Great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After trading in my Razer Blade 14, I went in store to return it and came out with this laptop. It is a beautiful laptop and not too crazy other than the ROG Logo. The laptop has a great display and watching or gaming is very smooth. Never had lag or stuttering when playing. The keyboard feels very comfortable and is easy to type on. The only issue I can see is the battery life being very weak on this laptop. But besides that, the fans weren't too noisy, and the laptop performs very well.

Wow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before entering college, I looked at a lot of reviews for various laptops to try to find one that would be suitable and would last. When this laptop debuted in early May, I saw it and immediately knew that this was the laptop that I wanted. Having a $1500 price limit, this laptop was one of the most powerful laptops while still coming from a known and reliable brand. I want to talk about some of the complaints that many have posted here. First, the fan noise. Many have said that their fans sound like airplanes in a silent room. To that I say, discover your fan settings, guys. In a silent college lecture hall, I can't hear my fans at all if I put them on Silent. Even while on Balanced, there exists only a light hum, nothing distracting whatsoever. Overboosted gets very loud, but that should be reserved only for taxing video games, not surfing Google Chrome or playing Minecraft. Next, battery life. The battery life is exactly as advertised: 4-6 hours. The people out there that complained about 1-2 hours on Chrome obviously don't understand how to reduce power draw on their laptop. I can stretch my laptop's battery life beyond 6 hours, so it is not a huge concern. Overall, one of the most stunning laptops I've owned. I have enjoyed this laptop since the day that I got it, and that joy has not diminished whatsoever. Thanks for reading!

Nice machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full Disclosure: I received a Asus - ROG GU501GM 15.6" Laptop from Best Buy in return for a timely and honest review. When I opened the box I was impressed. It was very neatly packaged and protected. The beginning of a high quality experience. The laptop has a brushed black finish that is beautiful and has a nice feel. The keyboard is spacious and includes a numeric keypad. The backlighting on the keyboard is very nice. Just bright enough and with good contrast. The color oscillates though the rainbow from left to right creating a cool visual effect...like a revving engine waiting for the green light. The keyboard also has a nice feel and action. The screen is HD resolution and decent, though it didn't blow me away. I'm spoiled by higher resolution displays that offer incredibly sharp images. This one is very good, just not quite as sharp as what I'm used to seeing on smaller glass displays. But it is HD, and it is completely fine. The fan or fans are audible immediately when the system is booted up. Since this is a gaming laptop, I view that as a positive. It made me think it was ready to do some serious cooling when the graphics card gets a workout. After the initial start up, they quieted down to nothing. There is zero bloatware on the desktop right out of the box. Years ago, bloat-ware was a real issue for me. It was awful. Not so here, Very clean. The audio system is great. The laptop produces a strong "clank" sound effect when it starts up...like a metallic door locking. That was interesting. I played some music videos and really enjoyed the sound experience, I am reminded how a young person today doesn't need all of the electronics I had has a young Baby Boomer. My laptop can be my PC, TV,, Video Telephone, Music System and more... It is amazing. I never imagined this when I started out using computers with punch cards and time-sharing in the 60s and '70s ...but I digress. I can see how this audio will be fantastic when playing video games. I am not a gamer, so I can't relay any first hand game experiences, but I can see this laptop has what it takes to be a great gaming laptop without totally breaking the bank. Nice display, great audio, power I haven't begun to tap into and lots of connectivity. This is a power machine....not a feather light, "carry it everywhere" system. But if you are looking for features and power for gaming or otherwise... rather than ultra-portability, this is a really nice laptop. I'm looking forward to using it more.

