    Great Gaming Laptop

This an excellent gaming laptop. It has run everything I can throw at it without any hesitation. Has average battery life for a gaming laptop, but that was not unexpected given its size and power. Heat dissipates nicely, temperatures stay under 80c under load, fans are loud under load, but cant hear them using a headset.

Powerful Beautiful Run smooth and great, there is nothing it can not do However, there was a low volume high pitch noise during operation at made me very uncomfortable I had to return and rebuy another, hopefully I will get a non defective laptop this time Battery life was average but the charger was very hot when charging Display was beautiful enough for daily use and game but the build in webcam were not compatible with windows hello face and only 720p Not enough usb type A ports. As of now I can not recommend this item. Let see how the new one will be, if the high pitch noise issue were gone, I will definitely recommend this system to all people

Great laptop! No coil whine, no dead pixels, there have been a few occasions where the OS locked up during the update process. Once updated(including the 305 firmware) no issues. Ram is low, but for the price it's expected; they had to cut cost somewhere. Initially I thought it would be fine for the 1tb, but after it completely blew my i7-8700k desktop w/ a RTX 2080 out of the water, I'm swapping the desktop NVME into the laptop.

Good Value, but IPS Nebula Display...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

**TL;DR:** Good value for high end components and cooling tech. But keep in mind that the ASUS IPS "Nebula" display has inherent "glow" issues which impact dark video or gameplay. This "glow" issue can be exacerbated by a poorly built/assembled unit. **DISCLOSURE:** My ROG Strix 18 was an open-box product (so you may get a better unit than mine if it's new). I returned my unit b/c of quality issues with ASUS "Nebula" Display and open/close lid issue. But I would consider trying a new one or opting for an OLED 17"+ laptop. **The Good:** * Better cooling than ~90% of other Gaming laptops. * Good value for 4080 GPU, 18" Size, 13980HX CPU * Very good gameplay experience. * IPS "Nebula" display is vibrant with good color coverage. Ideal for bright video/images/games. **The Bad (ASUS IPS "Nebula" display):** * Display is IPS, so you will see some IPS Glow (or Backlight Bleed). This will impact videos/games that have dark/black scenes/areas b/c you will see an obvious white "glow". How bad the issue gets depends on chance based on the build quality/assembly of your unit. Mine had significant 3-5" radial glows in left side corners and minor glows at the bottom and right side corners. Notice: my room is lit with a single 1400 Lumens ceiling light bulb and my laptop is usually at 10 of the max 100 brightness level. * There were ~20 dead pixels; not particularly noticeable unless you're looking for it * Clicking noise when opening/closing lid. Expecting issue to worsen with continued use, so returned the unit. * Really weird keyboard layout with Function Keys grouping (F1 is not on top of 1) and DELETE/HOME/END keys. I dealt with it, but I could not get used it. * Coil whine sound when GPU is active and fan starts up for games. This did not bother me much, but it is there. This is a common issue reported by others. ** USAGE TESTING: ** Video Games: I tested with Diablo 4, Elden Ring, and Dota 2 all on max settings. Games run pretty smooth. Enabling Frame Generation improves FPS, but quality will depreciate. Still got 120+ FPS consistently w/o Frame Gen. CPU can still get pretty hot in the upper ~80s C and GPU reaches the 70s. This is still better than other laptops I tested (Alienware, Sager, TUF). Youtube video playback: Youtube vidoes are smooth with excellent video/color rendering (tested up to 4k, although I mainly focused on 1440p, which is the native resolution). In contrast, Alienware m18 and ASUS TUF have a very minor, but noticeable "blurry" / "Ghosting" video effect. Tested up to 4k, but focused their respective native resolutions. I suspect poor Gray to Gray pixel speed. Notice: I use testufo.com for various display testing to confirm my observations in Usage Tests. Video Stress test: VLC playback of 4 1080p (8-24 Mbps H264 encoding) videos with each in a different corner of the screen. Playback is smooth and seeking was flawless. With some H265 encoded videos, there is a momentary delay (~0.1s) when seeking. In contrast, Alienware m18 had 0.5-1.0s delay with H265 stress testing. IMPORTANT: Ryzen vs Intel CPU matters for video playback (Intel CPU has better video performance). I tested Alienware with AMD Ryzen 7945HX and Intel 13980HX.

