Lightening Fast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a gamer, but math processing is awesome. I'm using it to write algorithms for processing commercial DNA kits. Both the solid state hard-drive and the i7 make this thing really powerful.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this today, so far I have no complaints. This is a huge upgrade from my i3 asus. I had to jump through a ton of hoops to get the black ops download code, but overall happy so far.

ASUS ROG LAPTOP Audio Issue --ARRRGGHH!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this was an Open-Box purchase at my local store and overall it seems to work fine BUT.... I had this for occasional use as 95% of my work was on my desktop. So I would use this for non-media tasks UNTIL the pandemic hit and I had to deal with Zoom Video Meetings, YouTube live streaming for work and this is where the problem arose---AUDIO. It appears that audio playback on the built-in speakers has an issue where audio will start ok along with the video but 7 out of 10 times, the volume will fluctuate and be quite low. It will sometimes surge back to normal but then subside and this wreaks havoc when participating in a live-work ZOOM meeting. I got with BestBuy tech support online and they would take more than an hour to troubleshoot and uninstall / reinstall audio drivers, etc., etc. But the problem would still persist. After searching ASUS user group forums...it appears this is a pretty common issue and yet not a solid "one fix/fixes all" is available. I've tried several "Hey this worked for me" tips from other users and still not solved the issue. Now the headphone jack works ok but the audio sounds like it's in a cavernous room which is not good. I've checked the audio settings (I'm no dummy) properties, etc. I've checked the Sonic III audio software and have adjusted everything back and forth dozens of times. This is maddening!!! I now realize why this is an "open box" clearly someone bought before me and realized this wasn't going to be fixable. So I'm pretty upset. Other issue is battery life could be better...it's pretty minimal.

Quite alright
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn’t have the highest expectations for a gaming laptop priced less than 2k but this is a pretty fast capable gaming machine thus far. I was torn between this machine and the lower priced Dell G7 however, the quality of both the screen and keyboard won me over to favor the Asus ROG over the Dell. The Asus has what I would personally consider to be an attractive chassis that would likely age a bit better than the Dell G7 design despite both being relatively nice looking laptops. Overall this is a great laptop that I would recommend to someone looking for a portable gaming machine able to run the newest games at high fps on a high refresh screen with good color contrast.

A Great Deal on a Slightly Downgraded Zephyrus
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is basically the Zephyrus / Zephyrus M but without the cooling hinge, a smaller SSD, and a slightly worse panel (120hz instead of 144). Identical CPU. Thunderbolt 3. Honestly, a much better deal, even if you upgrade the storage (which you probably will do for any of these models, as the max capacity nvme offered is 512gb). Even unpackaging this is a treat! If I had to nitpick a complaint, it’s frustrating that I cannot find a case for this, I’m terrified of scratching this beautiful thing, and the battery could be bigger. Don’t forget to register yours if you buy one with the ROG rewards site, you’ll get enough points for a t-shirt and other goodies.

Wow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is absolutely stunning. Do not listen to what other people are saying about the fans, it is so easy to make them silent using the built in ROG Gaming Center there is an option for silent fans and you can tottally actually have them be silent if not gaming. This laptop is absolutley incredible, coming over from a Macbook Pro this blows that out of the water and is a great laptop to bring to class too as it is super light and thin.

On-The-Go-Gaming Powerhouse, Bring Extra Tools
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR version: "Gaming on it was as much fun as I remember without all the headache, and for an affordable out-of-the-box gaming experience, this is a great gaming laptop to go with. Just bring your own mouse and headphones." From negative to positive: - as would be expected in a slim design like this, the fan noise is crazy loud and the biggest negative of the bunch. - the laptop gets too hot to put on your actual lap, the fans are also unfortunately placed and unless you have a lap board or a thick book or a fire suit, you're gonna be setting up on a table. - the laptop burns battery FAST doing ordinary tasks on default settings (I was down to 63% after installing Steam, doing updates, and installing 2 games over the span of about an hour and a half). - the laptop's audio is good but a little hollow - you absolutely will want to bring your own gaming headphones to the table - the keyboard LEDs are sweet, the keys are arrayed nicely and have good response and feel, the trackpad is decently placed to avoid conflicts, and there's a keypad too - the touchpad is effective - however you will absolutely want to bring your own mouse to the table. - 16 GB of memory alongside 6 GB dedicated video memory is an effective combination. I ran full graphics on MechWarrior: Online and Star Trek: Online to test particle effects and had ZERO lag or stutters. - the machine itself is zippy and fun to use. - zero bloatware (ASUS has a utility that pops up but that's it) - set up in 15-30 minutes - slick looking, it gives you a fun gaming rig experience with a minimal investment - light and portable with a great screen Unboxing this ASUS gaming laptop, I was reminded of unboxing my first non-self-built gaming machine (a massive Alienware desktop in metallic blue). The packaging is slick and the computer itself is beautifully brushed. Turning it on the first time, the LEDs come to life and it creates a really fun experience. Gaming on it was as much fun as I remember without all the headache, and for an affordable out-of-the-box gaming experience, this is a great gaming laptop to go with. Just bring your own mouse and headphones.

The GU501GM Is fantastic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far the computer has lived up to all of the best points of the reviews that I have researched before purchase. The computer is far quieter than I thought it would be and the camera is actually not bad at all. When I first started the computer up, I was a small bit concerned that some of the components were not working correctly because the computer was hooked up to the internet but was extremely slow. I concluded that there were several ASUS and Driver downloads running and installing in the background and once I left it alone for a few hours to fully update, and restarted the system. ROG GU501GM works perfectly and quietly.

Great Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moderate fan noise and sub par speakers are the only downsides to this laptop, however compared to almost every laptop I've owned, this one blows them out of the water.

Lots of features for the price range
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great performance for the mid-level price range. Add a larger 512GB SSD and more ram capacity to end up with a great machine surpassing much more expensive models.

Finally meets my standards
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in my early 30's and I'll be the first to admit that I am picky as heck. I migrated from a Macbook air, albeit a weak machine, but it served it's purpose during grad school in terms of battery life and durability. Now I didn't really need the battery life, due to my work supplying their own computers, and I wanted a solid gaming machine for my own personal use. However, I still wanted a computer that fit the criteria that was important to me (i.e., good design, good feel, solid build quality, and good specs). I've gone through both the Legion Y530 and the Dell G7, and both are great machines, but they just didn't feel premium enough for me. I finally feel content with the ASUS GU501. Despite lacking the cool panel-lift included in the Zephyrus, it still has an elegant and effective cooling system, with the perforated grill on top near the screen to help draw in cool air. I also love the design, as it feels mature but not bland. The build quality comes close to Apple standards, though there are some very minute inconsistencies with gaps on the left and right when the lid is close (like I said, i'm VERY picky). However, this gaming laptop feels like a boutique item, so it is understandable. Some other cons are, noticeable screen bleed on black screens, some asus bloatware (easily removable), and poor battery life. Some pros are smart thermal engineering, good choice of materials, great design, acceptable thermals, and good build quality. In conclusion, if you care about the the same things I do, rather than pure specs (design, feel, quality) then you will be impressed by this laptop.
