Gaming Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My graphics card went from giving me 120 FPS down to 30. When I had geek squad check it they told me that was the full capability of the GPU.

Garbage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop with a GSP and when it started it was okay, then the volume kept lowering and raising, I tried fixing it but nothing would work. Geek Squad sent it for repairs, when I got it back the issue was still there, I ended up having to spend another month without a computer while it got sent out again. The service center found it unrepairable so it got junked out. I would not recommend this computer but I do recommend getting a GSP.

Great Performance, Great Price!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start off by saying this is probably the best computer I've ever owned. It has plenty of power for gaming and runs like a dream. The screen looks nice, the keyboard feels good to type on, and has decent sound quality. There are very few down sides to this computer and they're minor things at that. The biggest thing is the loudness of the fan. It's only really noticeable when using resource heavy programs and it does a decent job of keeping the PC cool. The other issue is the boot up sound. Even if the computer was muted before shutdown, upon startup, the computer plays a relatively loud sound when the RoG logo comes up. Like I said, this is a small drawback, but if I turn on the computer around other people, they're sure to notice. Remember this if you're planning on using this as a school computer and are turning it on during class.

One of the Best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I begin my review, I would like to list some performance stats on this laptop for those who are interested: 3DMark (Time Spy): https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26311020? Userbenchmark: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/8471046 (Note that the calculated percentage scores are skewed since the SSD was not included in the tests). GAMES: TOMB Raider: HIGH (DEFAULT) 63 fps Rome Total War II: ULTRA (DEFAULT) 89.9 fps Witcher 3: ULTRA (DEFAULT) ~45 fps SSD Read/Write: 986MB/s | 458MB/s Max temperatures observed (celsius): CPU 96 | GPU 69 | SSD 52 With Laptop Cooler: CPU 89 | GPU 68 | SSD 47 Now, on to the review. I would like to start by saying this laptop exceeded many of my expectations both as a gaming laptop and as a workstation machine. There are many small changes that I realized really annoyed me on other laptops, but not on this one. PROS: The layout of the I/O ports and overall usability is amazingly well thought out. The only ports that are on the right side is one USB 3.0 and thunderbolt. The rest are on the left side, which is perfect for when you have a mouse and other things to connect. You're not cluttering your mouse with wires. The keyboard is very responsive, and the keys give a satisfying feeling when typing. There is no flex at all when applying force on the keyboard. Up top there are four extra buttons to control the volume, mute mic, and open the ROG Gaming Center (for configuring the laptop). It has been surprisingly useful to have those volume buttons instead of awkwardly using the FN key. Another thing to point out is that the palm rest never gets hot, and I mean NEVER. I've ran numerous benchmarks and played games for over an hour without feeling like my left hand is burning up. The only component to feel hot is near the speakers. Speaking of which, the speakers were also quite surprising. I did not expect them to sound as good as they do. Usually, laptop speakers sound more "tinny" with little to no bass. However, these perform close to the level of a decent Bluetooth speaker. Other things to point out is the aesthetics of this laptop. It looks very sleek, leaning more towards the side of professionalism as opposed to the gamer aesthetics. CONS: There is very little to talk about here. If I had to put one, it is that I feel the included 1TB SSHD could have been better. You will notice immediately when downloading Steam games to this drive that it's just very slow. In task manager, I saw it was allocating space at a speed of ~6 MB/s, compared to my other laptop with a 7200 rpm drive that does it at 15 MB/s. Some things other things to keep in mind if this laptop interests you: -While this is very similar to ASUS' Zephyrus lineup, it isn't quite the same. The internal specs are more or less the same with a couple of exceptions- 1. No GSYNC display, instead you get a 120Hz display 2. No fans that lift up when you lift the lid -The GTX 1060 that is included is not the MAX-Q design, meaning the performance is much better than the MAX-Q cards. -For those looking to expand, you can open the back cover easily enough by removing all the screws, and then pressing the clips near the side vents to lift the cover off. There are 2 DIMMS overall, with one available, meaning you can add more memory without having to replace the existing 16GB of ram. My Final thoughts on this laptop is that it is an amazing machine. The newest i7-8750H combined with a GTX 1060 allows this machine to rival high end desktops. At 1080p, it seems you can throw any game at it without experiencing lag. You can tell that ASUS put in a lot of thought in designing this to satisfy the gamer population. If you're on the fence, I'd say go for it. I highly doubt you will be disappointed with your purchase.

