Best gaming laptop of 2021

This is an excellent gaming and personal laptop. I have used the G14 (3060) and the M15 (3060). This took all of them to a whole new level, Finally the new Intel chip and the 16” 16x10 display rocks. I am able to have Thunderbolt 4 and PCIE 4 thanks to Intel. The 3060 is a very competent graphics card. It came calibrated out of the box. So good n fact that my Spyder 5 made it look worse. The one thing that I did not like is the fans get loud and pushes heat on the display. In fact I am considering the GS protection to protect my investment. Really this ticks all the boxes except it would be nice to be able to purchase the version with the 3070 and 32gb of ram but that was not available.
Battery life on the silent profile allowed me to edit photo’s in Adobe LR for about 3.5 hours which left me 25% before I shut it down. Only con’s are that the laptop can get warm. The rubber strip can dig in your knee’s for long use. Finally the heat is concerning on the display.
I think this is the best balanced laptop for the money which is why it is currently sold out.
As a side note I do have the Flow 13.4 and if portability is more important then that still is a very competent gaming laptop.

Awesome looking screen. The fans don't seems to affect the screen so no worries there. Lightweight and portable, very nice looking. Battery is good though not Ryzen-levels good.
My only 2 complains would be that a RTX3060 is not enough for QHD gaming so you lose on the screen benefit. The other complain is that it can get quite loud.

Love this laptop. Its very fast. Love the way the back-lit keyboard goes through the rainbow colors. Would I recommend this to someone else yes. Would I buy this again Yes I would. It's expensive though. I wish it came with an instruction manual and I wish it hqd a print screen on it . I also wish it had better sound though. You would think it being a gaming laptop that the sound would be crazy awesome but it isn't. Its not a bad sounding machine its just mediocre. I've had better sounding laptops. I like the way the keys feel to touch too, they are soft. I don't like when the screen goes into standby mode the keyboard likes to flash and thats not good for someone that has epileptic seizures like myself. The graphics on this are phenomenal. I've never had a gaming laptop before but always have wanted one. I also like the quality of the outside of it, its not like those flimsy plastic type laptops because its metal. Its a heavy laptop but not so heavy you cannot deal with like carrying it around. The battery life well that could be better. Be prepared to keep your battery around for charging it because it won't last 2 hours if your a gaming. It does get warm so if you want to really protect this buy a cooling pad to help with keeping it cool. I hope this review will help someone in probably making a purchase on this. Its a great laptop. I love it.Its got great quality to it too.

The laptop is definitely powerful, you can't complain about performance. The main issue is it gets hot really fast and gets considerably warm. The fan kicks in pretty fast, but the noise sometimes can be a bit too much. If you can withstand that noise and ok with the heating issues, its a great option.

I purchased this on june 4th. It's a good laptop I would say. A little bit pricey I would recommend buying when it's on sale and if not, there are other cheaper and better options. The refresh rate and performance on this laptop is good. I get a decent FPS when gaming on this at high settings for the games I play so it suffices for me. The issue I have with this laptop is that it gets hot really fast and the battery life is terrible!!!! It's intended for 6-8 hrs of battery life but I get about 1-2 hours of battery life, 3 hrs randomly sometimes. If you are gaming you must have it connected to AC power to get past 30/60 fps & not have it die on you. If you plan on playing games that is graphics intensive, I wouldn't recommend this laptop I would recommend another laptop with a 3080 or higher.

Please allow us to make your experience with ASUS a better one. Please note that running computation-heavy programs, such as graphics software, gaming software, and video playing, it will speed up the battery consumption and even some applications may continue working in the background that may occupy the resource and battery life. Truly an amazing machine. As a software engineer, I needed a lot of power in a portable package and man does this deliver. The screen is excellent, the processor is more than capable of anything I throw at it, and the GPU is the icing on the cake. I have yet to run any software that this machine cannot handle. The only downside is battery life. If on battery saver mode, I can get a good four to five hours from it, but when running intensive applications, I will be lucky not to need a plug for two hours.
Overall an amazing machine and I would highly recommend someone.