Great performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First day using this gaming laptop, it is spectacularly fast! Super fast loading times, no lag, freezing, stutters, crashing! Although some people might not like the fan noise, i personally give Asus a plus for improving the ventilation/cooling system of their gaming laptops. And this specific model is great at that, not to mention its slick, slim build. Extremely lightweight for on the go usage! Overall would rate 5/5 Stars!

sleek and powerful gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited about this laptop. Asus is a great company that makes quality, reliable sleek looking products and I was not disappointed upon opening the box. The packaging for the laptop was stiff and a little annoying to open but really protected the laptop well. This laptop is pretty light considering the specs. It’s sleek and black and super thin. So I was expecting some noise from the fan. The sleek black look is amazing but shows fingerprints so a cloth and some regular cleaning will help to avoid some grease. The laptop has a full keyboard and ten key. The trackpad is centered to the keyboard so it looks a little off to the left side of the keyboard. The speakers are right under the screen above the keyboard so the sound comes up. The ports are sufficient for a thin laptop but surprisingly there is no Ethernet port. So an ethernet adapter will do the job. You do have a type c port and a few usb along with an HDMI port The box that the cables came is was tough to open. It wouldn’t slide open I had to pry it a few times. Inside was the power supply. The power supply is surprisingly smaller than expected. It reminded me of a portable power supply. It’s small enough to carry and not be a nuisance. The overall look of the laptop is sleek smooth and classy. It doesn’t scream gaming laptop just from looking at. But it is packed full of power. The 15" inch screen is the perfect portable size but enough real estate to handle other jobs and multitask. The display is nice and crisp and comes across really sharp. The Computer holds a lot of power with an i7 and 16gb of ram which makes it great for multitasking. I code and play games so it is easy to switch between the two task which is amazing. Vegging out and watching movies also run smoothly on the machine. There is more than enough storage to load some games onto this beast of a machine with ssd and a hard drive. it comes with it has a 1 tb hard drive and a 128 gb of ssd. Gaming wise the laptop comes with a gtx 1060 graphics card. Games run smooth in ultra, or high. I play a range of games from overwatch to PUGBG to HOTS. You will get some fan noise due to the thin nature of the laptop and the graphics card. I do wish that it had a bigger ssd, I tend to get nervous with smaller sized drives. I install a lot of software that eats up a lot of space. From what I've read it can be upgraded to a larger drive which is great for the future but make sure to do some reviews if you haven't done this before, the right tools are needed. The speakers are great for a laptop some of the best I have heard in a long time. Its nice that they considered this when building the laptop most of the time the sound is an afterthought. The laptop is a noticeably heavier than a13 inch, the power supply being a semi brick but it is a welcomed weight compared to my other laptop that is a heavy heavy laptop. So this would suit travel a lot more for my gaming/working needs. The battery life is pretty average compared to other gaming laptops. Web browsing with lower lighting will give you more time about 3 hours. Watching a video or gaming will kill the batter a lot faster. I couldn't clock it just right but it shaves about half of that time off. Gaming laptops do not typically have the best battery life compared to other ultrabooks. But these types of laptops are bought for gaming and high powered usage. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone and everyone. It is priced amazingly for what you get.

ASUS ROG-STAR!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a huge ASUS fan for a long time. I especially love their Republic of Gamers line of products. I've owned several ASUS laptops and have been using a huge 17" monster for my portable gaming rig for a few years. The only problem with their laptops has been they looked like gaming laptops and may not be appropriate for business use since they lack a "professional" look. Times have changed with the new GU501GM. Tons of power for gaming but looks sleek and very suitable for business use with it's sexy brushed black aluminum case. It's a bit on the heavy side for a "thin" laptop. Height is .7 inches and it weighs about 5 1/2 pounds but what would you expect for a powerhouse. The chassis is solid giving the laptop a firm feel with no flex except for very minimal flex with the screen. I don't know how they packed a ton of power in that sleek thin case. The i7-8750H mobile processor is crazy fast with it's 6 cores and turbo boost when you need it. Packed with 16GB of DDR4 memory (expandable to 32GB) and the discrete mobile nVidia GTX 1060 graphics with 6GB of memory should be more that adequate for most games, especially in a laptop. I also love the backlit keyboard which is one of the better keyboards I've felt on any laptop. They have a great tactile feel and do not feel spongy like some laptop keyboards. For fast booting and performance it comes with a 128GB M.2 SATA boot drive and a 1TB hard drive for data. Also I'm happy to see Bluetooth becoming standard on laptops. This ROG star also has a bunch of ports... there are 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 HDMI port and 1 Thunderbolt port and of course one headphone/mic jack (combined nto separate). Also a huge improvement over my 17" ASUS are the speakers. These actually sound great for a laptop however I usually pair a Bluetooth speaker or use a USB headset when I game but for business presentation in a small to medium sized conference room these should be more than adequate. A few things that it is missing... there is no optical drive but those are going the way of floppy drives as you don't even see them in desktops any longer. There are a couple of disappointments... no MicroSD slot, no touchscreen and I would have liked to have seen at least one USB Type C port. I would have liked to have seen this laptop with a minimum of a 240GB SSD since I'll be using this for dual purpose (business and gaming). Also I can do without the boot screen sound effects. I'm sure there is a BIOS setting to disable. I'm completely impressed by this ROG offering and it has booted my old MSI Ghost Pro laptop from my mobile stable. I can see years and years of great use ahead of me with this unit. Get it... for the price point you won't find anything that is better.

