This baby packs a punch in just about everything I use it for. (and that's a lot by the way.) sound quality is great, graphics on my games are superb. and the design is outstanding. If you go any extraneous task on it for a long time, IT WILL GET HOT. but it has yet to lag or shut down from overheating. I'm sure I could set something on fire with this laptop before it will actually turn itself off and that's great for those long games you don't constantly save on...

This thing plays Overwatch on ultra settings @60fps on my 20:9 monitor at 2k.
Starts to chug at 3k though and almost does 120fps on the default 1080p monitor that’s on it. Have to bump it down to medium or high to push 120fps at 1080p.
The fans are loud but not too loud. The keyboard is okay. Touchpad sucks.
Overall I love it. I’m shocked at how well it pushes other games @3k on an external monitor. For a laptop at this price it screams.

Really was debating between this and the MSI GS65 as both are thin and understated gaming laptops, I decided to go with this one on the feel for the keyboard and was happily impressed. One negative I had to get use to was the larger bezels compared to the MSI but you get use to it quickly. I did return it however to get the one with the GTX1070. For $1300 this is a great gaming laptop with temps not too high and fan noise not terrible.

Removing a star since all the Asus applications for fan, audio, promotions had issues out of the box. My sound would only play very low in applications, fan control would sporadically work, etc. The off battery power plan was set to power saver. Changing it to performance only works temporarily before its set back, etc. Took a lot of time getting everything to reinstall correctly. Also, this was advertised as including 3 other software products: Trend Micro 6 month anti-virus, COD 4 game, and Fortnite bundle. I did not receive codes for any of those. After several calls I was given the Fortnite code via email from BestBuy, They could not provide the Trend Micro software so they promised to send me a gift card for the value (we'll see), and could do nothing about the Call of Duty game promised and said they escalated my issue (a week ago). Concerning the game, I've been given the run around from Bestbuy, Activision, and Asus (who is ultimately responsible). Long story short is that after hours (not kidding) of trying to claim the promotion I've deemed it impossible. That said, this has been a good laptop once setup to be a gaming laptop and removing bloatware. Everything has been fast and responsive. Gaming (as long as power settings don't cripple it) has been great. Took a star off for out of the box software conflicts (too many to list). Only hardware concern may be fan noise if turning up the fan profile to balanced/overboost. Just don't let any free offers make you choose this over something else.

This is a really good machine. With the gtx 1060 and an i7 8th gen cpu, you can easily achieve 100fps on high settings. However, there is a fps cap at 120fps, due to the 120hz screen. In Fortnite, R6, I get 120fps on the highest settings. The only downside is that the top of the laptop is a fingerprint magnet. The keyboard feels nice and has a rgb keyboard, and the trackpad isn’t rough. I highly recommend this laptop.

This laptop is fantastic for the price. Great build quality, and will play most games you throw at it. This is a Best Buy exclusive product. ASUS makes a version with a G-Sync panel and a GTX 1070, but will you pay another $600 for it. All in all, this is a great laptop and I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it.

Love this laptop. Does get very hot at the top and felt at if it burned me once or twice. The typing feels great on this keybord, but I wsh the track pad was centered and you could feel where it partitions to the left and right click. Overall, i would purchase again.

Bought this a couple months ago and I’m in love. I haven’t liked a laptop as much as I do this one. It has the best feeling keyboard of the gaming laptop Best Buy has to offer and it’s touchpad is a joy to use. The only complaint I have is the battery life but it’s honestly pretty good considering the specs.
I recommend this over Alienware and MSI

