Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the ROG Strix 18" gaming laptop's impressive performance, large screen size, and high refresh rate, which contribute to an immersive gaming experience. However, some users have noted issues with backlight bleed, battery life, and fan noise. While many praise the build quality and graphics capabilities, concerns about coil whine and heat generation have also been raised. Overall, the laptop receives positive feedback for its powerful performance but some users experienced minor drawbacks.

Luckily I didn't get any dead pixels or bleeding. I don't know why this laptop boots up so slow, also when you put it in sleep mode and wake it up, it tends to display the initial setup page, where it asks you to select a language, etc etc. For those reasons I'm taking off a star, other than that, it's an absolute beast. I upgraded from a laptop from 5 years back that was 17 inches too, also from asus, and the weight difference is what makes me happy. It is heavy, but compared to previous generations of ASUS laptops with similar build, I see no problem travelling with it. Note, that it is really hard to carry in a bag, as it won't fit. 18 inch bags are uncommon.

Love it. Gaming laptops have come a long way as far as temperature, power, and fan noise. Im mostly gaming in silent mode which gives great performance with no fan noise. But even performance mode isnt that loud. Personally im annoyed by fan noise which is why i never considered gaming laptops...but this is my favorite purchase of the year! No coil whine, screen backlight bleed is tollerable, build quality is amazing (high quality plastic) and amazingly smooth glass trackpad. Almost forgot to mention how immersive the 18inch screen is. Brighness is insanely great. Battery is what youd expect from a beefy gaming laptop. Its really not too heavy and is pretty amazingly thin looking...I honestly enjoy holding and admiring it even when im not using it.

Nothing bad to say, everything is running smooth into my 3rd week. But the screen is very very large! Which is great for a desktop replacement. And im also loving the Dolby Atmos.

Expensive but an amazing machine. I have zero regrets about purchasing this laptop and found that it doesn't feel as large as I expected an 18" laptop to be. For someone who doesn't carry their laptop around a lot but want the option, it's perfect. I upgraded to 64GB RAM as soon as I got it and will be adding another NVME drive. I thought that for the price you'd get at least 32GB RAM, but RAM is cheap and took only a few min to install. The battery life is (as expected) awful but I have it on the charger 95% of the time so it's not a problem for me.

Great laptop out the box, I'd recommend upgrading NVMe's and memory before getting to deep into using this laptop to much. Go ahead and spend the extra $500 on upgrades. With the upgrades I can say this can definitely be a desktop replacement for those that require portability. When I bought this I immediately bought 2x 2TB Samsung 990 Pro, 2x 32GB Crucial SODIMM 4800 memory sticks, and copper "heat sinks" for the NVMe's, they are really heat dissapators but search "heat sink" when looking for them. The NVMe's have not gotten over 36 Celsius even when gaming for hours. With the upgrades this laptop is speedy and ready for anything I throw at it.

Asus is the worst choice for a high-end gaming laptop. Stutters and freezes even while performing simple tasks. Overheats and crashes a couple minutes into gameplay. Fans randomly run at max speed for no reason. Constantly switching between power modes while plugged in causing additional freezing. Spf service crashes tens of thousands of times causing stuttering and sluggish feeling. Driver updates wont fix the problem. Go down enough rabbit holes and you'll find out its poorly written firmware and theres nothing you can do. Asus hasn't fixed the problem no matter what they claim. Save the headache and spend your money elsewhere.

No issues with my unit. Coil whine is a thing but once the fans kick in it is unnoticeable. While larger than most it is still smaller than older desktop replacements I've owned.

Almost perfect all around gaming laptop. Closest thing to a gaming desktop I’ve played on. Only flaw is fan noise but can be turned down in silent mode when not gaming.