Almost Perfect.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is amazing by all means. I'm switching from a Macbook Pro so I'm used to an amazing track pad and an overall great machine. This trackpad is good for a windows computer, not perfect though. keyboard is great though and very responsive. It games great. I use it mostly for rendering and the cpu does a wonderful job at that. THE ONE CON. This computer SUCKS when on battery power. Not talking about the time it lasts on battery power, (cause that sucks too), but it goes from amazingly fast gaming computer gaming computer, to worse than my grandmas 10 year old desktop. the reason for this is it has a 65Watt GPU and a 50Watt CPU but only a 50W battery, soooooo it turns to its intel UHD 630 on battery power and cant turbo boost to its 4.1 GHz. CONCLUSION. Its amazing when its plugged in, the case is plastic but it barely flexes, nothing like some of those cheap pcs out there. It sucks on battery power but has enough juice to do things like photoshop, but CANNOT game or render on battery power holy crap haha. My Macbook Pro could totally render and game on battery power so im not used to that, but for the price tag this thing is awesome!!

Great purchase, works amazing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, there's so much good to say about this laptop. The performance is amazing, much better than I expected. Let's start off with the only con I can think of. The SSD is 128 GB, so there's barely any room if you care about having your games on SSD. I was expecting this PC to overheat when I played games and that I would need something else to hold it. Nope! I can play FFXIV for hours on end with high settings with it on my lap. It does get a bit warm but it's not even close to being unbearable. So far it's held up against anything I throw at it. Skyrim, BDO, FFXIV. It's very lightweight and I can carry it around with me no matter where I go.

A Stylish, Powerful Laptop, Good for Anyone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus ROG GU501GM is an amazing laptop, both for gaming, and for school work. It is the ideal computer for a college student who is also a gamer. As a former college student, and a current gamer, I can stongly attest to this. The Asus ROG has tons of power, from the 8th generation Core i7 processor to the 16 GB of RAM, along with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, I can play the latest games, AND mine cryptocurrency. Everything I've thrown at this machine runs great. On the huge 15.6" screen, games look amazing. Additionally, it features two hard drives: a Solid-State drive (SSD) for the operating system, and a 1TB drive for data. This setup ensure that the bootup process, as well as starting apps and games, is super fast. Setup and use has been snappy and easy. However, one of my favorite features, something I can't live without now, is the back-lit keyboard. I did not know how great that would be, especially when I need to write a quick email at night, and don't want to wake up my wife, I can easily type with the back-light.

Awesome Laptop for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd Asus gaming laptop and I have to say, they are setting their personal bar higher every generation. This laptop is beautiful and is one of the more mature designs out of the gaming laptop market. The outer sleek, brushed aluminum is stylish while the light-up ROG emblem is a subtle cue that it is meant for gaming. The build quality feels superior and the keyboard is one of the best in the market. I didn't expect the speakers to sound that great, but they are surprisingly good. Runs everything I need for work and school, but also provides enough power to run the usual games I play. Super happy with my purchase.

Great Multi-purpose Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop in January because I needed a new pc for college and wanted something I could also enjoy one of my favorite pastimes on, gaming. I've had this laptop for almost 4 months now and I'm still in love with it. I can play anything with full graphics capability. I play Gears of War 4, Battlefield 4, The Old Republic, Assassin's Creed, and etc on here and all look amazing and run flawlessly. I don't think I ever get anything below 60fps. If you're an avid gamer and want something more portable than a desktop with about the same capabilities, then the ASUS ROG line is the way to go!