The performance is incredible, in Cinebench multi 33500 and in single 2105. Scored 19500 in Timespy graphics. This packs an 18inch screen in a 17 inch chassis, the screen gets bright and the speakers are surprisingly good. If you can find one don't hesitate.

Honestly the specs on this gaming laptop is trully fantastic for its worth & price range i'd say. Its has a base 1tb storage with a 2nd slot for more memory which is what i did in fact woth the help of geeksquad to install a 4tb expansion for me, with that 4tb giving outrageous storage. Battery is quick to drain. Keep in mind any gaming laptop needs contant charge for full powered performance for a good % of games, needing it to be pluged into an outlet. i honestly wont have a worry for years to come unless some inner tech goes down for maintenance... but yeah super solid & some games i Play(ed) with no issues are: - Monster hunter World - Exoprimal - Diablo IV - Skyrim - a bunch of old classic games

good device if you win the lottery. the issue is primarily with the display. it is a role of the dice if you get one with bad light bleed. luckily I read the other reviews and new that I had to buy multiple at a time, keep the one good one and return the rest. I just kept rolling until I won. in case it does not get clearly answered. yes it supports 64 gigs(if you upgrade your self) and 2 m.2 slots also I bought it open box for about 2k. the wall part of the power adaptor is really lose and delicate so I replaced it with a much better one(it is a generic pc power wire.)

    Great Gaming Laptop, Ultra Fast

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a fantastic laptop and if you can catch it on sale, especially with the new processors coming out not being much better, I can’t recommend this enough. Performance is fantastic. The 13980HX can be tuned with an undervolt which will actually get you a tad bit more thermal headroom to squeeze out performance. Everything is super fast and very snappy. Opening several programs and switching between them is a breeze, not to mention excellent gaming performance, which is what you’re likely buying this for. The 4080 laptop variant drives gaming performance very well. It’s the 2nd best GPU you can get in a gaming laptop at the time of writing this review. It has an integrated MUX switch which just means, integrated GPU for power savings and dedicated GPU when you’re ready to start gaming. Gaming performance looks great on the QHD 2K display. Apex, Destiny 2, New World, Remnant 2 all play without frame loss at High or ultra settings. The 18” screen is the perfect size to play in your lap or in a small space. I use a laptop cooler pad and frequently play games with it in my lap. The fans do get a bit loud if you use turbo mode, which is a given considering the high performance specs. There’s plenty of intake on the bottom using the 3 fan system, exhausting the hot air on the sides and back. No I/O in the back. Two USB type C on the left, headphone jack, full size HDMI and Ethernet, along with the power barrel. The right has two USB type A. Build quality is on the high end of plastic build I would say. I can’t find anything that would indicate magnesium worked in to help with weight and flex. With that being said, it’s a sturdy laptop. I don’t have any reserves about lifting and moving with one hand when the need calls for it. The keyboard is great to type on. It’s full size with a number pad. There are also dedicated media and macro keys at the top. Volume up, down, microphone mute, fan/power profile switch, and Armor Crate launcher. They can also be configured to perform macros as a secondary function. The trackpad isn’t anything special. It isn’t bad, but it isn’t anything fancy. I’m not a huge fan of using trackpads in general so you can ignore my bias. Weight could be a point of contention if you’re looking for something to walk around with. I don’t agree with the term “Desktop replacement” to describe this large class of laptop. It’s portable, and while it could replace a desktop, it’s just a large laptop. Rapid fire thoughts. The soft palm rest with an almost see thru design is a nice touch. The RGB accent light on the front is bright and makes a nice little accent on the desk. Armory Crate isn’t great but it isn’t bad. When you look at the task manager, armory crate is like a CVS receipt. There’s just what seems like an unnecessary amount of ASUS services running in the background. The BIOS offers plenty of customization. Extra M.2 slot for expanding the storage and the RAM is upgradable to 64GB, both of which are easy to get to with a screwdriver and a plastic card. I wish the cable from the power brick to the laptop was longer. I find myself trying to find a place on the desk to sit the brick instead of being able to leave it on the floor. It really hinders any mobility you could have out of a large laptop. Speakers get pretty loud which is nice if you want to play something and still hear it across the room. Even with the new Core 9 and 14900HX processors coming out, I still think this is a fantastic laptop if you can get it on sale or marked down open box. The gains you get out of the better 4090 aren’t enough to justify the cost in my opinion, where most models tack on $600-800 more for it. I snagged this on a black Friday deal for $1,999 so I got a good price vs performance ratio out of it.