||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop was great while it lasted ...our 1 warranty ran up on 4/16/2020 - Blue screen issue and completely crashed, 4/21/2020 ... GeForce Video card is completely trashed -Our IT guy couldn’t get it to boot on any operating system. What a waste ... now we just have an expensive piece of garbage..

Didnt last
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer stopped working after 14 months of normal use and light gaming. Sent in to Asus and was told it would be over $900 to fix plus I think it was a $80 diagnosis fee... very disappointing purchase especially for it to fail 2 months past warranty expiration.

Money well spent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is amazing. Not only is look quite classy for a gaming laptop and the build quality second to none, but it has also lasted me over 6 years at this point with no issue. In that time I’ve gamed moderately and used it as a daily driver otherwise. I’ve only had to clean the fans once and it continues to hum along happily. 10/10 solid purchase

Complete failure
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The computer started crashing every 15-20 minutes forcing a reboot. The manufacturer said that we should just return it because they didn’t know how to fix it. Thankfully we were in the return period and Best Buy took great care of us. Do not buy this computer!

Great Computer for the price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price this is a great computer. It is the low end of the Asus Zephyrus M line. It does not include the AAS cooling system or the G-sync. I use mine on a desk so I don't notice the heat. The fans are noticeable but not near as bad as I thought they would be after reading the comments. The battery life isn't the greatest. There are settings to extend battery life but I wouldn't expect to play any games on these settings. If your playing games, your best bet is to have it plugged in. The keyboard feels great and I love the metal frame but it does show finger prints. The SSD doesn't leave a lot of space with the operating system on it. You can clear some space by deleting the pre loaded games or move them to the HDD. The picture quality and frame rates for the games I have played are great. The GeForce application will give you the optimal settings for most games. The computer responds very quickly and doesn't have any issues running multiple applications at the same time. Everything comes down to the price. For the price of this computer, I think everything performs better than expected.

Good, but noisy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some quick points on this machine. It's good, overall performance is fantastic. The screen looks very good but is a tad darker than I would like. The audio and built in speakers are great, but are a bit quieter than I would like. It gets a bit warm under stress but nothing terrible. The SSD is tiny and you'll need a bigger one. The HDD is fine and load times are reasonable. My only real complaint is that the fans when you're web browsing or checking email, doing simple stuff, are SUPER reactive. A tiny CPU increase and they spin up and get a bit noisy for a few seconds then calm back down. My other complaint echos what others have said in that I hear a high pitched 'whine' in the top left of the base, above the keyboard. I suspect coil whine. It only seems to affect the rear left heatsink but it's hard to tell if that's exactly where the noise is coming from. If not for that, the fan noise is tolerable. I don't think you're going to bother anyone in a quiet room while doing normal tasks.

Really Solid Laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I got this for a discounted price so I can only say it's well worth what I payed for which is $1200. Okay I'll jump in now. First off don't freak out if you think your AC adapter won't work because it's a cap on the part that plugs in and that's removable but I was told I would need an external port lol. The build is nice, I really like how solid it is and the design is very well done. The 1tb hard drive is actually fast and you won't have to worry about storage plus the 128ssd it comes with although at $1500 I would like at least 212ssd. Asus nails the control center showing heat and fan controls. I think this controls temperature a lot better than most laptops out there which is a major plus. All in all I love Asus brands now.

