connect to the internet so we had to schedule an appointment with Geek Squad at best buy to fix it. Then all of my games were dropping frames even with graphics settings set to low. We had to send it back for two weeks and spend 100 dollars so they can replace the mother board and the video card because those two had gone bad. Now the 3.5mm audio jack wont allow me to speak clearly to my friends through discord. I know its not discord because I still have the settings from when it used to work, and I know its not my headset because it works fine on PS4. We have spent about 800$ dollars trying to fix this piece of crap which for a 1,200$ computer brings the total all the way up to 2,000. Unless you are willing to have constant issues and spend 800$ more then you need to I would suggest got buy something else that is not going to cost you time and money.

My kids love this computer. It’s a mid-level gaming computer. Purchased two of them and after about a month one of them completely shut down. The operating system failed. We took it to Best Buy and they exchanged it with no problem.

Works really well, Asus gaming software is great. Fans are loud-ish but I’m fine with them since the GPU is not the throttled down Max-Q version of the 1060, the laptop is 0.7” thin and it didn’t cost nearly as much as a Razer equivalent.

Great for fort nite, graphics, play time on battery and controls are all worth the little bit extra we paid. Use if a turtle beach headset which required an updated driver, at no cost. Seems to be just the right size screen.. not too big, not small.

The photos on the website don't do this laptop justice at all. I was surprised when I opened it to find that nearly the entire laptop is metal with the exception of the plastic bottom plate. While the bottom feels a little weak, the rest of the machine feels incredibly solid and has a fit and finish similar to an Apple laptop. The area around the keyboard is a nice feeling smooth texture while the top is a brushed look with a light-up ROG logo. Opening up the lid reveals a full size keyboard with a full numeric keypad under an area containing the fans and speakers. The speakers are very good for a laptop this thin with a decent amount of bass (the startup sound startled me but is really awesome sounding!) and the fans are efficient. They are a little loud when under stress but not in an annoying way. The keyboard is backlit and you can tweak colors and patters like any other gaming keyboard. The lighting mostly comes through the letters on the keyboard, so it's not obnoxious but also not very exciting looking. The first thing I did was load up my Steam account and run the Steam VR benchmark app since I have a Vive. It rated as VR ready, fairly close to the top of the graph. Also to note is this machine has a new Intel six-core processor, so processor intensive VR tasks like tracking will be handled easily. If you're looking for VR on the go, this machine is the perfect balance of size, price and power. It should be noted that the first couple of times I ran the test it failed and said the built-in Intel video was not sufficient. It took me a while to realize the Nvidia GTX1060 is disabled when running on battery power. Once I plugged in the power supply it ran fine. I'm not sure if there's a way to force the discrete graphics on battery power. It would probably chew through the battery in no time, anyway. I also ran Gears or War 4 and it looked and ran amazing with most of the settings turned all the way up. Again, the speakers sounded great, if a little shrill. The power supply is a beast, but is also thin and light. Since this has a big integrated video card this is a requirement. The brick stays surprisingly cool under load. The screen is bright and has a matte finish. Viewing angles are excellent. The screen keeps constant color and brightness no matter now the lid is angled or how off-axis you sit. Also, it's a 120Hz screen. Once you play games in 120Hz you will be spoiled and hate 60Hz panels! The lid also works to prop the back up just a little to allow better airflow when it's open. It's a small, smart feature! Boot time is nearly non-existent thanks to the SSD boot drive. The SSD is small, but you're going to keep most of your media on the 1TB spinning drive. I would have preferred a 2TB drive to hold my Steam library. There is no obvious way to upgrade the HD. There isn't a trap door on the bottom, but it may be possible by removing the backplate. Inside the box is the usual documentation, some ROG stickers and a keychain of all things. At this price a slip case would be really cool to have, but the extras are appreciated. The packaging is really nice and is fitting for a more expensive laptop. Overall this is a great machine for gaming on the go and can be a full desktop replacement. The extra processor cores make it perfect for video editing and transcoding. It's also fairly future-proof given that he USB-C port is also Thunderbolt. Once games evolve past the GTX1060 you can always run a desktop card in an enclosure over Thunderbolt.
