The Asus ROG G16 is beautiful looking machine. Very clean and simple styling in a nice gray body. The slash lighting design and operation is simple but can be elegant depending how you want to set it up. The laptop only ways 4lbs total and features the Asus power connector, hdmi, USB C, USB A and headphone jack on the left side with another USB C, A and SD slot on the right side. The mouse pad is large and almost half the width (6" of a 14" wide laptop) feels great and easy to press all over. You'll likely be using your own mouse, especially when gaming but when you can't, you can rest assured the built in pad will be great. Keyboard keys have a nice feel. Not overly noisy, with a soft touch, it feels responds the same if you hit the corner of the key vs right on center. So you can use it with confidence. The OLED screen looks amazing, and gives a wonderful picture. Everything is smooth and the colours are vibrant. Speakers are really good and you'll be satisfied if you're watching video on it. I imagine most would also be using their own headset when gaming. Performance wise, it's a powerhouse. You'll not be left wanting when using this. The 4070 is a beast, so expect to be able to keep this computer relevant for a long time to come. The Intel ultra 9 is more than capable of handling your needs. Even if someone were not big on gaming, this would be an excellent candidate for heavy duty work, such as an engineering laptop for students and professionals. Battery life is pretty good. With video playing and gaming I got 5 hours in easily on default settings. Probably could have gotten more if I made some tweaks in Armoury

Shocking Experience with "New" Asus G16 Intel Lapt

    ## Shocking Experience with "New" Asus G16 Intel Laptop from Best Buy I am writing this review to express my extreme disappointment and frankly, shock, regarding a recent laptop purchase from Best Buy. I purchased an **Asus G16 Intel laptop** as a new, unused product for a friend. Due to travel to Europe immediately after the purchase, I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to inspect the laptop until I arrived at my destination. Upon finally opening the box here in Europe, my anticipation turned to utter dismay. What I discovered was far from a brand-new device. The laptop's lid was marred by noticeable scratches, and to my disbelief, there was a significant dent on the unit. This was not the condition I expected, nor what I paid for when ordering a new laptop. It felt like I had been completely scammed. Given that I purchased what was supposed to be a new, untouched laptop, I never considered the possibility of opening the box immediately. The assumption was that a sealed, new product would be in pristine condition. To find such significant damage – scratches and a major dent – was a truly upsetting experience. Now, I am in a difficult situation. The laptop is currently with me in Europe, which complicates the return process. This experience has left me feeling incredibly disappointed and as though my hard-earned money has been wasted on a misrepresented product. I have attached photographic evidence to clearly illustrate the damage I encountered. I never anticipated such a negative experience, especially when purchasing what was explicitly advertised as a new laptop. This situation has left me feeling helpless and deeply dissatisfied.

Design and Build Quality: The ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 is a premium laptop with excellent craftsmanship. The build quality is finally on par with that of a MacBook Pro, which is a significant improvement and a testament to ASUS’s commitment to quality. Display: The laptop comes with a beautiful 16-inch OLED display, which offers vibrant colors and sharp details. It’s so good, you might forget you’re looking at a screen and not a window into another world. The screen is sturdy and can be opened with one hand, a feature that is often overlooked but greatly appreciated. Keyboard: The keyboard on the ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 is very nice, providing a comfortable typing experience. However, it only has one RGB zone. Having more than one RGB zone would allow for cool effects when typing, adding a bit of flair to your gaming sessions. Performance: The ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics. However, the performance of the RTX 4070 is somewhat limited in this thinner chassis, Additionally, having only 16GB of RAM can limit the device’s performance for gaming, especially for games with huge textures that take a lot of system memory. It’s like trying to run a marathon with one leg tied behind your back. Inputs and IO: The laptop has punchy speakers that deliver high-quality audio, making it a joy for music lovers and gamers alike. However, it lacks built-in media keys, which is a surprising omission for a laptop this big. It’s like having a state-of-the-art home theater system but no remote to control it. For its premium price point, it’s also missing Wi-Fi 7. However, the good news is that the Wi-Fi card can be upgraded to Wi-Fi 7, so you’re not stuck with Wi-Fi 6 forever. Storage: One of the great features of the ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 is that it comes with a spare NVMe slot. This means you can add more storage down the road, which is perfect for those large games that take up a lot of space. Battery Life: The laptop comes with a 90Wh battery that offers good runtimes. Price: The laptop is priced at around $2899.99. It’s a bit pricey, especially for the 4070 version. But hey, who said being the coolest kid on the block was cheap? Oh wait, no one ever said that. Gaming Experience: For serious gaming, a chill mat is highly recommended to keep the laptop cool during intense gaming sessions. It’s like giving your laptop a personal air conditioner. However, due to the limited RAM, it’s best suited for games that don’t have huge textures and don’t take a lot of system memory. Future Potential: With the upcoming addition of Copilot+ functionality for Nvidia GPUs by Nvidia and Microsoft, this laptop has the potential to become a powerful tool for AI-related tasks. Verdict: The ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 is a high-performance gaming laptop. It’s slim, sleek, and fantastic to use as a daily driver. However, with the RTX 4070 onboard, it’s got a lot of high-end hardware. The inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 would make it even more future-proof and provide users with a better value for their investment.