Great laptop. Purchased for music production on the go and it has been very capable. The only thing i get frustrated with is the space bar. It often doesn’t register unless pressed closer to the center of the key, and often have to go back to add spaces after typing emails or documents. Otherwise , great for audio production and gaming.

I absolutely love it. Graphics card is amazing. The fans weren't too loud. The only thing I would suggest is to find a better solution to cool down the computer especially for gamers that play for hours or even just an hour.

I purchased this device for work. I am a professor and a medical researcher. I create content videos for medical education, as well as write research papers for publication. The M16 has an excellent vivid and bright screen with an accurate color gamut for reviewing CTs and cardiac echos. The keyboard gets heavy use, and the keys are very responsive and have nice travel. Unfortunately, I do not do any serious gaming on this machine, so I cannot write to that use. However, I can say it can handle anything you throw at it productivity-wise and not even blink. I put in 32Gb RAM (total 40), and I run multiple resource-heavy programs without issue.
The fan noise has not been a problem for me. I run it in "Manual" mode with the fan speed set to 90% and power set to "balance" for 80% battery since I am almost always connected to the wall. The deck never seems to get hot, and the screen does not get hot by the intake vents. I read that was a concern, but my screen has never been more than mildly warm. One thing of concern was the top left-hand corner of the screen. When you grab the corner to open it, it creaks like it isn't glued together very well. However, I have not had any quality issues with this device (knock on wood) outside of that minor issue.

We have 2 of them in the clinic and they are good. The ONLY thing I don't like is the soft keyboard. I would prefer hard keys but they are faster then our server so I like them. We do not take them out of the building so can't rate the battery life or road worthiness.

The laptop is awesome for playing processed driven video games. The 1 big problem is the laptop gets so hot I cant even touch it. I had to buy a base with fans and another one that goes on the side to keep it somewhat cooler.

Overall if you’re a creator first and gamer second I say this laptop is a 10/10! I use to carry a MacBook Pro for content work stuff but also carried a Razer blade advance around for when I had down time and wanted to game. I was getting tired of hauling two laptops and trying to find a backpack that can carry two laptops and a tablet plus accessories. When I this released it’s like a Jack of all trades but master of none. It’s a beautiful QHD 16 display and the i9 is a beast but the 3060 is better than the one on a Mac. I can still play most games at decent frames but mainly use Maya.

Out of the box, there was a large patch of bright green stuck pixels in the middle of the screen the size of the tip of an eraser on a pencil. I gently rubbed it and used a software to unstick it. It's still there, but now it's really small. I would have immediately requested a refund or warranty service, but I seriously did not have the time for it. I probably would not purchase from best buy again, and would instead go through the manufacture. Like I said, I was pressed for time and needed the laptop. Over all, the performance is good. The fan is usually NOT quiet, though. Heats really fast. I'm mostly pleased.

I originally went to Best Buy to get the 14 inch ROG laptop that has the Ryzen 9 processor. That was sold out, and I needed a laptop so I took this one instead. Same 1TB, 16GB RAM, and 3060 that the 14 has, but a bigger display and an i9 instead of AMD. I was not expecting much from this computer, but wow, it is a beast. The i9 handles everything I have thrown at it with ease and I am able to play games at max settings. There are a few that I need to tune down a little because the resolution of this screen and small 6GB VRAM, but for the most part, all settings are maxed out.
Then there is the display, and it is absolutely beautiful. The increase in resolution makes a huge difference over 1080, everything looks super crisp. The screen also gets pretty bright, I don't know the NITs of it, but it is bright when plugged in.
I also like this laptop because I can use it at work without all the crazy gaming laptop designs that are being used in gaming laptops today. This is an understated laptop with a soft finish that makes it feel premium. Build quality wise, I am not expecting to get more than 2 years out of it though.
The moue pad is awesome on this laptop. Finally, someone took a cue from Apple and put a giant mouse pad on this laptop. I never understood why PC manufacturers kept using tiny mouse pads on their new laptop, but this one does away with that and has a huge mouse pad that is responsive and a pleasure to use.
Overall, I rate this laptop very high because it is affordable and packed with the latest and greatest tech. The i9 really does an impressive job, and my only wish is that the 3060 came with 8GB VRAM instead of 6, but you can't have everything you want I guess.