Amazed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing machine, that hits every nail on the head. 6core 12 thread i7 8750h is amazing, the gtx 1060 and 16gb ddr4 ram is perfect for 1080p gaming and the 120mhz gsync screen makes it an epic experience. This machine destroys my 5.0ghz oc i7 2600k in every test ive ran. Only complaint is when I pull the plug to do some video editing at the local coffee shop it transforms from a lion into a lamb, its just enough to get the job done but barely but simple fix, bring the charger with you. Looking at about 2 hours under heavy use, maybe an hour compiling video.

Amazing quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop looking for a great gamer along with some graphics power for 3d modeling. This has proven to be a great bang for how much you pay for it. The build quality is very amazing and the keys have a firm positive feeling. You will not be dissapointed with purchasing this machine. I see some people complain about the fan noise but you can control the fan speed via hotkeys. With that being said even with the fan on max it is not loud at all

Absolutely amazing so far! Better than my MSI!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially bought the Lenovo Legion Y530 and returned it the very next day due to poor performance and issues connecting to WIFI. I exchanged it for the ROG GU501GM because it was my first option from the beginning but also $500 more and I narrowed it down to this ROG, the Legion and Helios 300. I went with the Legion initially because it looked more professional and had a smaller price tag. Obviously that didn't work out. I needed something more portable and after looking at reviews it came down to this beauty and the Acer Predator Helios 300. I wanted something that didn't scream GAMER and had a more professional look to it. I went with the ROG because it was thinner, lighter, amazing build quality and just had the better overall sex appeal to it. Plus ASUS makes some solid devices (not that Acer doesn't) but for the same price it was a no brainer. This laptop is also more future proof due to it having a Thunderbolt 3 port. The trackpad is amazingly accurate but could be bigger. Battery life is as you expect from a gaming laptop. you will get a good 4-5 hours if you dim the screen and aren't gaming or running a bunch of updates in the background. It boots up in 5 seconds or less. The keyboard is just amazing to type on and at first I thought I wouldn't like it due to low travel (plus I was spoiled with my MSI steelseries keyboard) but after about an hour of using it I don't think I can go back. Screen is awesome and gets pretty bright overall. I keep it dimmed a bit because I'm always staring at a screen at work and want to avoid eye strain. Speakers are good but not great. They are loud enough and sound crisp but I have heard better (Huawei Matebook X Pro) but I do like the position of the speakers being on the top of the keyboard rather than bottom firing. I feel if they were bottom firing speakers they wouldn't be as loud or sound as decent as they do now. Ports are a plenty but take note it doesn't have a gigabit ethernet port. That's where the adapter comes in so if youre looking to get hardwired in to play then make sure you buy an adapter. Overall im pretty satisfied with it and would recommend it overall for business, gaming, students, or just a home computer that will last for a few years. A side note, some people on here say its gets loud when the fans kick in, I have yet to experience it but will update when I start gaming on this beast.

Model Offered here is for Best Buy only
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This post is to make sure if your buying this from BB that the model number is GU501GM - NOT the GM501GS or the GM501GM - the difference is this version does not have the 144 hz or the G-Sync, and it does NOT have the air flow ports opening in the back when you lift the cover. The latter two version are more expensive than this model. Either way, I do like this machine, very thin, and performs very well in all my benchmarking tests. Definately worth it for what your getting for value vs price.

Awesome Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, for the price this machine is excellent. The build quality when you unbox it is just amazing. I have had no issues with any overheating in games and this machine almost feels like I can replace my desktop. It's not too loud unless you are gaming and the 1060 is nice to have, coming from a GT650 laptop. Sure it dosent have the 144hz screen but for the price its much better than other laptops. Easy to work on and room for expansion is great.

Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unlike most of the consumers buying this product, I am not using it for gaming. I bought it to use as a 3d CAD/CAM machine. The graphics card makes processing high quality renders a snap, and so far, the processing power is awesome. It is compatible with everything I need, really just a USB port and a "gaming mouse" (they are great, you can program all of your most used commands to the extra mouse buttons)