Ive been nothing but impressed with this laptop. I currently own a desktop with a 6950xt, 13600k, lian li build and this performs the same if not better than that computer. I highly recommend getting this model as it is the best bang for buck of any other laptop ive seen even in the $3000 range somehow. I play games like rust, COD , escape from tarkov, destiny 2, and even some video editing. I also type some code and compile and this laptop is insanely fast for all that stuff. 2 things to upgrade if you encounter not enough storage is upgrading ssd to a 2TB or even a 4TB depending on your needs but I havent encountered this problem yet. Yoiu may also what to buy 32GB of ram if your are doing a lot more things than just gaming on this thing but I havent noticed a need for ram.

The specs on this laptop are impressive. It seems well made. Its very fast, and the screen is gorgeous. However, the laptop is the heaviest I’ve ever had, and the power brick is almost the size of a literal brick, and the brick itself is heavy too. I’ve slso found the GPU in this laptop wigs out sometimes when used with an external monitor and docking station. Other times it’s fine. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a desktop replacement with moderate gaming functionality if you dont plan to carry it around too often.

Great Laptop, not extremely heavy, graphics are amazing, sound is decent. If you want something bad about it it would be battery life off power cord. However, a short battery life is expected when it runs as fast and good as it does.

I’d give it 5 stars except that I wish it had a larger SSD and more RAM out of the box. I ordered more RAM and installed it but in the process one of the screws on the bottom got stripped and a few others went missing. I’ve got a Geek Squad agent scheduled for tomorrow to try to get the stripped screw out (when I scheduled the appointment I didn’t know that some screws had disappeared). Another issue may be the battery life. When I took the laptop into another room to add the RAM it wouldn’t turn on until I plugged it back in.

For the price, either on sale or not-this laptop is hard to beat! As Dave2D said on Youtube, this is the laptop to get. I've had no light bleed/coil whine issues, temps are good, impressive machine. Just buy it! If yours has any issues, this is Best Buy, you can easily return/exchange within 2 weeks. The only issue I have is sleep mode. The lightbar blinks and I can't get it to stop, so I have to unplug the laptop every time I close the lid. Is it Windows 11? Armoury Crate? Who knows. I tried all the settings in Armoury Crate. Buy it, try it, keep it. Only if you don't have the screen/ coil whine issues. Maybe there was a bad batch. 9/10 for me. Thank you Best Buy and Asus for having a fair priced higher tier gaming laptop-with a great screen/big screen and solid specs!

Picked up in early May 2023. I took a chance and would've returned it if I had the backlight bleed others reported. I lucked out with a good screen with no bleed. There is coil whine from the GPU but that doesn't bother me personally. While gaming the fans are 100x louder than any coil noise anyways, but that's fine they seem to cool the system well. Honestly my biggest gripe is the keyboard, which feels cheap when typing on it compared to my old g75 laptop. The RGB has both obnoxious and tasteful settings to choose from. Acknowledging the price/performance is wayyyy better than competing options, $2500 still seems like a lot to me.

I want to love this laptop, I really do. But every time I try to plug in the power supply, I get an error saying it wasn't plugged in properly. I try to make sure everything is a straight connection but literally every time I try to plug this thing in (which is often because the battery drains quickly) I get the error and have to try again 2 or more times. I'm annoyed that I spent $2500 for a laptop that I can't just plug in and enjoy. The fast performance and graphics have been on point but the power cord issue is detracting from that.