I traded in my G14 for this laptop, hoping for a noticeable upgrade with the 16:10 screen. What I got in turn was something of a mixed bag.
Build/quality - The fit and finish looks pretty decent on this, with an interesting finish on the lid and soft feel keyboard area. This does not have the build quality of an Alienware, nor does this have the build of the ThinkBook that replaced it. My unit had ports misfunctioning right out of the box. Neither of my USB-C ports worked, until I spent some time essentially uninstalling them in device manager to gain functionality. Not a good start. I later had issues with the fingerprint sensor uninstalling itself, becoming hidden in the device manager menu. The fingerprint sensor worked very poorly to begin with, but at least it was there before it disappeared within a few days. I conta cted ASUS support, who supplied me the instructions (days later) that I logically attempted myself before they'd responded. The unit later bricked itself, becoming unable to enter Windows or be factory reset.
Display - The display is stunning. High refresh, bright, and 2K resolution. There's absolutely nothing not to like here, aside from perhaps a lack of touch (but honestly, who's using that on a computer like this?)
Keyboard/inputs - the keyboard is solid on this, and the trackpad is pretty decent as well. Inputs are great (when they work), with USB-A, C, HDMI, and Ethernet...and Thunderbolt 4. No complaints here.
Sound - this is not as good as the G14 it replaced. The speakers aren't awful, but they're certainly nowhere near as full or loud as the G14 they replaced. This is somewhere slightly above average as far as I'm concerned. They'd be much better in my book if not for the obscene amount of fan noise this thing generates...
Performance/thermals - this is where this laptop suffers (aside from self-bricking tendency). With the i9, this thing gets very hot, and it quickly thermal throttles. Even with the fans kicked on full blast, I suffered from noticeable thermal throttling. I'm running a similar setup now with an AMD processor and a lower power 3060 to much better effect thanks to thermals. It's possible to undervolt this, but the machine bricked before I was able to try that out for improved thermals.
Conclusion - this is a sleek laptop with a gorgeous, but thermal performance, fan noise, and very questionable reliability make me advise against purchasing this.

Great laptop. I was in the market for a laptop with a dedicated GPU. I gave up my gaming desktop a few years back when I learned I'd be making frequent trips to Scotland. I didn't do to much gaming at the time. So I figured I'd get a good laptop and would use stadia. That worked fine for a bit. And using a laptop was decent. Come this holiday season a handful of my friends were getting back into playing. I'd canceled stadia long ago due to not really playing much. Not to mention the games we wanted to play weren't even on stadia. So I got spousal approval for a new laptop and went straight to best buy. I started with an XPS 15. The 3050ti wasn't the powerful. But I've got an XPS 13 work laptop that is awesome (Compact, powerful for it's footprint..etc). So I went that direction. Well. The problem with the XPS 15 is the hardware is fast. But if you actually expect to USE that hardware you're in for a warm surprise. Playing just about any game for more then 1-2 minutes would result in unplayable framerates as the laptop thermal and power limited. No reasonable way to fix this (I wasn't going to repaste and heatsink a brand new laptop). So the XPS 15 went back. I walked out the same day with the M16. I'd consider the M16 a step down in build quality from the XPS 15. But not as far as you might think. The M16 is built great for a "gaming" laptop. The screen is great. The hardware is fast. And best of all. It's got the cooling headroom for the hardware it was given. Even after multiple hours of gaming the system is still running at rated clock speeds.
I've had some of the blackscreen issues the others have seen since the first thing I did was a fresh install of windows 11. But those issues come and go. The other thing I wasn't super fond of is the Intel rapid storage technology. The SSD is always behind the "fakeraid" controller. Which means apps like Samsung Magician can't read/update it's firmware. (I swapped in a 1TB gen 4 Samsung 980 Pro) And I've found no way to disable it. But that's about the only Con I can think of. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase. And with the laptop on sale. I even saved a few dollars over the XPS.