Lugging around a giant gaming laptop gets old fast. That's why I was so hyped to be able to snag this! This laptop is ridiculously thin and light for a machine that packs this much punch. It's seriously impressive how ASUS squeezed an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor and an RTX 4070 GPU into such a sleek chassis. I don't just game; I stream too. The G16 handles everything I throw at it with ease. No matter if I'm battling it out in the latest AAA title or editing a highlight reel, the G16 stays smooth and cool (thanks to the liquid metal cooling). Plus, the battery life is surprisingly decent for a gaming laptop, lasting around 10 hours on a charge during light tasks. The 16-inch OLED display is an absolute dream. The colors are insanely vivid, blacks are deep, and the 240Hz refresh rate makes everything buttery smooth. Whether am exploring a fantastical world or lining up those perfect headshots, the visuals are definitely a treat. It's got the muscle to handle even the most demanding games, a beautiful display, and a surprisingly thin and light design.

WD M.2 4x4 1 TB drive 6. 16GB DDR5 7. 4070 video card 8. Very nice heat shield for the M.2 drive. If you swap out drives, be sure to use the old heat shield housing on your new drive. 9. Internal drive is fine the way it is! No upgrade needed. 10. External monitors worked on USB-C and HDMI outputs. Setup: First boot takes a long time. Be advised you will not see any life for a few minutes. Unit must be plugged in on first boot. Be very patient. Be sure to plug it in on reboot after a hardware change. Recommend a USB-C LAN adapter for quicker setup. Update and setup everything including an extra Windows Update in settings. When completely finished setting the unit up, update the BIOS FW at ASUS. Critical update for this unit. Windows update should catch all the rest. I installed a WD850X 2TB for a boot drive and a WD850 2TB for a data drive. There are two hidden screws on the edge of the case covered by rubber pads. If you are not an experienced hardware technician, you may want to skip this step. Fans come on at the right temperatures, but I could not find settable fan speeds the BIOS. There is a fan monitor that appears to be a monitor only. You have to use the enter key for some functions and the mouse pad for others. WD cloning software did fine but be sure to use a USB C external doc and no adapters. The extra M.2 slot does not have much vertical height for heat sinks. I used a heat sink transfer pad as my thinnest heat sink was a fraction too high. If you have a very thin flat heat sink that might work. TBD XBOX-X controller is the best bet for games. The i9 CPU showed its strength in gaming mode as I was surprised how quick it was. The mouse and keyboard were not optimal for gaming. For additional cooling, I bought an elevated laptop stand and placed a fan under it for intense games. Read the manual on how to use the FN keys. In addition, the sound is off on the speakers in initial setup. You will need to tag the Realtek audio in audio settings. The screen will not open past about 110ish degrees. Be very careful! I have included pictures up to my limit but may add some in comments at a later date if possible. • • • • Key Specs Screen Size 16 inches Screen Resolution 2560 x 1600 Touch Screen No Refresh Rate 240Hz Processor Model Intel Core Ultra 9 Series 1 CPU Base Clock Frequency 2.3 gigahertz Storage Type SSD Total Storage Capacity 1000 gigabytes System Memory (RAM) 16 gigabytes Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Display Connector(s) 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x Thunderbolt 4 Battery Life (up to) 10 hours Battery Type Lithium-ion 2-in-1 Design No Backlit Keyboard Yes • General Product Name ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) 16" OLED 240Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 9 - 16GB LPDDR5X - GeForce RTX 4070 - 1TB SSD Brand ASUS Model Number GU605MI-G16.U94070 Year of Release 2024 Color Eclipse Gray Color Category Gray • Display Display Type OLED Screen Size 16 inches Screen Resolution 2560 x 1600 Touch Screen No Refresh Rate 240Hz • Processor Processor Brand Intel Processor Model Intel Core Ultra 9 Series 1 Processor Model Number Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU Base Clock Frequency 2.3 gigahertz CPU Boost Clock Frequency 5.1 gigahertz Number of CPU Cores 14-core • Storage Storage Type SSD Total Storage Capacity 1000 gigabytes Solid State Drive Capacity 1000 gigabytes Solid State Drive Interface PCIe 4.0 • Memory