The laptop that takes you current...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really impressed with the way the setup started for this laptop. It verbally walked me through the whole process and even integrated with my phone. I will say I have not figured out how to disable that part yet. The sound is very impressive for a laptop. It reminds you each time you start it up. The graphics are really good for a moderm laptop but don't expect the same performance as a desktop graphics card. It is very good for games and such, I am getting between 30 - 60 fps with most items enabled. The processor and overall performance is really great for day to day activities. I would highly recommend this for most folks that want a powerful laptop that might occasionally play a game or just wants to just make sure that the laptop will stay usable for a few years. The only real thing I would say is if you install items make sure to choose the secondary hard drive to install it so you don't fill up the main drive. Also ASUS seems to include more generic software than I would like but so far it can be uninstalled. The battery life was really good and even under load lasted as expected. The wireless connectivity is really stable and found no issues with different bands.

Fast, Great for Gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased this laptop a little over a week ago and I couldn't be happier. I was torn between this Asus, a Dell G7 and an Acer Predator but went with this one on sale. It exceeded my expectations in nearly every way, and it's priced better than competitors with similar specs. Build quality is top notch too, keyboard/travel is comfortable. Very fast, minimal bloatware. I'm able to run R6 Siege and Black Ops 4 maxxed out, averaging around 100fps for both. The only downside is that it is pretty loud, but the fans are adjustable with the Asus pre-loaded software to quiet it down for non-demanding tasks. Overall, a great laptop that I'd happily purchase again.

Excellent performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer several days ago, and it arrived very quickly and in excellent condition. So far, it has worked very well. I have not tried very graphically intensive games on it yet, but the few that I have tested have run quite well. The computer is very responsive and overall well put together, not too heavy or clunky. The RGB keyboard is a nice touch. I will say the surface is prone to fingerprints, but a microfiber cloth should get rid of them easily.

I love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to be a die-hard supporter of a couple of other competitor computers/laptops over the years, until recently, a laptop died after only a year of minor to moderate use. I didn't have any extended warranty, bad on me. I searched for a new laptop that was comparable or better than the previous device and finally came across the ASUS/ROG line of gaming laptops. I admit, I was very apprehensive about buy ANY new laptop because of the reliability over the last 5 years has been crappy, to be nice. I decided, for the price, hardware, and features, I opted to buy this laptop AND a 3-yr extended warranty. The first power-up didn't go without an issue with the backlit/ROG keyboard. However, it was pretty simple to fix, once I figured out why it didn't work. It required an updated version of the ROG Aura software that it didn't already have from the factory...laptop must have been shipped prior to any reports of issues coming back to them. But, it was fixed, finally set up, and I was up and running. My experience so far with this laptop has been a 9.8 out of 10 (keyboard fix lowered my rating slightly). It has run any game I have played on it, so far. I am not a hardcore gamer, but I do love my highspeed racing and flightsims. Some time passed and the desktop that was nearly 7 years old was beginning to show signs of hardware failings, time to buy him a new system. We talked about it at length and it was decided that he totally loved my ROG laptop, so I gave him the first one and then bought the second a few days ago. (which I am now typing this review with) The second go-around, absolutely zero issues setting it up. No keyboard glitch, no bios updates, just a smooth setup for a laptop(excluding Windows 10 - give me back my Windows 7 Professional). Overall, the fact that I have now owned my first 2 ASUS laptops, and they both have performed as advertised, I am thankful for the purchases made with this GU501GM gaming laptop. I would recommend this laptop to anyone asking for a 'middle of the road' chance at an enjoyable experience. I admit, it is still early and we will know in the next 3 years if this laptop was worth it or not. So far, I believe that it is worth it.

Excellent All-in-one Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I'm pleasantly surprised with this laptop. The 1060 6GB is PLENTY for today's gaming, and combined with the 144hz refresh rate display I easily hit 100+ frames in most games. Yes, this laptop can get loud due to the fans; HOWEVER, if you enable Whisper mode in the GeForce Experience then this thing is pretty dang quite, and is completely unnoticeable especially if you wear headphones . If you are debating on getting this laptop, do it. It's an excellent desktop replacement, and not too heavy at all for so much power.