What's in the box
-----------------
ASUS ROG GU501GM BI7N8
4-cell battery
Power adapter
Ports
-----
(4) USB 3.1 ports
(1) USB 3.1 THunderport/type c
(1) hDMI 2.0 port
(1) 3.5mm audio port
Summary
-------
I think its a great gaming laptop which doubles up as a trendy work laptop when you work from home and need that multi-tasking capability of playing a game while logged in.
Pros
---
1. Outstanding build quality and yet maintaining a below 6 lbs weight (5.5 lbs)
2. Love the nice ROG logo that lights up when you turn it on
3. Top of the line specs and a real gamer. the Nvdia GE FORCE GX1060 has a very good GPU without any lag
4. Excellent crisp display with a very good refresh rate of 120Ghz. So it gives a smooth performance.
5. Has a HDMI 2.0 port to output to TV
6. Good color from left to right on the backlit keyboard
Cons
---
1. 128 GB SSD, why! , these days 256GB is standard
2. Fan noise, it can get loud when you use it for a longer time. However i am assuming you are taking the laptop word literally as it can get hot as well after a while
3. Battery life - which it was higher
Details
-------
Right out of the box, the machine feels really solid, it can withstand some amount of rought use. The weight is also very reasonal for 15.6 inch at 5.5 lbs. I am not a big fan of a gaming laptop as you need bigger screen and good amount of surround sound to really enjoy the games. I tested a couple of games, one of which was gears of war ultimate edition. I tested them in both laptop mode and connecting the laptoip to my home theater to display on tv. i enjoyed both modes although i liked the bigger sound and screen. The games came out great, no stutter, clear and smooth. i do not think you will need to spend more money to go higher end for gaming. The GPU is good enough for gaming and the advantage of gaming laptop vs putting money in Xbox or PS4 is the ability to do othet things like using it for work or other activies.
Overall, i think its a great gaming laptop and a very trendy PC for personal use. Go for it!!

I bought this because I am on the road a lot and still wanted to be able to enjoy photos and game. While there is no 4 and a half stars option I will go with 5. I got this on sale so that helps lean to 5 stars. Only con is that it gets hot and the fans turn into jet engines trying to cool it. But it is still great at gaming and very fast so far.

Bought this computer to replace my daughter's old one that was dying. She loves it. Says everything loads so quickly. No glitches in older games. Doesn't get hot, like her old one did. She doesn't need to have anything under it to keep it off the surface for cooling. she is delighted with this computer.

ive always been a desktop guy for gaming. laptops where always overpriced for the hardware you got and unperformed due to heating. but has this changed now. while it is still a bit more expensive i don't think its nearly as bad as it once was. prices are still higher then building a desktop yourself. but hardware is now the same mostly and heating as been no issue with this model. full disclosure i did not pay full price, i bought an open box one which brought the price down. i also had a glitch with the speakers where they would not work. ended up fixing it by deleting all the audio drivers/audio controllers drivers and letting them reinstall which fixed the issue.
only real complaint is no Ethernet port but i would guess that in order to keep the laptop this thin is was not included
side note, no dvd drive either, this does not bother me but it may some.

I upgraded from a HP Envy and the speed and graphics are like night and day better. It does seem to overheat a bit so would recommend a cooling pad for it when gaming. So far only played WoW and Diablo and done some light internet stuffs. Recommend checking the apps for not needed ones taking up space.

The laptop has a minimalism design. The back side has metal-stripe pattern in 2 directions - which is cool and classy at the same time. However, if you have sweaty hands and you tend to touch the back side multiple times, for closing the laptop or putting it in a laptop case, then the sweat with stuck in the pattern even when the sweat has dried. So, you have to get a towel and carefully wipe it out. Other than that, the battery is quite small, it may last for 2h30' of continuous gaming. Every time the laptop starts, it will make a little noise when the ROG logo shows up, that may disturb other ppl if you're in a public place. The arrow keys are smaller than normal size (i don't think there is a standard size for arrow keys but it is smaller than those typical keys) but ppl with average and small hands won't notice it. The backlit only shine for 1 min if the laptop is not charging AND undisturbed. If you charge it then the backlit for stay there. Other than that, everything is fine and solid. It has 4 usb ports (which is 1 more than most other laptops).

purchased to replace an older Asus laptop. Laptop is more compact, lighter. did have an issue about a month after purchase where it would not boot, got stuck in a recovery loop. Had to take it back to Best Buy to fix issue, Turn around two days. Will continue to use at home and on the road.