System Memory (RAM) 16 gigabytes Type of Memory (RAM) LPDDR5X System Memory RAM Speed 6400 megahertz Number Of Memory Slots 2 Number of Memory Sticks Included 2 • Graphics Graphics Type Dedicated GPU Brand NVIDIA Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Advanced Graphics Rendering Technique(s) DLSS 3 (Deep Learning Super Sampling), Ray tracing GPU Video Memory (RAM) 8 gigabytes GPU Video Memory Type (RAM) GDDR6X • Compatibility Operating System Windows 11 Home Operating System Architecture 64-bit • Connectivity Display Connector(s) 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x Thunderbolt 4 Number of HDMI Outputs (Total) 1 Number of DisplayPort Outputs (Total) 0 Number of Thunderbolt Ports (Total) 1 Number of VGA Ports 0 USB Ports 2 x USB-A 3.2, 2 x USB-C 3.2 Number of USB Ports (Total) 4 Number of USB Type A Charging Ports 0 Number of USB Type C Charging Ports 1 Headphone Jack Yes Microphone Input Yes Wireless Connectivity Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Wireless Standard AX Wireless Networking Standard Wi-Fi 6E Network Connectivity None • Cooling CPU Cooling System Air • Power Power Supply Maximum Wattage 330 watts Battery Life (up to) 10 hours Battery Cells 4-cell Battery Type Lithium-ion • Camera Front-Facing Camera Yes Front Facing Camera Video Resolution 1080p Built-In Microphone Yes • Features 2-in-1 Design No Backlit Keyboard Yes Customizable Keyboard Lighting RGB Foldable Screen No GPS Enabled No Customizable Case Lighting No Windows Features Windows Hello Security Features Facial recognition Stylus Dock None • Dimensions Product Height 0.59 inches Product Width 9.72 inches Product Depth 13.97 inches Product Weight 4.1 pounds • Certifications & Listings ENERGY STAR Certified Yes EPEAT Qualified No • Included Included Software ROG Armoury Crate Numeric Keypad No Stylus Included No • Warranty Manufacturer's Warranty - Parts 1 year Manufacturer's Warranty - Labor 1 year • Other UPC 197105404113

Design & Build Quality The Zephyrus G16 features a slim, all-aluminum chassis that exudes a minimalist aesthetic. Its sturdy build exhibits minimal flex, and the hinge allows for easy one-handed opening. The laptop includes a customizable diagonal LED light strip on the lid, adding a subtle touch of flair. Tom's Hardware Display Equipped with a 16-inch OLED display at a 2560x1600 resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate, the G16 delivers exceptional visuals. The screen offers perfect blacks, vibrant colors, and supports G-SYNC, making it ideal for both gaming and content creation. RTINGS.com Performance The G16 comes in various configurations, featuring either Intel Core Ultra 9 or AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processors, paired with NVIDIA RTX 40-series GPUs. While the AMD variant offers better battery life and efficiency, the Intel version provides robust performance for demanding tasks. Battery Life Battery performance varies between models. The AMD version boasts up to 9 hours of real-world use, while the Intel model averages around 6-7 hours. Gaming on battery significantly reduces these numbers, especially when utilizing the discrete GPU. Audio & Keyboard The laptop's six-speaker system delivers rich and immersive sound, enhancing the gaming and media experience. The keyboard is comfortable for extended use, though it features single-zone RGB lighting, which may be a drawback for users seeking more customization. Tom's Hardware Considerations Thermal Management: Under heavy loads, the laptop can become quite warm, particularly the Intel variant. RAM Upgradeability: The RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, limiting future upgrade options. The Verge Software Experience: The pre-installed Armoury Crate software has been reported to be laggy and may require manual adjustments for optimal performance. Pricing The ROG Zephyrus G16 is positioned in the premium segment, with prices ranging from $1,900 to $3,300, depending on the configuration. While it offers a compelling mix of design and performance, potential buyers should weigh these factors against their specific needs and budget. Verdict The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) stands out for its exceptional display, robust build quality, and strong performance. However, considerations around thermal performance, upgradeability, and software experience should be taken into account. It's an excellent choice for gamers and creators seeking a high-performance, portable machine, provided these factors align with their priorities

The ROG Zephyrus G16 is a fantastic premium laptop that is the closest thing you will get to a MBP with Windows and a powerful Nvidia RTX 4070 mobile GPU. The form factor, build quality, design, and overall aesthetics make this an absolute head-turner when people see it, especially when you fire up your favorite game and take a gaming break. The Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU also provides powerful performance for both multi-tasking and productivity as well as gaming and the 240Hz OLED 16" G-Sync screen is fantastic for media/photo editing, work, gaming and movie/TV/Youtube streaming. The laptop isn't quite perfect however, and there are a number of questionable decisions and annoyances which I will briefly cover up front, because otherwise this laptop is just about perfect combination of portability, power, looks, connectivity and performance. - Only 16GB of RAM, and its soldered on and can't be upgraded. This is really a bummer because 16GB just isn't enough for heavy multi-tasking, media editing and web browsing and then you throw gaming on top of that and 16GB becomes a major limitation. I really wish Asus put at least 32GB even on this lower end unit because overall it is still a premium design and price range for laptops. - The included 1TB SSD is pretty low end for a premium laptop. I get that SSD prices have gone up in the last 6 months, but Asus' choice of a lower-end PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive with the WD SN560 is really disappointing as the drive only 4300MB/s Read and 3300MB/s Write speeds, which is barely faster than PCIe 3.0 drives that hit 3500MB/s for Read/Writes. Luckily, this shortcoming can be remedied, unlike the RAM situation, as there is a free m.2 SSD slot that you can use for a faster PCIe 4.0 drive that can hit 7500MB/s read/write speeds. - This 4070 G16 model has an inferior cooler than results in hotter temps under load, but also much louder fan that has a high pitched whine. Its really unbearable at times and sounds like a Jet engine taking off. The 4070 version has a 3rd fan that is the culprit here, while the 4080 version doesn't have the 3rd fan and has a vapor chamber cooler there instead, which means much better temps and much better noise levels. This is a really big issue on this laptop and I would recommend only using Performance mode in Armoury Crate and not Turbo mode, even though you will lose some performance as a result for both CPU and GPU. I am going to look into disabling the middle fan or even disconnecting it from the mainboard, its traumatizingly loud. - The Intel Ultra 9 185H is their latest and greatest laptop CPU based on Meteor Lake, but unfortunately, its actually slower than the 13th gen HX CPUs like the i7 13700H and 13900H used in last year's high-end gaming laptops. There is a slight difference in power consumption and maybe that is how these new 2024 laptops are so thin and light, but its odd seeing such a big drop in performance compared to the 13th gen HX CPUs which were super powerful, almost as powerful as full desktop CPUs limited in clockspeed only by their power consumption. The 4070 is fast but it seems like it is limited by the 200W power supply so it ends up not being that much faster (about 15-20%) than my 13700HX 4060 laptop. But enough of the negatives, the Zephyrus G16 is still an amazing laptop, there's just so much to like. Typing on this laptop is a dream. The keys are solid and responsive with a good amount of travel for a full size laptop keyboard. The Speakers are on top of the laptop and are punchy and confident with good levels of Bass. The backlights look fantastic. Trackpad is huge and accurate. And that 240Hz OLED? Wow, beautiful. I'll use this laptop for years to come even if it becomes too slow for gaming or the RAM makes it harder to use for media editing or heavy multi-tasking just because of this gorgeous screen. It'll look great for streaming movies and the laptop is super light and compact. Make sure to download the Nvidia App to enable RTX HDR which will make your videos and older non-HDR games look amazing, its much better than Windows HDR. Full-size outputs means you can leave a lot of dongles at home and get all kinds of connectivity. The Asus proprietary power plug is very nice and sturdy and makes it easy to connect and disconnect and it doesn't feel like it'll wear or break like usb-c or the circular plugs can do over time. Full-size HDMI port and USB-C for video and charging is fantastic and the ability to get dedicated Nvidia GPU output via USB-C is excellent as well. Full-size SD Card for photographers and photo editing is excellent as well, and the TB4 ports are great for connecting high speed storage or fast devices like iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung phones, or even digital cameras/camcorders. The ROG Zephyrus G16 does so much well its hard not to love it, but as mentioned there's just a few issues that hold it back from being perfect. The 4080 unit gets closer to that level of perfection addressing the RAM issue, the fan noise issue, but also comes with the more powerful GPU that can better utilize the 2560x1600 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, but it also costs quite a bit more. Even with DLSS set to Quality, I was only getting 100-130FPS in Diablo 4 with everything maxed out except Textures set to High. Still, the overall package you get in such a light, compact, and stunning design is simply short of amazing and Asus ROG certainly has a winning design and concept on their hands. Maybe with a faster next-gen version of the Intel Ultra CPU, more RAM, and more efficient GPUs they'll get even closer to perfection next time, but for now, its still an amazing laptop that will serve me well for work and play.

I purchased the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 primarily for gaming and college assignments while deployed, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The 16" OLED display with its 240Hz refresh rate is simply stunning. All my games look incredibly crisp and smooth, and the color accuracy makes long study sessions and video editing easier on the eyes. The Ultra 9 processor paired with the 4070 handles everything I throw at it, from the latest AAA games to demanding academic software, without breaking a sweat. I was initially concerned about portability, but the build quality and slim profile of this laptop make it easy to pack and carry around, even with limited space during deployment. The 1TB SSD ensures I have plenty of storage for both games and school files, and load times are lightning-fast. Although I did add an additional 4tb 980 m.2 to carry the bulk of my games since I have a ton on steam. Even during long gaming sessions or while multitasking with multiple programs open, the laptop stays relatively cool and quiet. The battery life is solid for a gaming laptop, easily getting me through classes or meetings when I’m away from a power source. If you need a powerful, reliable machine that can handle both work and play while on the move, I highly recommend the ROG Zephyrus G16. It’s been a fantastic investment for my deployment needs.

Good despite the garbage cooling setup on the 4070

The main model Zephyrus G16 model this year has a 4080 and up, and it uses a vapor chamber for truly excellent cooling out of the box. This entry model uses an archaic heat pipe setup (guess they wanted to save a few bucks) with an absolute junker of a small 3rd fan added to compensate. Thankfully, you can remove the plagueware known as Armoury Crate and use G-Helper instead (Google it! Use it!), and this gains you full and simple access to the fan curve for all 3 cooling fans and every power level. With that tool, you can neuter the high-pitched 3rd fan using a sane yet still very effective fan curve. This makes the $2000 model acceptable -- reasonably quiet with all of the other benefits of the strong 2024 lineup instact. RAM is a sore point but the 4080 / 32GB model is in short supply (maybe later). Performance is excellent -- very strong in Turbo (set those fans to something quieter) and reasonable in Balanced. Great screen and even great speakers -- watching Dune in the Apple TV app was fabulous. I'm playing through Starfield for the first time and I'm loving it. Recommended (especially if the 4080 model isn't available).

Pros: - Beautiful OLED screen. - RTX 4070 gpu allows high-end performance. - The speakers are of excellent quality, and the audio is impressive (seriously, it sounds fantastic). - The design is slick and somewhat thin for a gaming laptop. Cons: - Gets hot quick even on idle. - fans are very loud - Battery life is terrible. It is always best to bring the included charger.

Amazing screen but 16 gb ram is limiting

Laptop build quality is solid, feels real nice and slim and the screen is amazing. Like a MacBook gaming machine. Couple issues though, the fans sound like bearings are rubbing at low rpm, it’s not silent in silent mode, and overall runs loud and hot due to not having a vapor chamber but rather a third fan with high pitch noise. Performance is decent and tweaking settings in manual mode gets about 12.5k graphics in timespy. Overall could be great, but the ram is a major limitation. Playing COD with nothing open in the background, it’s at 97% ram allocation, 16 just doesn’t cut it.
